Very rough take 1 (3.7mb)
I realised doing this scene that I have no idea how to do a complete rotation.

It seems to be a bit unpredictable whether the joint goes clockwise or anti-clockwise. I did keys at 90°, but when I moved them around, they started going in the other direction.

The spline goes up for 180° then down for the next 180°.

Also, how do I make it that he rotates his body on his toe, not on his IK foot controller?

Suggestions about other bits always very welcome.
KenH
This thread should sort it out.....change it to Eular and then you can just type in the rotation about the axis.....360 is one turn....720 is two turns etc.

Sometimes the "Ball rotate controller" can be turned side-to side for small manuvers like that.

If I need to turn quite a bit or if that doesn't get quite the right pivot point, I add a null to the scene at the point where I want the axis of rotation to be. Constrain the foot controller to that null and then animate the null to turn the foot. Unconstrain from the null when you are done turning.

Ooh - Euler - constraining to nulls - maybe I am a real animator smile.gif

When I change the driver, it looks like it is for the whole choreography action - is this correct? If so, would it be better to keep the Euler part in it's own separate choreography action?

I believe changing the driver will only apply to one bone. You'll find out quickly.

Take 2

I haven't achieved much this week, EXCEPT for an Euler null, and constraining bits to it.

I'm a bit worried about the continuity - when I zoom out, nobody, but GM is in the scene. Shouldn't there be a few other people there? But I have looked at other scenes around this one, and they have the same lack of a crowd.

Take 3

Bit more work.

I did lose a whole channel - CLeftFingers - it just disappeared from one save to the next. Totally unreproducible, though.

Wow! Nice work!- challenging shot too... Scarecrow doesn't seem to be showing some anticipation for spining, like pulling his arm the opposite way of the spin and then throwing his arm out to lead the turn. He should push off with that left leg also... although there is a small push there, I almost missed it, so I went back and scrubbed through slowly. His getting up on the toes though is great for the spin and his pose during the spin is way good!
The lipsync is among the best I've seen!
KenH
That's good. I agree with Rich....on most.....the lip sync is a bit "iffy" on the "filled with grass" bit.
Tunames
I like it but he needs some overshoot after the spin to show weight. The spin it's self looks a bit slow, sorta the rotation should be faster at the beginning and slow at the end... I think.
Caroline
Thanks for all critiques.

Take 4

I would love to lay claim to the lip sync, but it was given to me like that. I am in awe of it too. I have looked closely, moved a few nulls around, and I can't improve on it. It's got some great lop-sidedness going on all the time.

I was pushing my skills doing the spin, but have tried to put a bit of anticipation into it.

The rotation is not now so even - I missed that one - faster at the beginning and slow at the end.
Tunames
That looks good Caroline. The anticipation and spin look good now add some overshoot at the end of the spin to show weight and some overlapping motion to the hands and fingers and it will look REAL good.....

Hi Caroline,

The shot does look great. I noticed though that the pose at frame 4:17 has Scarecrow turned slightly counter to the direction the anticipation is taking him creating a subtle jump. If you scrub back and forth at the frame I'm referring to you'll see what I mean.

As he initiates the turn clockwise and starts to build momentum, that one frame has him turned slightly counter clockwise in the opposite direction. If you adjust that pose to blend into the clockwise direction, it would remove that jump.

Excellent job!!!!!
