OZMA (shaking her head) Unfortunately… in affairs of the heart, I am powerless.

This is just blocking and a little rough breakdown:

I'm not sure how long she should shake her head, just during the last phrase looked good to me. What do you think?

p.s. I just realized the file is too big and re-rendered it, not much different, just hid sets & lower compressor quality:

Thanks Robert, I'm already working on that neck, will get to the wand next. Mark's and your video answers are soooo great!

An alternate performance idea

Robert, that's a great point about focusing on the wand as her symbol of power, so I'm trying to do it the way you suggested, though with the middle pose about the same as I had before. I also agree that it would look more conventional to hold the wand like you said, more like a conductor's baton; but she was holding it this way in previous scenes and the very next scene, so maybe I should leave it this way to match. I've tried to straighten out the neck and move the eye target, but at this point it's still pretty rough revised blocking:

Maybe I shouldn't have the eyes follow the wand so much in the last part? Also I'm not sure if there's too much movemnet at the end that reduces the emphasis on the wand.

Thanks

Here's some breakdown and adjustment of the above blocking. I tried to make the last main move of the right arm follow an arc, not sure if I've quite got the hang of doing that without adding too many keyframes yet, but I'll keep working on it. Now I'm going ahead with the lip-sync.

Here's a little face work in the chor prior to the lip-sync:

Is that last expression a bit much as she looks at the wand? I meant for her to look disappointed, not disgusted, but I'm not sure how to adjust it yet.

Thanks.

Okay here's the first take with the lip-sync:

and here's a close-up:

If you see any serious problems I'll try to fix it tonight. Otherwise any other criticism is welcome as well and I will take my time learning from it.

Thanks!

Nice. The lipsync is abit big in the beginning (mouth opening too wide). The from "In affairs...." her mouth shapes start to lag behind the sound.

Performance wise:

At frame 3:15 I would bend her head to point to the left of screen. This would give a nice arc in opposition to the direction she's looking and then provide a more natural flow into the last head turn.
Also, at the start, her left hand fingers are a little straight.

Thanks Ken!

Here the lip-sync is adjusted, about 3 frames back for most of it after "affairs," and the mouth a little less open:
