You see these stories in movies and on TV but you don't expect them to actually happen in real life...
One of my nephews is on the school football team. They do okay but aren't like the top team or anything like that.
One interesting element... they have a female kicker. There was some controversy over this as I recall.
During a recent game they were out on the field warming up. The visiting team was the number one team in the division (division? Regiment? what ever it's called) and were undefeated. They came out to the field and were actually MAKING FUN of the "girl" kicker. Can you imagine? Don't they watch movies? Whenever the evil, mean, over confident bullies make fun of the only girl on the opposing team you are GUARANTEED to lose and be embarrassed. Have they not seen "Bad News Bears"?
So this other team is bragging how they will win this game, can't be beat etc etc.
So anyway, end of the game. My nephew's team is behind (I don't know the score but it's within one field goal) there are 15 seconds left and... yes you can guess what happens... I guessed it as soon as I heard the other team was making fun of the girl kicker...
She kicks the winning field goal as time runs out. My sister said she actually cried when it happened it was so emotional (she cries a lot so that isn't saying much). The whole team went nuts. Can you imagine the smug self righteous joy on the field that day?!
I would try to write a screenplay but it's been done so many times... still though... it actually happened. That's pretty cool. I am sure that other team learned their lesson and have stopped making fun of girls playing sports and... uh... er... well maybe not but still a good story.
