I am responsible for the animation of this beautiful song. Martin, I thank you for trusting me in this important sequence.
I have a long journey ahead, but I know that you will help me along it. All kind of help and suggestions will be appreciated.
My animations' method is Straight Ahead then I don't intend to make poses after poses. Maybe I draw some storyboards just to organize the sequence but I will follow my feelings to animate it smile.gif
I decided to begin my assignment animating the lipsync.
Take #1 - Tin Woodman - half of the first verse ( Finally, It's true............Nimmie Amee, it's for you)
Xtaz
Take #2 - Tin Woodman - LipSync - 1st Verse complete
Finally... It's true,
Nimmie Amee, it's for you,
To share my love... With your love...
Forever...
mtpeak2
It looks pretty good to me.
Xtaz
Take # 3 - Tin Girl - 2nd Verse

My heart doesn't ache,
There is no mistake,
About my love... And your love,
Forever...

Xtaz
now, I will concentrate my efforts in the characters' animation to the 1st and 2nd verse.

Beautiful mouth shapes, Marcos!!! smile.gif
It looks like you didn't finish animating the tongue from about half way through to the end.
It looks like you missed an "L" and then left the tongue in a central position. To my eye it looks like the tongue should be lowered for the long note and maybe quivered very slightly. I am being very picky though. See what others feel.
I can see that this is going to be a very captivating piece. I love her already. smile.gif

Hi Marcos -

Yes, you do a beautiful job on the lip sync.

My feeling is that it is better to concentrate on the animating of the body first and then go back to polishing the lip sync, as so many times all that precise lip syncing just doesn't show due to camera angle, etc. Then you can focus on what really will show, and not spend effort on that which doesn't.

I have also found that it is better to leave the head motion, eye direction until animating in the chor and that it is best to just do the lips, brows in an action for the lip sync. It's easier to make specific corrections in the chor depending on camera angle and other elements in the scene.

Dhar
Beautiful stuff, Marcos.

I agree with Nancy about animating the major parts of the body first. Unless of course this is how close the shot is going to be.

Have you thought out this whole sequence yet? Is there a storyboard that you can share?

I animated the head just to add a little charm to the lip sync smile.gif
now I´m beginning to animate the body .... desires luck to me.. its a big and complex scene smile.gif

I´m working in it now, Dhar ... Thx for your comment

As I say in my first post ... All help will be useful ..

Thank you friends

continuing....
Take #4 - first test animating the body ( 1st verse TW ).
Xtaz
Take #5 - Added Tin Girl motion body in 1st verse ... a lot of smal details to fix yet ...
comments please ...

NancyGormezano
Hi Marcos - Very nice feel going on, I like how you have them interacting, they look absorbed in each other.

Not sure which details you have on your list to fix (I will assume it includes the abrupt glitches in camera, body movements, penetration of parts, etc) - so I will just give some general comments:

It's a good idea to render and do your camera work in the aspect ratio of the finished animation (720 x 405) as the framing will change from what you have. Also its easier for people to comment if you use the post effect for frame numbers.

A general comment about some of the animation is it has a floaty feel (eg feet aren't anchored, arms float into position) Not everything has to be snappier - but introducing some variation in motion helps add interest.

Tis a very sweet piece.
mtpeak2
Looking pretty good Marcos.

For the camera, put a hold interpolation on the last keyframe on the camera, before the camera move.

after a long and dark winter far away from TWO, I announce my return smile.gif
starting from today I intend to post daily updates...
here is a little update....
Take #6
Dhar
Long, dark winter? It's only been a couple of weeks since your last post dry.gif

Either way, I am happy for you're back biggrin.gif

Did you take video of yourself for
reference?
I think that may be the most help
on a shot like this.
in the big studios they give you a reference
Video and you basically just rotoscope
it.

Martin had asked me to lend a hand storyboarding and laying out this sequence. I've been having trouble emailing Marcos, so, I'll bump this thread in the hopes to reestablish communication. I like what Marcos has done here so far and I would like to continue with it. Marcos, if you're reading this, could you give me an idea of the script for what you envision in this song? It will help alot.

Thanks.
Dhar
Here's a quick storyboard that I whipped up using ArtRage2

Dhar
Does anyone know where sequence 3_05 is supposed to happen? What model environment?

3_05 uses "Deepcut_final" but we see a lot of that set. You might be better off with one of the tree sets, such as the one Nimmie Amee and Nick Chopper use in the 1_04, or the Nimmie Amee's House set (without the house). Mark Skodacek might have a better idea of what's been used?
Dhar
Sure thing Martin. I will also be using other sets for this song (tin garden, and other parts of tin castle). I needed to know where 3_05_38 happens so that I can continue from there. "Deepcut_final" it is for the first couple of scenes then.

Thanks Martin
Dhar
11 scenes are set up and ready to animate.

I need help with setting up models for 3_05_38a_sc12. The scene calls for tin garden to be set up and filled with tin flowers, tin trees, and romantic tin setting wink.gif
Dhar
All 20 scenes have now been layed out and committed under 3_05 sc38a_My_Love_Your_Love_Song folder
Tunames
Hey Dhar, Martin has asked me to help with this song scenes 7 thru 12 I have 2 questions Did you set them up for 30 fps on purpose? Which storyboards go with which scene?
Dhar
I forgot to change that setting. Please change to 24fps.
Dhar
QUOTE(Tunames @ Nov 1 2007, 11:48 AM) *

Each jpeg has a sc # that corresponds with each scene.
Tunames
I saw that after I asked.....Sent you a PM
NancyGormezano
Hi Dhar - I will be doing scenes 13-20. Is there a complete wav file or mp3 of the song available, that you could put on the svn please ? I would like to re-cut the song more precisely for my scenes.

I only see the wma - and I'm not able to convert to wav or mp3 with premiere or audacity (or any idea what software would I use?).

Tunames & I should coordinate for the music cut between 12 & 13
Dhar
.wav file has been added to Sc38a_My_Love_Your_Love_Song folder.

Please note that the ends of chors do not match the beginnings of the next chor deliberately. I did that to accomodate dissolve editting in the final version.

P.S. I open Audacity and import the wma file. But for some reason it doesn't import correctly and all you get is a short noise. So, I had to re-record the wma file with Audacity (doesn't always work on every computer because not all sound cards are compatible with Audacity) and re-export it as a wav file. I then had to open that same wav file on this computer and re-export it in order for A:M to accept it. Its a lot of hoops to go through, I know, but that's how I get it to work for me.

"I hope that helps" smile.gif

While your talking about the song. I have a question for example one wav filke is 266 frames long in the timeline it looks like it is 266 frames long but the song cuts off at frame 196 or so. Therefore my question is where do I end my animation? 266 or 196? also I don't know if it's 14c or what but if I click the PLAY button in the frame controls and stop it part way thru then start again the song starts from the beginning and the animation starts on that frame instead of in the middle or wherever I stopped. Is that clear as mud?

PS I started all my chors on frame 100

I am going to start on 0 - there is no reason anymore to start on 100. It will be easier to animate & sync up to the music.

I am also going to precisely cut the music (for my stuff - so that it is clear to me what to animate). I think it will be easier to forget about dissolve editing. My guess is the goal is to get this done asap. Would you like me to cut yours as well?

As for the replaying of the music - I'm not familiar with 14c sound playing behavior - but in 13s rarely, occasionally the music would get out of sync if stopped within a particular frame range - but it always seemed to resync on the next play go-round.
Tunames
Nancy if you wanna cut'em all be my guest, just don't run with the sissors anymore......and yes it resyncs it only does it if I start and stop by clicking on the play button. Maybe thats fixed in 15 with the NLE:)
NancyGormezano
ok I will re-cut yours (don't know who is doing the chors before yours).

And I take it back - when I was using 14c - it seemed to play the sound from the beginning of the frame range that I currently had selected - I don't remember anything funny going on - but I'm probably not understanding what the problem is that you're describing. I might not have been stopping it mid frame range, as I usually work with small frame ranges at a time, and tend to let it play out.
NancyGormezano
Ok - I've recut the wav file and put the new EXACT (hopefully) cuts into each folder - and they are called something like:

Sc1 0000-0339 blahblahblah.wav
Sc2 0339-0635 etc.wav
.
.
Sc20 4282-4487 moreblahblah.wav

The four digit numbers represent the frame numbers of that scene within the love song. But you start on frame 0 within the chor. The blahblahblah is the lyrics.

Use 'em or not. I didn't replace them in each chor - so you'll have to do that.

We can always add animation at the end of a chor (after we finish) to accomodate any dissolve editing we might want to do.

So the division of labor looks like: Someone has frames 0-1484 (scenes 1-6), Tunames has frames 1484-2739 (scenes 7-12), and I have frames 2739-4487 (scenes 13-20)

Start your engines. Nah. I think I'll go to sleep.

Meanwhile I found a program on cnet.com called power mp3 wma converter (cost $30) - but there are free ones there as well (do a search on the cnet site for wma converter or something like that)
Dhar
The start on frame 100 has been scrapped a couple of months ago with the introduction of pre-roll into the timeline. All of the scenes start at 0.

If you're not sure about the length of the scene, check the chor. length in the pws.
Tunames
Thanks for doing that Nancy. I missed the start on 0 instructions somehow, The chor length didn't match the wav length so I'll stick to with Nancys cuts may let them run over a few frames........

On my computer, the chor length doesn't always show what it's supposed to show. It gets stuck on some random number regardless of what the chor length is supposed to be. A more reliable method is often to check the camera's render range.
Dhar
You're right Holmes, I found that out today on a scene I'm cleaning up. That needs to get fixed.

We finally finished the class "Principle and Basic Animations".
Now my student is able to proceed with his scenes .. He will animate scene 01 - 06... rigth now he's working on scene 01..
updates in monday ....

I'm really sorry about the delay but just now we have conditions to continue...

I'm glad to be back.....

Just so we're all on the same page. The song has been shortened recently.

Here is the new lyrics/scene assignment breakdown. The range numbers xxxx-yyyy following the scene number are the frame numbers from the old song before being shortened.

Scenes remaining:

Xtaz is doing scenes 3 & 4
Tunames is doing 5 & 12
I am doing 17 & 18

The audio in the scene folders on the svn should be used rather than the description under the task on the dot project at this point.

Tunames, Xtaz: please see previous post for current song breakdown

There is a mismatch in the dot project descriptions for the scenes - go with the audio that is in the svn folders for the scene instead.

(That is of course until Martin sez I'm crazy)
martin
I have made the changes Nancy suggested to dotProject.

If it fits and you like it - use it - otherwise get creative. Think lovey-dovey fantasy. The storyboards got out of sync with the chors and the recutting of the song.

The story boards are generic enough looking, so shouldn't be much of a problem to embellish.

My guess is we can coordinate the set elements later, and do some transitioning (with the sky dome from day to night and then back to day for easing back into the story).

yesterday I received the assignment for scene 01/03/04 .. I would like to know about scene 02 ...
about scene 05 - TUNAMES did you already animate it ?? - would be more logical I animate it... wouldn´t ?

thanks
Tunames
"would be more logical I animate it... wouldn´t ?"

Using that logic you'd have to animate the whole thing! But I haven't done much on it yet, You'll have to ask Martin about reassigning it....

You didn't need to be rude in your answer. I caught this assignment before setting up my animation class. The plans changed and I decided that my student would be the responsible for it. Animation is not learned from one day to the next.

Hi Marcos

A lot has happened since you've been gone - a lot has happened in just the last week. I hope you read the previous posts. This may be part of the confusion.

After reviewing this thread from the beginning, I notice that you did do something with the lyrics from scenes 3-5. You still need to work this out with Martin as to assignment. If you can't get 3-5 cleaned up, or at least uploaded to the svn, because of your work load then we need someone else to do it.

AND we need it in 720 x 405 at 24 fps. If it wasn't uploaded to the svn then no one would know if it's done.

This movie has a schedule. So it's my guess that a new student's work at this point would not be done in time to be included. Nothing is stopping them from using this song as a learning tool however.

Please refer to the new song breakdown (above) that we are using at this point.
Tunames
Rudeness not intentional.....
Xtaz
thanks for your reply Nancy. We are using SVN´s songs for each scene.
