yeah, and its not just textures.. although they are worth their weight in gold. Check out the tutorials, 2 of which should be taught in CG 101. Especially you Matt.. The one on Normal maps is incredible.

I hadn't seen the tutorials before you mentioned it, and the normal map creation was quite intuitive. I tested it out, and I think I did a pretty good job for my first attempt at it.

It would be really awesome to have parrelex mapping in A:M because these normal maps can provide even more data than standard greyscale images for height maps. Though the Displacement mapping is still badass.

If you've been paying attention to Satyajit's "Red Riding Hood" project you know a little bit about Celtx. He's got a mini-tut on its use on his blog.

Vern has used it, liked it a lot and plugged it here in the forum too.

I tested a version on on of my daughters 'Mermaid' stories.

Earlier today I was informed that they've released a new version.
...and its still free!

According to their write up:
Celtx is the world's first fully integrated software for pre-production and collaboration of film, theatre, radio and AV. It has all the tools media creators need to
QUOTE
bring their stories to life – combining intelligent writing and planning tools, storyboarding, and scheduling with internet-friendly technologies. Open source and free to download, Celtx is the most complete media pre-production software program available anywhere, at any cost. Over 100,000 independent media creators in 160 countries create with Celtx.

Celtx 0.995 Release Notes - September 13, 2007
For more detailed release notes, look here.
New Editors Audio Plays
A new Audio play editor has been added that can be used to create standardized radio scripts or podcasts.

AV (Dual Column)
A new dual column-AV editor supports documentary filmmaking, the creation of music videos and the making of general AV projects. AV Scripts are semi-formatted in the editor, and then converted in to the Dual Column format by the TypeSet feature.

Improved Editors
Text Editor
We have added new features for controlling the fonts and layout.
  • Font face, size and colour
  • Numbered Lists
  • Bulleted Lists
  • Indenting
  • Document width (A4, North American)
  • Zooming
Screenplay Editor
  • A Dual Dialogue feature has been added that works in conjunction with the TypeSet feature.
Highlite two Characters and their respective Dialog elements (only two at a time but you can do multiple selections to create stacked Dual Dialogs) that you want to display as DD and click on the DD icon in the tool bar (next to the 'Note' button). An icon will show up in the editor next to the DD. Running the TypeSet will then provide the DD layout for local printing or generating a PDF.
  • New Zoom options in the editor
  • Right Click Contextual Formatting
  • New Keyboard short cuts
  • Alt-S will short cut to the Script Menu
  • Ctrl (arrow up or arrow down) will navigate scene by scene
Index Cards
Each Editor has an Index Card sub-tab. These Index Cards are tied to the Scenes in the Editor so that changes made to either the Index Card or the Script will sync with the other. Some other Index Card features...
  • Front of the Index Card
The front of each Index Card will auto-populate with the first 40 words in the Scene (this is not editable in the Index Card). The Scene Header will also auto-populate with is editable (and automatically reflected in the script).
  • Back of the Card
The Index Cards can be 'flipped'. You can then add notes to the back of each card.
  • Drag & Drop
The Index Cards can be dragged and dropped by grabbing an Index Card directly or by moving the cards in the Navigator.
  • Plot Line Colours
You can colour code each Index Card. Your colouring scheme will get reflected both in the Index Card and Scene Navigators.
  • Printing
The Index Cards have their own Print dialog, providing options for layout and printing with or without colours.
  • Zooming
Mutiple Zoom settings have been added to make it easier to see and manage the Index cards.
Storyboard Improvements
Creatives can now add images to sequences in batches, as well as play selected sequences in the Viewer.

Typeset Feature
Perhaps the most innovative feature to be added to 995 is the LaTex enabled TypeSet.

LaTex is a powerful typesetting tool that provides superior formatting controls. We've taken the complexity out of using LaTex by having the Celtx Server do all the formatting for you. Lots of formatting options are provided (eg. Mores/Continueds, Scene Numbering, Paper size etc.)

You no longer have to sign in to use Typeset and create a PDF and we've added https encryption for private and secure data transmission.

Drag & Drop Document Management
You can now drag and drop documents from one project in to another. Select a document in your Project Library (eg. a prop form) and drag it in to the Library for another Project.

Dot Celtx files
Our clever developers have figured out a way to make a Celtx Project Folder behave like a file. Celtx Projects will now 'Save As...' a *.celtx file extension. The new *.celtx file is actually a zipped folder with a special wrapper to make it look like and behave like a standard computer file. Double clicking on the *.celtx file will launch Celtx. You can still unzip the dot Celtx file using any standard unzip application to gain access to individual Project documents.

New Splash Screen
We have upgraded the Celtx Splash Screen to provide direct access to popular templates (eg. Films, Documentaries, Stageplays, Radioplays etc.)

Copy Project Item
You can make a copy of any Project item (right-click)

Project Templates
You can make your own Project template (under 'File...'). New Project Templates will appear in the New Splash Page.

Save Options Settings
You can now set the auto save feature to "Automatically Save Project" every 5, 10, 15, 1/2 hr, 1 hr.

Shot Word Options
The Script Options include the ability to add your own shot words

Server Side Development Status Bar User Sign In /Out
A Status bar has been added to let you know if you're logged in to the Celtx Server.

Event Notifications
If you're logged in, the Status Bar will notify you any time someone has updated a shared Project or added a comment to one of your Projects on Project Central.

Web Services
We added a new versioning system (Snapshots) and new options for tagging your Project for genre, language (as in English, French, Italian etc.) and to request reviews. A new Inbox Tab in the Web Services provides a history of any notification messages.

Project Central Development Project Central Re-design
We gave Project Central a kick in the pants, re-designing the whole layout and added new features. Search has been improved as well and the new tags (eg. genre, language, review requests) will appear on PC.

Whether your preferred platform is Mac, PC or Linux you'll want to at least check this out.

Matt! Old Buddy, Old Pal... :-)

tMapping.jpg the second to last image is EXACTLY the effect I've been trying to get for the iron asteroids in my project. Can you tell me how you did it!!!!?????? I will look at the tuts... sigh... when I have time. Right now I'm overwhelmed with stuff that needs to be done yesterday -- like clean the ash out of my 10 PCs (lots of toys are fun until the maintenance side of things come around!) not to mention the ash in every knook and cranny in the house and yard and never mind working on my animation project (woe is me!). However, for some reason the smoke made both my wife and I sick and I can hardly move -- especially bend over -- without getting sick to my stomach (that's my sob story and I'm sticking to it!).

Thanks!
Rusty

I referred to Wink elsewhere today in the forum so thought I should add it here too. There are several nice resources at debugmode for the PC but (for me) Wink is the most useful.

Wink (Screen Capture)
Use it to make tutorials, presentations, demonstrations, etc.
http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

PROS:
Saves .HTML, PDF, SWF, BMP and JPG.
v2 now records sound
v2 now can link to external files/URLs
CONS: No Compression in SWF files.

Highly Recommended.

The other programs:

WinMorph (Morphing Images)
http://www.debugmode.com/winmorph/

Morphing images is fun and sometimes even useful.
Haven't tested it but... WinMorph works with WAX.

WAX (Video Editor)
There are other programs more versatile than this so only download if you have the extra time/need. Jahshaka (www.jashaka.org) would serve most people better. WAX does have plugins that let you use it with other Video Editors.

Wood Workshop!

this is the absolute best program for making wood textures, you can export them in several qualities all tillable.

LOVE IT!

i've used it for a while and just now thought to add it, its used to make the floor, table, picture frame, and the thing above the blinds in this scene of mine.
