Here is my first exercise. I am not happy with it, and will work on it some more. I guess you could call this The Flubber Ball.
Rodney
You done messed up now. You gone and joined Bootcamp!
Say goodbye to your crayons 'cause you are gonna be an animator yet! wink.gif

A very appropriate name I think.
A interesting enough effect. I hope you took notes in case you ever need to use that again someplace.

Lets see what you've got.
Bounce him again Tanman!

(BTW- Welcome to Bootcamp)
thetanman
Here is did another exercise swinging a pendulum on a clock! This animation had about 5mb i don't know why so i had to zip it.

AhHa!... your sn is "the" tanman! I've been thinking it was a scientology thing... thetanman!

One inviolable rule of bouncing ball... the ball musn't slowly squash on the way down. It squashes only after it has whacked into the ground. That's because smacking into the ground is what makes it squash. There's nothing in the ball to make it squash on it's own.

There are other inviolable rules of bouncing ball, but that's a biggie. wink.gif

Thats a really nice, smooth pendulum action.
Try playing with the timing to make different effects. You could try delaying the action at the ends of each swing so the weight seems to "hang"(slow in), and making the swing motion slightly faster(slow out). Using the bias handles of the graph makes this so easy. Or you could do the opposite and have the swing faster on each side.

Mark,
I'll point to what Chris said as he is spot on.
The pendulum is a very basic exercise but you can squeeze a lot of great stuff out of it.
If you are familiar with a metronome then you'll understand what I'm saying but old clocks work well too. (They have some interesting differences)

The pendulum is an opportunity to explore the world of timing by hitting/creating the beats.
Tic Tock Tock versus Tic Tic Tic tells quite a different story.
As Richard Williams might say, "It's all in the timing... and the spacing."*

Keep at it. I think working quickly through these exercises is one of the keys to success.
Where anybody doesn't get feedback see that as an opportunity to move on.
We can always go back and run through the exercises again.

Get to it... Tic Tock Tic! smile.gif

where can i get a good ticktock sound because the one in the libraries isn't good at all
thetanman
Here is a door opening and then slamming. I added sound to it, but when it slams the sound doesn't play?? I don't know why, but here it is anyways.
thetanman
in order to keep doing these exercises, how can I dowload the models like the ball with the tail and the ikejoe??? i don't want to have to model and rig these myself. plus i am not a very good rigger at the moment!
thetanman
I am really liking this bootcamp! Here I having a ball squishing, and making a splat sound!

Do you have a microphone?
If you do... try this: Cluck your tongue while making sounds like *Tk* and *Tauk*. wink.gif

I'm just kidding with you but quite serious too.
As someone never said (so I'll say it for them), "When in Rome... Don't be afraid to create your own tools!"

I haven't had a chance to view your latest but I will as soon as I can.
I'm sure others will attack you soon too. wink.gif

Edit: Took a quick look. I'll comment on your ball splat.

Points to ponder:
1) Maintain the volume of the ball even during squash and stretch or it will appear to inflate/deflate.
2) When ball splatting we would expect the ball to end in the full squash and not bounce back into shape. So perhaps you could have it end its life as a pancake?
3) Squash cannot happen until contact is made

Keep it up and keep up the pace! smile.gif

But it still has the same wrongly timed squash that the bouncing ball did... Getting the squash right isn't optional in ball animations; it's one of the main reasons you do ball animations.
thetanman
i know! i am just getting familiar with it. i didn't even know how to stretch something until yesterday!
thetanman
rodney how do you put lights in an object?

You heard the man!
Bad squash... not optional.
Now what are you going to do about it?

This is Bootcamp Mr. Tanner. Show him what you've got!

For these exercises... you don't. wink.gif
