Hi everyone,
I have final got A:M paint and am finding it really cool to use.
I just have 1 little questions.
Can you start colouring with the paint brush tool without adding decals to your model. Because it won't let me.
Elliot
P.S I will post some of my creations using A:M paint later on. When i get more experienced with the program.

You need to have UV mapped the model (ie applied a decal). However, you could use the auto tiles which do it automatically in Paint. This won't give you results you can edit in a paint program though.

I am making a space ship and have only decaled the wings in A:M; so therefore I can only change the colour of the wings.
I want to just leave the rest white but I want to colour the white in using A:M paint.
Is this possible?

As I say, you can only colour in (in AM paint) the areas of the models that have been decaled in AM. I don't believe you can mix auto tiles and decals.

That's bad.
So does that mean i will have to decal the other bits of the model in white?
What is the best way to get around this?

If you just want them white, you could colour it in the group properties. Otherwise, you'd have to decal/uv map the whole model.

No....except for auto tiles which is sort of decaling. I advise you to read the manual from digital cover to digital cover if you haven't already done so.

I found Dhar's quick tutorial most helpful:
http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23896Then I printed and read the manual several times.
You made a great choice

Hi Elliot,
The decal button is grayed when you launch A:M paint as a standalone application instead of launching it from within Animation:Master (by right-clicking inside a model window). The reason for this is that A:M paint needs the link with A:M to add the new decal to your model file. This is described in the chapter 'Automatic Decal Mapping' of the manual. Once your model has a decal, you can paint it either by launching A:M paint from within A:M or by launching it separately.
Best regards,
Filip

Thank you.
Maybe you should have a Video tutorial page on your website so we can learn all the features that A:M paint offers.

Hi Elliot,
The memory use depends on the number of patches of your model and the subdivision rate you use (PAGEUP/PAGEDOWN). You probably pressed PAGEUP a few times on a model with a lot of patches. If that's not the case, you can send the model to me and I'll have look.
Best regards,
Filip

I think Filip meant to say PAGE DOWN to reduce the display quality and free some memory.

Within A:M Painter, you can right-click on the decal-image used and make it transparant, then the basic-ship-surfacecolor remains and you are free to paint the wings; 'Only what you paint, gets coloured'.
ps.
Making it transparant and saving it, will overwrite 'the older-decal-image'.
