Here are links to the v14.0 Alpha 5 Installer.
Windows: OSX (Universal Binary): Fixes since the last release:
- 0002001: [Interface] Bones weirdly draggable in PWS Chor (robcat2075)
- 0002734: [_Other] when you past a link into the chat window it makes the text input box a link to my desktop (barney)
- 0004164: [Materials] Crash when loading v11.1 hair materials. Affects Sir_Nigel.mdl (Glen Clarkson)
- 0004162: [Constraints] TranslateTo ON->OFF make a bone jump. (jenpy)
- 0004131: [Modeling] activating model bone in model window causes crash (Jack West)
Make sure when you report bugs to A:M Reports, and that you pick the v14 project in the upper right.

Yves mentioned that he had committed his SSS fixes the other day. Did they make it into this build?

Yes. My changes to SSS made it into that build.
- Extinction distances can now go very short.
- 5 point patches are processed correctly.
- A model can now have more than one SSS group and each group can have different SSS settings.
I noticed, recently, an issue with hair and SSS. It looks like hair on an SSS surface does not process shadow correctly. I need to investigate that. Otherwise, test it at will and report bugs on A:M report.

Thanks to all at Hash Inc for the new alpha!:)
I'm looking forward to some more SSS testing soon.

Erm, does the latest alpha version support dual core processors on the OSX platform yet? I haven't upgraded just yet since I am mid project so I cannot test.
Has the real-time speed in bones mode been improved too? When I met Ken Baer at the Mac Expo he said that Hash where working on it. I would be delightful if this improvement has been made.

I'm curious about that, too.
I tried activating it on my copy and it caused it to crash. I ended up having to trash my preferences to get it to open again.
I've got a Core2Duo iMac and clicked the "Auto" button (which changed the number of threads from 1 to 2). Then I tried to render and the application quit (exactly at the moment I hit the render to file button). I repeated the attempt a couple of times with the same result and then decided to quit the application first to save the change to my preferences. When I did that, and restarted the application, it would quit as soon as it opened.
Tossing the preference file fixed the crashing.

Um, not sure if this is a bug, or what, or if this is the right place to report it, but as I was trying to install the squetch rig on my character, all bones were visible. Whenever you hid a 'visible' bone, it would remain visible, but be unselectable in the model workspace (not in the PWS). While this isn't too bad, it makes finding and moving small bones covered by large bones really... Annoying.

There have been a few other bugs I've run into. If this is the right place to dump them, I'll be back.

I just tried it too - you are right.
I think they have accidentally put up the NetHasp version instead of the Net2007 workstation dongle version. It is trying to find the dongle at a remote service TCPNETHASPSRV on port 475. The NET2006 version never did this.
I will put a report in.

hm, I'll take a look in the morning. The net2007 installer should check the local hasp first, then check for a nethasp.

Will,
Any word on this yet? Failing this, I didn't download the last Alpha -- is that still available? I can't get flocks to work in 13<latest> and want to try it in v14. I could not get it to work in the old Alpha version I had before.
Thanks!

Rusty:
Rickh, is testing for me, but I think you may have receieved an invalid 2007 update code for the hasp. If you want to send me your remote hasp id can generate a new update code.

Will,
Its been working so far but sure I'll send it. Can you tell me if the Rus program from V90 is the latest and if not where I can find it?
Also I have something 'new' installed on my pc and have used it; SpeedUpMyPC. Since I 'optimized' a couple of strange things have occured with AM: in version 13r flocks do not work (and john3d just used them without problems) and the default 3-light chor has changed to a chor with one bulb light; and this thing with my hasp and V14.
Richard HArrowell "I just tried it too - you are right."
Does Richard have this program (or Max Registry Cleaner)?
As soon as I know if I'm using the right version of Rus I'll send the code in a pm.
Thanks for helping!

Rusty,
Will gave me a new 2007 Dongle upgrade code, and the dongle version of V14 Alpha 5 now works perfectly.
I would imagine that your old rusinstall will work, but the latest version is at

I added a SSS report to AM:Reports. Multiple instances of models with SSS rendering inconsistantly in the chor.

Don't know if this has been reported before...
I have a model from v13 that is built as a action with multiple action objects as parts of it. In v14a5 the bones for the objects show up in the action window and choreography but not the objects themselves. Does the same behavior on the PC under Xp as on the Mac. Should this be reported to AMReports? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Action objects not showing up is a known bug in this alpha release. Stay tunned for the next one.
