Particles The Video Once again due to the large file size (124mb) with will be best to "save target as"
NancyGormezano
Another great useful idea to transcribe the tech talks. Muy Bueno!

Was the video for this Tech Talk ever made and released? I don't remember it and it isn't listed in the Tech Talk thread on the forums.

Edit: I noticed the URL for the video at the beginning of the pdf document. I clicked on the link and got short clip of the beginning of the tech-talk. Is there a more complete version available? Perhaps for download?

OK, I see what you are talking about. I guess i saved the wrong version of the file to the server. I will have to re-render the file i will post here when that is up. The original file was over 500mb.
Fishman
Has the video been rerendered and available for posting?

Thanks,
Scott

Sorry for the delay getting that video up. I had a goal of getting the Download size to less then 100mb but I could not make that happen.
Fishman
Jason,
I'm OK with big file sizes (and I seem to be the only one to be bugging you). Perhaps you can chop it into multiple pieces for others.

Thank you, Jason, for re-posting the movie.

Scott - I would have bugged, but you got there first. biggrin.gif

Thanks, Jason!

At this time I have no plans to go back and redo the tech talks that are already done. This is do to the amount of time it would take with my video editing skills. The program we use to make them over the years has gained a lot more output options making smaller more manageable files for online use. When we start making new tech talks we will be using the new formats and that will really help the download size.

Does the download not work or the video not play?

You must download and install the Ensharpen codec to view the video tutorials/tech talks.
Keep in mind that at 128MB this file is going to take awhile to download.

Thank you, Mr. Simonds. I was struggling with particles; I wanted to create a fairly realistic metallic spark using a Streak Emitter, for when blades clash in a sword fight (attached mov) The blades clash at the end. It's kind of subtle, but that's how I prefer it. You should've seen the miniature explosions that I had before!
Anyway, your Tech Talk showed me which setting I needed to adjust. The Viscosity had to be cranked up to 100%. That makes the streaks flash out in the correct way.

Sincerely,

Carl Raillard

Here's a 10 page tutorial just on streak particles. It covers rain, snow, and a fountain using streak particles and comes with a project file with finished examples of each effect.

Here's a tutorial on Blobbies. It was written for version 14 (2007). Most of it will work if you are using v12 or v13 , but v14 does behave a little different so your results may vary.

I wold be really grateful if someone would proofread it!

TERRIFIC documents - these and all the other tech talk documents you've just posted .

I need a bit more help w/ Sprite Particles and I haven't found any info on this yet. Currently, I'm using V13 Mac (I have V14 Mac, but it's not very stable - haven't upgraded to 15 yet).

Anyway, I can't seem to turn it on and off. The sprite particles are just always on! How can I make it so they start and stop?

What I'm trying to do is a smoke cloud that erupts and dissipates as a large object hits the ground. Is there a way to turn off the particles once they've started? I'd just like them to emit for about 10 to 15 frames, then slowly fade away. I can do the fade part. I just can't stop them from emitting.

thanks for all your help.
