I need to use a boolean, but I don't know how. I've done some searching and people talk about the boolean cutter. What is it and where? Would like to know please!

I haven't used booleans, so I don't know much about them, but there is this tutorial from Vernon Zehr:

http://www.lowrestv.com/lowres/tutorials/b...s/booleans.html

And a tutorial on how to make holes without using booleans:

And a really cool use of booleans from johnl3d:

I think the basics of booleans is that you make your model, you make a separate closed shape, for example a cube, you go into bones mode, add a bone to the cube and assign the cube's control points to the bone, then change the bone's boolean property to on. Any intersecting areas on the model will take on the surface color etc of the cube.

Here is an apple model which you can have your character take a bite from by noving the boolean into the apple. I set up an action in the project as an example.

Hope this helps...

This is what I want to happen. I want the cross to be cut out of the circle. The cross goes where the arrow is pointing. That's the area I want cut.

Never mind, i found a way.

Create 2 bones in the model.

Associate Bone one with the cross and make sure you designate it to be a boolean cutter.

Associate Bone two with that other object and make sure it is not set to be a boolean cutter.

It will only be visible when you render, and don't place anything in front of the camera with transparency or it will negate the boolean effect.

Just to let you know:
A:M Booleans dont effect the geometry itself but only the renderoutput.
So taht could be the thing which isnt so self-explaining...
That means: You wont see what has happened to the geometry in realtime-views.

The good thing about that: You can very easily animate the boolean and you wont ever have a problem with corrupt booleans. The not so good thing about it is, that you cant easily model with them after you used it.

Geoemtric booleans would be very difficult to program with splines, so we only got this way... I dont miss the other so...
However: A start is the CutPlane-Plugin from Steffen Gross... have a look at his Plugin on www.sgross.com
