Hello,

I have a problem with Newton Dynamics. sad.gif I was wondering, that should I have a display, that does "configure the plugin", to set up time? I am not sure if I understand. I was trying to make chains to look alive but when I start to runs the newton dynamic. The rings that formed into chains were falling in and went different directions. When I was looking around to find the answers in here (forum) and I noticed there was a picture that showed of "configure the plugin" in the tutorial. I noticed that I did not have a display of "configure the plugin". dry.gif

Hi. I don't have the problems you have with the Newton dynamics but the problem we both have is nobody seems to want to know. I have downloaded most of the Newton dynamics projects and all the ones with the Sim_prj name work. I don't know what version of AM your running but I am running version 12 and I have the plugin installed. without the plugin the simulation will work too. But if you need to set up The simulation you need the plugin. I would be grateful if you could point me in the direction of the picture showing the configure the plugin. That way I know what you problem might be. My problem is I cant find any simple tutorial explaining how The ready made projects were set up as all the properties in the Newton plugin are still in there default position. so the whole thing don't make much sense. I think one has to bake the choreography before running. But the guy that made the plugin has very bad English and it seems the guys @ AM don't want to makes his instructions easy to read. Instead you might wait years software writes to write there instructions in plain English.

Well, I've grumbled a bit about the language thing, but once you realize that the author's first language clearly isn't English, and once you've made the proper mental substitutions for the wrong pronouns and bad spelling, you'll realize that the documentation is quite complete and correct. On the other hand, if English is your first language, you really don't want me editing your post, especially that last sentence.

That said, I'll now point out that it shouldn't take the webmaster for the Hash website more than 10-15 minutes to correct the most egregious errors on the Newton documentation. And maybe a kindly worded note to the programmer about mis-spellings in the text shown in the properties would be a good idea.

My only problem I've had with Newton is how "small" objects are handled. I'm not sure where to report problems on this. Is this something to submit to Hash reports? Or do I go elsewhere?

We can make this available to you to make corrections to, and I'm sure Steffen would appreciate a "thanks" from a satisfied customer.

You might want to try the website of the people who actually write the Newton engine. Steffen only wrote the plug-in that integrates A:M with Newton.

Actually, I like it a lot and I wish I had put it to use with some previous projects. I had somewhat laboriously animated some large blocks being dumped out of a larger box onto a table. I won't do that again. smile.gif

And, yes, I might like to do the fixes. Maybe next week. Going through something like that cements the information in your head.

Grrrr this is where I get mad and helpful. From reading the documenting I noted Mr Gross advices not to use small objects. However he does have another plug-in I see that allows for that. I guess I am getting mad cause I thought by now I would have a simple ( not plane) answer to kick starting the set up for simulation with the Newton plug-in. Right now I can't for the like of me find the newtons plugin's page.
English is not my mother language ( thankfully) English is not the best language to learn anything.

I am sorry my last message only had the quote. The forum went down as I was posting the message.

Have you tried to set "Scale world" to On (Choreographie->Plugin Properties) .
If this doesn't solve your problem, submit a report at A:M Reports in the Plugins category .

I don't' need to send report as I know there is a plug-in for working with small models. I only wish I could get johns demo to work or find out how the throm project was set up

Hello, smile.gif

okay, here's the program files that I can show you what I mean.

I have PC and using winxp and version 13t.

The first one is dymanic constraint.

The second one is newton plugins.

These are the examples that I am having a hard time to make it works.
I am trying to get the chains rub on his belly while Thom is walking.

Any other ideas or able to solve this problems, anyone? dry.gif

How about uploading a clip to see what you mean. Don't for get there is more to animation than just making the program do effects. You do not have to show all the chains rub on Thom. You can get away with something in movie making by suggestion. Plus AM has tons of effects you can use to mask or suggest effects. Most clever effects are only shown for a few seconds. That way the brain does not have a chance to figure out it is being tricked.

Hello Gals and Guys, smile.gif

I send this problem to the report and guess what... (I made a copy from report.)

There is a bug in the plugin , they is solved in the next version .
But he was not the main problem .
Some things needs to be changed
- purple thom must be a "Static with Action" , because a action is applied to him, in this case a "Dynamic Object" won't work in the expectet way
the model needs also "Newton_" groups
- set "Scale world" to On in the chor properties for the plugin, because the segments for the chain are very small
- to avoid penetrations (because the action begin fast , there is no time for the chains to get in their beginning state) set the project fps to a high value for simulating (fps*10 is a good value), after simulation you can set it back to the original , be sure that you set also "Reduce keyframes" to On , otherwise you get too much keyframes , they are not needed

Regards
Steffen

Soooo there's a bug!!!!!!!!! blink.gif

Also there is a hint that might help us. cool.gif

Thanks Steffen and you, too, yardie...

Thanks to you too Hollynorthup for sending the bug report. I am amazed to see the author has answered. It would be nice if he could give a step by step tutorial on how he set up the past projects he made. As they worked on old versions of AM the can't be a need to update to get them to work.
