I will be texturing Woot's Mom. I have decided that I will be trying to use just decals on her and no materials. It's going to stretch my skills, but if I come up with a good way of doing it I will redo the Farmhands' textures with decals instead of mats.
I will re-download the Woot's Mom folder from the SVN to make sure i have the newest version and then start my flattening sometime today. Tonight is LOST night, so I probably wont get too much done

Awesome show! I'm in the same boat, Wed. nights revolve around LOST. But this time I'm going to try and remember to login to A:M Community for the rigging talk after. If I start blabbing new theories about the Others, someone kick me.

Started working on the decal groups for Woot's Mom. I have all the skin one's done. Since I am going to try to decal most everything I still have to do Decal Groups for the clothing.
I have added some basic coloring to the model to get an idea of where I will go with the texturing. Please take a look and let me know what you think of the basic coloring. For skin and hair texturing I will be using Nancy's excelletn Woot texture's as a jumping off point. (Pic Below)
That reminds me; I will not be doing the final hair of Woot's mom. Anyone with skill enough should pick that up after I am done texturing -- Along with the Farmhands

Reminds me of the grandma on 321 Penguins though you never see her face;)

Well, I got a virus on my PC late last night and I don't have any protection. It took me most of the day to get it all fixed and now I have to reload all my crap so I didn't get anything done today. Should have something tomorrow though.

There are a couple free antivirus programs available...I use the personal edition of
AntiVir. Hope that helps, Jeff.

Thanks

. I noticed in the Rigging Forum that there is a problem with Woot's Mom. You are going to wait unitl after I am done texturing to fix it right? Just want to make sure I don't overwrite anything new in the rigging.

Update:With this character I decided to do all my flattening right away before I even get to the texturing. I figure I'll get the most boring, mind-numbing part done first, then move on to the fun

.
I'm having a little problem with the flattening action for the apron. I don't really know how I will do it yet. I will still be using Darktree for the boots, but everything else will be a Decal.

Update:
I have finished aplying all my template decals to all the areas that I will be texturing with decals. With the apron I have decided to go with decaling the front, applying patch images to the back and the bow, and leaving the adges with just basic color and some Roughness to simulate cloth there.

Sorry I didn't see this one earlier, Jeff. The rigging on Woot's Mom is just the thumbs...if I'm not mistaken. It will either be me or Mark Skodacek that corrects the problem, but we can hold off. At the moment, I'm kind of buried with things to do...I'm working my way out of it, but it will be at least a few days.

I didn't really know what to do with the dress, so I decided to go with a simple, yet slightly whimsical look.

Hmm, I'm not too sure about the pattern on the dress, maybe if the dress was a different color. There's been alot of green (it is green, right?) on the models so far, (Woot, Tinwoodman, fat farm hand, green monkey, tin servant (some green) anyone else I missed) maybe yellow or pink.

she's really cute - you could use the same pink color as the rose embroidery for her dress

I wish I had more people commenting that just the two of you, but it seems that your comments are exactly right. I wasn't really happy with the color of that dress. I think I'll try that rose color, Nancy

.
Thanks again, you guys -- um -- guy and girl.

Try giving her Goth type make up, add some whips, tattoos, black fishnet stockings - and I'll bet you get some more comments.
You're doing an excellent job.

Haha. By the way Nancy, you are a color genius!
Here she is with the rose colored dress. I'm going to move onto the skin for now. I will probably go back and see if I can get some kinda of pattern for her dress, but I think it look great with the plain color.

Update:I have worked on the face textures. They are based on Nancy's excellent Woot Textures. I actually used Nancy's freckles to creat a brush -- hope you don't mind Nancy

.
I used a very light pores map. The only wrinkles are on the lips. I am debating giving her some wrinkles, but I really like the "clean" look.
Please, let me know if you think I should add wrinkles or not.
Thanks for looking.

Coming along nicely Jeff. I say go for some crows feet around her eyes...

I'm flattered.
You do really nice work.
I would say try the crows feet - see if you like it - I'm not sure how close the camera gets to her - but for your own curiousity - go for it.
I too like her clean look. Since Woot's not all that old, she's probably not all that old either.
It might be interesting if she ended up with the same hair color material as Woot. It would tie them together.
(Don't let that scare you, I don't have any plans.)

Nancy, I don't know who's doing the hair, but i pictured it a slightly "duller" shade of the same color as Woot's. Because she is older her hair shouldn't be as vibrant.
I'll try some wrinkles, but I think the clean look will win in the end, haha.

Nov 20 2006, 11:22 PM
I tried her with wrinkles and she definately looks better without them, so I left them off.
I am calling her done. I am right now putting all the files on SVN. If anyone could do a render of her or a little animation. I want to know if there's any texture crawl using decals for cloth instead of DT mats.

Nov 21 2006, 02:12 PM
Well, I forgot to add an eye decal so I gave her one and recommited to SVN under WootsMom_EyeTextured.mdl. I gave her the same decal as Fat Farmhand, but it can easily be changed with the one from skinny if someone doesn't like the color.
mtpeak2
Nov 21 2006, 02:49 PM
Jeff, could you please save these models over the original. When I updated the skinny farmhand it was a mess, I updated the thumb on the one with the eye decal, David updated the rig on the first textured model you uploaded, we ended up with an updated rig on the non eye decalled model and an old rig on the decalled eye version. The rule is one model, I spent hours fixing it so we had an eye decalled model with an updated rig.

Nov 21 2006, 04:53 PM
Crap! I wish you told me that before. I just put the Skinny_Farmhans back up on SVN as *_retextured.mdl. I'll fix that right now. Did you rename WootsMom?
mtpeak2
Nov 21 2006, 05:54 PM
No I didn't rename woots mom. I knew you were texturing and I didn't do the thumbs yet. Go ahead and rename woots mom and then delete the other models, don't forget to delete the other skinny farmhand. Make sure you delete through the svn. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, just let me know when the models have been saved with the correct name and I'll delete them.

I already did it. It should be good. If not, then I don't know what I'm doing, haha.
