Ok here's my 1st try at painting with 3D Painter. I'm using this head as my training tool. The clean pic is after painting and rendering and the one with the edges on the patches is shaded mode in AM. 1st question is why do the edges look transparent on the patches. And second is I had already decaled the irises and after painting with all but the face mesh hidden I get duplicated irises in my pws. I hit the face mesh for decal in painter then select the auto tile decal then select projection paint then lock but it still processes irises when I accept the projection paint. I'm still getting used to the interface so I haven't found the blurr controls and am also very happy overall with the experience of painting a mesh with 3D Painter but learning the ropes is going to take some time.

Hi Scott,

The edges you see in the Animation:Master realtime viewer are there because Animation:Master displays the decals at a very low resolution. I guess it does this so your graphics card doesn't run out of texture memory too soon for models and projects with a lot of textures. For rendering, A:M of course uses the textures at full resolution.

I'm not sure what caused the duplicate irises. I've never seen this kind of behaviour before. Maybe you accidentally copy/pasted the irises group in A:M. That would then also duplicate the decals. Other than that, I don't see how something like this could occur.

Are you sure the irises are not in the same group as the face mesh? If the irises are both in the face mesh group and the irises group, that might explain why they are still processed in projection paint when you lock the face mesh.

Could you maybe send me the model so I could have a look at what might be wrong?

Best regards,
Filip

Filip, I closed the model in AM without saving the changes but it has happened several times so I know it will do it again. I'll repaint it and send it to you. When I select the group in painter as in AM and hit the H key the only thing showing is the face mesh (no irises). It's gotta be something I'm doing or not doing but I'll repaint it and send it to you. When I accept the projection paint it processes the irises before the face color(the name I give the decal image in painter). As I said I am very pleased with the experience of painting a mesh this way and it doesnt seem to affect the render. Remember I had some trouble getting the license to go through so maybe something got dinked up in the install. Let me repaint and we'll go from there. Thank's (edit) Ok I found out what I was doing wrong. The irises are on the color channel which I had not turned off before painting. I turned it off on my latest attempt and all is well. There is one more thing, (to do with the eye sockets not taking paint below the bridge of the nose) but let me check it out before posting a question on it. I think the normals need to be flipped. Thanks alot!

Here's my 3rd try. I can't wait to gain more experience at painting with this software. It's obvious that I need more practice but for a first try with 3D Painter I dont think it's too bad. I did have to flip those normals near the bridge of the nose and eye sockets to get them to take the paint. I already know that the money spent for my purchase of 3D Painter was well spent. Thank's Filip!
