Any chance of a Mac version?

Can the Hash crew help out?

This plug-in seems to be pretty great. I would totally buy a licence.

A:M Paint isn't made by Hash, so they can only help out with advice.

From what I've heard, a Mac port would be a lot of work because the open-source libraries used to build the application are not cross-platform.

The (open source) library used to build the user interface is cross-platform (Windows, Linux, Unix...), but until recently it did not yet work on the latest incarnation of Macintosh. This appears to be taken care of now and others have already used it successfully on OS X in combination with OpenGL. As this was the main hurdle in making a Mac port, I've ordered an iMac last week so I can start working on the Mac version in a few days.

As good news as that may seem (and it is), it just means we'll never have the chance at beating Jim in the image contests! sad.gif

Fantastic! Can't wait to get my hands on this program. Been watching the windows folks with envy as they show what they can do with it. Thanks Filip!

Hi Gerald,

You won't have to re-purchase 3DPainter but I will have to create a new (free) license key for you.

Filip

Don't forget to check all of Apple's warnings about byte order for the two platforms. I felt lucky that my one big Mac app worked as a Universal without any changes when I built for Intel.

I haven't yet tried compiling it in Universal mode, but I will look out for these things. There are a few places in the application where byte order will matter.

Anyway, here's a first screenshot of the Mac version. There's still a lot of work to be done, but it starts taking shape...

The Mac version is still progressing well. The last few weeks I've been preparing a new Windows update for 3DPainter (mainly for Vista compatibility), but all these efforts will equally benefit the Mac version. The application itself already runs on Mac, but I still have to port the .hxt plug-in that links A:M to 3DPainter.

Glad to hear this is in development. It's something I'm definitely looking forward to!

Any kind of non-binding ballpark guess on when?

Difficult to say. It progresses well, but you never know what roadblocks you might hit. Anyway... it's top priority now!
