Me, too. I had the image capture, was going to submit a report when I was ready to start rendering today's changes.
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
dry.gif I don't know if this is a report issue or just me. Is anyone else having problems using mirror mode?
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
never mind....it was me.

While attempting to install v13j for OSX (it also happened under v13i) I get an error which says:

"You cannot continue. There is nothing to install."

This happens after you pick a destination for installation, then "Continue"... then "Install" in the Easy Install dialog.

The latest version I have installed is v13h. I have the Yeti CD.

have I missed something between the versions??

On your machine, there's a folder called "Receipts" in the Library folder. There's a copy of your A:M installer in there. Delete that copy, and run the original installer again.

Thank you! That worked

Any idea on when "K" will be released?

I was testing displacement maps again and I noticed that higher bit depth images are not producing smooth transitions from one bit level to the next like they used to. The levels are very noticable in these two renders, but, for some reason, they are smoother at smaller image resolutions (maybe smoothness is compromised for detail?).

[attachmentid=20901]

I know A:M isn't causing those huge geometrical curves. That's a problem with the displacement map creator; I've already contacted Ryan Clark about that. Does anyone know how to make the transitions smoother, or why this topography effect is happening?
Chad_Hunt
open photoshot and open your image and press ctrl + L and adjust the levels a few times to get more contract and it will give you better results.
MattWBradbury
Chad, I tryed adjusting the levels, but there was no change. Bluring helps the displacement geometry a little though.

Makes the model look like it's made of a wax for rapid prototyping.

What am I doing wrong, all my renders make pale blue images with no content. I am exhausted from finishing my mascot entry but need to render....any help is appreciated. Thanks, huh.gif
JTalbotski
Are you sure you're looking through the camera when you press the render button?

Jim
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
sad.gif My view is shortcut to camera.
luckbat
Are you rendering to targa, or some other image format?
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
sad.gif First I tried an EXR sequence, then Targa - both blue.
luckbat
Is there any way you can upload your project for others to take a look at? I realize it's a contest entry, but...

Also: what happens when you do a realtime hardware render? Still blue?
ddustin
Check the camera to make sure FOG is off
I have seen where it gets enabled by accident.

What resolution are those maps? If they are the size shown then the bit depth is errelevent as there can only be so much information there. However, I am wondering if AM could do the smoothing internally no matter what the bit depth or resolution...

Bluring helps the displacement geometry a little though.

If bluring helps then it means that although you had a higher bit depth file, the data itself was not higher bit depth. The 8-bits depth file was probably simply transformed into a 16-bits depth producing a 16-bit depth files with only 256 level of grays.
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
mad.gif Realtime is fine, fog is definitely off. If I render a basic VGA Targe its finr but very low in detail - not good for the contest. When I try to render in a higher resolution - blam, blue bullsh*t. My maps are mostly 300 dpi, the file with all the models & textures is around 7.5MB. As there is nothing moving I have turned off motion blur, D.O.F. is off. Nothing pumped up about the settings except resolution. My video card should have no problem handling it. I am soooooooo F'd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
luckbat
Wait, video card? You're not using the "Realtime" render setting, are you?
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
smile.gif No not the realtime, I found the culprit. Shadow Buffers ON in render options always produces the blue screen for me. So off it goes!!! I may still be in the race yet.
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
mad.gif AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

O.K., New problem. Every time I try to add a spline or move control points, everything stops and AM is "finding patches" then "aligning normals". I found a post about this for ver 12 but the thread was read only so I couldn't post there. I checked all my settings but could not find the culprit. Could it be my video card doing this?

Going nowhere fast.....
Chad_Hunt
if you are in shaded mode and have a patch heavy model this is going to happen. The models I have been working on lately have up over 300,000 patches so shaded mode is out of the question. suggestion, work in wire frame mode, remember to save often but do keep in mind that when you do save it is going to go through the finding patched, aligning normals bit. So plan to take a break when you want to save, that is when I get up and run to the bath room from holoding it for hours!! I have had some operations like that take a few hours to complete so be warned!

Chad
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
mad.gif Upgraded to ver 13.0M..wireframe mode is looking for patches and aligning normals....WTF!?
Chad_Hunt
should only do it when you try to save.
UNGLAUBLICHUSA
mad.gif Nope, every single cp change.....
Chad_Hunt
damn, not sure what that is about then. sorry.....
KenH
I think I got this on a specific model. I moved into a new model and all was fine. As a workaround try copying and pasting the cps into a new model. For a complete solution, post the model on AM Reports.

PS You could also try the latest v13:

mad.gif I am using the latest ver of 13. Will try opening another model then going back and check the results.
