Full Version: Moving hair CP... thingies... keyboard constraints?

I am improving with hair... slowly.

One of my main hardships in my folicalical endeavors is getting the hair into position.

I view from one angle and know exactly how a hair control thingy needs to move... but whatever angle I move it from... it moves in relation to that view angle...

Do the key board constraints not have an effect on moving hair splines?

If so... is there a way to control how you move those points?

Say I view from the top to adjust hair sticking out to the side. the hair is perfect front to back... I just want to push it in sideways. If I do this from the top view... the hair changes its vertical postion due to pull it in.

It feels like "wack-a-mole".... push the hair from one side... it pops out the other... move it there... it pops out the other... rinse repeat.

Are you using the Forward Kinematic arrow at the side. You get less movment with that....ie just the cp your moving and not any others on the stand.

It might be nice if we had the rotation manipulator for hair cps.

Welcome to my world Vern. The keyboard constraints do nothing when moving the hair control points unfortunately, one thing I've thought of asking for would be the ability to treat the hair guides like regular splines (except for adding and removing control points). That way you can drag them around anyway you like and constrain the move direction. Ken's also right, you can use the F/K option for a bit more control but unfortunately hair styling is a lot like whack-a-mole no matter what you do. My process is usally comb to get the initial direction (which sometimes doesn't work for what I want), then drag the hair control points with the f/k and i/k controls until I'm happy. It can take a LOT of time.

Oh good!

Phew!

Kevin, if it takes you a long time... then that's fine with me... I thought I was missing something important... a secret trick... some kind of budhist zen trance thing...

My pet peve is when that end point pops up and whips around when I move the other points... dang thing could put an eye out.

Keyboard constraints, rotation and translation controls, multiple hair spline selection, for hair would shave off HOURS of work..

... pun intended dammit.

There is one other thing I realized that I was totally missing before.

Hair looks like crapola until a final render with multipass... no amount of render lock or "on screen" testing gives you a good representation.

Oh and... Muhair rules all...

... especially when it's cold outside... a muhair coat is very warm and cozy.
