I wonder...

1) Should the brighten/darken/clone tools work in Projection Mode? They don't for me.

2) Is is possible to make your own brushes? They seem to be saved as a Painter custom format.

Thanks.

You can easily make custom brushes... there is a tutorial at the manual on that, if I am not wrong.. you just have to save as a TGA (or png) with Alpha-Channel.
After that, you can import the image and use it as brush in Painter...

Thanks Fuchur. I forgot it was in the manual. That just leaves me wondering if 1) is a bug.

Hi Ken,

In projection paint mode, you're painting on kind of transparent canvas in front of the model. In order to be able to use tools such as clone, darken, etc..., you should use the option 'Get Surface Color' to bring the color of the model to this canvas (it 'unprojects' the texture from the model to the projection canvas). You won't see any immediate change, but when you start using the paint tools, they will now be able to manipulate the existing texture on the model.

This option is also described on page 22 of the manual.

Best regards,
Filip

Aha! Thanks Filip. With no "hover pop ups" over the icons I was searching for it there. Then I see you meant it's in the Projection Paint menu.

It would be cool to have the hover pop ups saying what all the icons are. You miss them when they're not there.

Also, if there's no technical reason against doing it, maybe you might consider the "Get Surface Color" option to be automatic when you press the Projection Mode icon.

Thanks again. (Off to bed with the manual. smile.gif )

The 'Get Surface Color' is not something you would want to use every time you're in projection paint mode (only when using tools that need the original texture information to operate such as 'darken' or 'fill') and which requires attention to avoid unwanted effects. It unprojects the textures from the model to the flat projection canvas. This means for example that if your model is zoomed out and you would then use this option, the quality of your texture would decrease as the number of pixels your model occupies on the projection canvas decreases. But for local edits with these tools, the 'Get Surface Color' works quite well as a workaround to a classic projection paint limitation. And for normal painting in projection paint mode, you simply don't need it.

Perhaps I use the tools that need "Get Surface Color" more than most then....especially for textures. Thanks for the tip of having to be zoomed in for better quality.
Maybe in the future keyboard shortcuts would speed things up.

Most of the tools already have shortcuts. For the next update, I will add some new ones (including one for the 'Get Surface Color' tool ).

There are supposed to be tooltips but due to some change in the user interface toolkit I use, they don't show up in the current version. This will be fixed in the next update.

Thanks for pointing these things out!
