Full Version: Do your models always load into 3DPainter?

In the limited time I've had to work with 3DPainter all appears to work fantastically, except that sometimes my A:M model won't load when I invoke 3DPainter from A:M in order to use the automapping feature. I may be doing something wrong, but haven't been able to figure it out yet.

The message from 3DPainter comes up that says something like "starting 3DPainter... sending model" but then 3DPainter doesn't actually load the model.

Any suggestions?

I had this issue in earlier versions when I had not yet saved the model file or the project file. Once I had a saved file it was fine.

I haven't had one fail, but mostly just playing with simple models. 3 point, 5 points and hooks. I did try Lambrina and she loaded ok.

Sometimes it flashes the 3DPainter window and then back to A:M, but 3DPainter is open (just have to alt-tab to switch screens). seems to happen when I have no decals on the model I'm sending to 3DPainter, but it's there, just with a warning that there are not yet any decals on it.

Only tried in V13g. 512mb system 128mb video XP Pro SP2

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep experimenting to see if I can figure it out.

The 3DPainter plugin creates a logging file on the root of your C drive (c:\3DP_log.txt). If you send this file to info@pixosaur.com after this happens, I can see what was the problem.

Is there a way to relocate where that file is placed? I like to keep my c:\ clean and tidy.

In the next update, you will be able to set this in the preferences dialog smile.gif .

I'll send it to you tonight. Thanks for all your hard work on this plugin. It's great!

Had that too once...
It was caused by a crash of A:M/3d Painter... (odd thing by the way... when I paint on a model and save the textures and then send it back to A:M, I have to go to the shaded-mode before I do a test-render... otherwise, A:M freezes... dont know why this is happening... but it isnt when I go to the shaded-mode first...)
I just started my PC again, and it worked again...

I did have the same thing happen a couple times, seemed like it only went away if I turned off painter and AM and restarted them. I think I might even have restarted the computer.

Mark's problem was caused by a '&' in the filename of the model. In a .prj file, a '&' appears as ' #&38' (which is needed to be a valid XML file). The plugin did not translate the '#&38' back to '&' and was therefore not able to load the file. This will be fixed in the next update.

Hey Filip, thanks for the quick response. I should have known better than to use a "&" character in a folder name.
