This is going to be my modelling thread for Ku-Klips workshop props that I'm going to make. Eventually I'll probably be doing some modelling of the workshop itself also.
I'm now in the process of collecting references for feasible props that I might be making (so if anybody out there got some great ref's that they think would fit and that I could try to make, feel free to post them here)
First of I think I'm going to make a standalone tooltable based on this clock making table (probably going to replace the electrical system with some pedal driven one):

Hi Stian,
Just to remain you that there is an inside workshop and a outside workshop proxie project available on SVN.
Also some prop has been done and stored in the SVN Prop/kluklip workshop.
Thanks

Brilliant Stian! The Workshop set is defined by the amount of stuff in it and we don't have any things like this yet.
Looking forward to this thread,

Have started on the table (will add a few shelfs on the tabletop). I have been looking at some spinning wheels, and I think I will try something similar for this table (a pedal on the floor that spins a big wheel on the side of the table). Shall I make the drawer in front wider, or shall I maybe have two?

New update. I decided to give the table an extra drawer. I've also started on the drive gear. I have no clue whether it works in reality or not, but I think it looks okay

Is this the table Tin Woodman is laying on the first time we see him in flashback during Sequence 1_04? (BTW, it's an awesome table.)

Hmm, It could be. However, as it is right now it is only 1.5m wide, and would not fit an whole person. Is the whole Tinman supposed to be on the table or only parts of him?

This is the kind of place to throw in some ideas! For example, it might be cool to have some weird telescoping stirrups that stick out of the end of the table to hold the feet up, (like a gynecologist table). Or maybe cables and pulleys hanging from the ceiling keep the feet up (like a patient in a cast in the hospital). I don't think you need to make the table larger, just increase the size of your imagination.

New update.
This is the solution I came up with regarding the footrest/headrest after a 8 cups of coffee. What do you guys think? Shall I stick with this solution or drink more coffee? (have not yet made the height adjusting pedal/handle)

Looks excellent! You're on the right track. For a workshop, the top of that pedestal might be a flat surface or a kind of cradle instead of a cushion. Whatever's at the top (even that cushion) it's a great solution!

Here is a small update. I've added a heightpedal for the footrest. Also modelled a small grindstone (or polishing disk?), which is turned on/off by lifting/lowering the handle on its right side to connect/disconnect it to the drivegear.

Wow, this is really a great model. I love it.
Just one thing. I would place the "gear" part on the other side (see image). I don't think it's very handy to have it right on the working space. It would be quite dangerous for the fingers.

I didn't move the gear part to the table outside, but I moved them a bit more to the end, and placed the rack on the outside of them.
I've also done a quick texture test, but I'll work more on it

Stian, I realize from your cute tool table that you're going for a hand crafted, tinkerer vibe but I noticed in this post,
workshop concepts, that there's a machine shop on the mezzanine.
I have a large selection of pictures of various large machine tools from a 1921 railroad maintenance catalog, a very few of which I've shown here;
old machine tools. I'll be building the first tool, the steam-hammer, for the machine shop.
These images are thumbnails compared to their original resolutions (approx. 3 mpixels x 3 mpixels). If you're interested in building any of these, let me know and I'll send you a higher res version. On the other hand if you'd prefer to see a wider assortment of thumbnailed tools, just ask.

I, too, have a set (about 120) of technical pictures from 1905 and 1935. They might be inspirational. Not necessarily to model them as is but to get a feel of the technical esthetic of that time.
Here is a sample. The actual scans are at 200dpi and are much larger than that

In Ku-klips workshop, we're going to shoot scenes in a "tinkering area" that'll have lots of benches and smaller tools. The background shots will have a lot of larger machinery in it, mostly items from Alain's sketches.
Some of those pictures have a very "electrical" look to them and would be out of place in the Workshop.

old machine toolsIf anyone's interested in doing the oxy-acetylene cart, I can make available an oxygen tank without gauges.
The last photo isn't to suggest that I think Ku-Klip should have a 200 ton crane. I just think the image of a steam locomotive hanging from a crane is cool.

It looks like a mechanical magnet?! You know: you turn the crank and the magnet pulls on metal, (rather than it being made of ferrite material like traditional magnets with that shape.) It got me wondering how such a magnet would work? Oz is indeed a strange and wonderful place.

Looks great - (perhaps the sewing machine needs an AGEP logo? like the Singer logo)

I second that. I think that's a really good idea and I say go for it Agep!
Also, That's a really well done example of mechanical modeling. Something you definately excel at Stian. So I was hoping that if you had time would you post a wireframe. There's a lot of mechanical modeling that will need to be done for this project, and looking at the splinage of stuff like this can really be a useful reference for others (and myself) to attempt high quality models such as this one. Looking good. I'm assuming you've taken your proportions from reference pictures, but... All the gas bottles I've come across (I work in a lab that has occasional need for them) have fairly square base plates - the carts generally are big enough for one bottle alone, and have a baseplate just the right size to hold the bottle.

Thanks Stuart. This is the
reference image I'm using, wich also have a acetylene tank (atleast I think so) next to the oxygen tank.
