Fellow Animation Master users,

I must admit I still have not upgraded to Version 13 yet, and am currently using V. 11.1 since I am basically doing modeling right now. Of course I intend to upgrade very soon.

I am somewhat aware that there are is a new hair shader in Version 13 and I am looking forward to checking it out, however I was wondering if some other things have been addressed as well. In particular:

-Turning: In modeling mode, if one chooses a cv, the turning mode uses it as a center for turning (sort of like a pivot). This is very useful for modeling. However, in hair grooming mode, there does not seem to be any equivalent when working on guide hairs. In fact the center or pivot of the turn seems to be somewhere far away (perhaps the center of the model?) As a result, turning the model around in grooming mode is very difficult and uncontrollable. Has this been addressed?

- Mirror mode: At the present time, mirror mode is not operational when working with guide hairs. Any change in v 13?

- Nudge keys: This may be wishful thinking, but can the arrow keys be used to nudge the control points on the guide hairs in version 13?

Well, that's about it, thanks for any information you may provide.

Joe.

1. No. I agree, it's incredibly annoying.

2. No. If you need perfect symmetry, though, you might want to consider using direction maps instead of the brush tool.

3. No. Those things look like control points, but they really aren't. You can't even select them, let alone nudge them.

Feel free to submit these as feature requests for v14. If the TWO animators find your suggestions appealing, they may get implemented.

Thanks for the quick response Mike,

One other question...

In version 11.1, changes to guide hairs (and subsequently hair style) do not apply to the model as it sits in the choreography. In order to get the hair to update correctly in the chor, one needs to reload the project (unless there is another way I am aware about). Do you know whether in v13, changes to hair style made in the modeling window automatically applies to the model in the chor?

Also, what is the best way to send the request to the development team?

You sometimes need to hit the space bar, and there's still a little quirkiness, but you certainly don't have to reload the project. In v13, updating the hair guides in the modeling window will update in the chor. You might have to close the modeling window first, I'm not sure. I never keep them both open at the same time, due to framerate slowdowns. Remember that you can enter modeling mode from within the chor.

Use http://www.hash.com/reports/main_page.php

You'll need to create a new account (your forums one won't work) if you've never used Hash Reports before. Once you create a report, set its severity to "feature."

Thanks,

I'm not sure why I thought that updating hair styles do not immediately update in the choreography because they do now. Maybe I did something wrong.

That is most often a result of not pressing space... I dont know why you have to, but that will help you to get rid of that...
