Finally a release date! www.3dpainter.com
The release date is august 25. This is a bit later than I originally planned, but the thing is that I'm having a short holiday in a few days and it wouldn't be a good thing if I were unreachable the weeks after the release. This is why it is postponed untill I return from holiday.
Thanks for the patience!

Initially, it's Windows only. Later on, I'll try to make a Mac version too (if feasable...).

Hi, a 3dpainter question.
Say I have multiple maps on my object. Like I have an arm, there is one decal for the top of the arm and a seperate image decal for the bottom of the arm. Am I able to blend the seams on this with 3dpainter?
Does 3dpainter take all your maps and make it one map? Is that possible. I seem to recall a way to make that happen with an export feature, just wondering if 3dpainter does the same.
Am I expecting too much?

Yes, you can do that. Say you have one decal that overlaps another and you want to paint transparency onto one of them to blend together. And you can also use "projection paint" mode to paint across a seam, with the results making changes to the different decals that are involved.

MMZ_TimeLord
Aug 25 2006, 12:58 PM
RTFM Dhar...

It will ask you to e-mail a machine ID to 3dpainter... it will then reply with your user name and key.
Keep in mind this is hardware specific, so you can't use it on another machine (that I know of).

Aug 25 2006, 01:24 PM
OK, I got the key & the fix, it's up & running, but, how do i use it the way Stian showed it at the Bash? He'd paint something on the model, then he turns the model and what he painted moves with the model.
I'm still reading the manual....I just can't wait.... reading is too time consuming...

So when (if?) the Mac version comes out, will we be able to get the introductory price of $79 also?

I really can't say if or when a Mac version will be made (I'll try to see what can be done), but if it happens, the Mac users will have the same introductory price.

Dhar - You need to create an 'automatic decal' then open 'projection Paint' from the top menu. You can then paint directly onto the model. You have to close 'Projection Paint' to turn the model and reopen to start painting again.
I think that's right - I'm on a different machine for internet access and I'm only just starting to experiment with the software myself. My initial reaction is WOW!!! This is going to save so much time

How in the royal heck does someone program a thing like this.
I'm sitting here amazed...
Filip... you are officially 'superific'.
Someone put 'Programmer' under his login name please.
May you grow filthy rich so that the port to Mac comes sooner than later.
Thanks Filip!
Rodney
Added: For those interested it took about 30 minutes from initial download through registration to operational 3D Painter. This was with a problem with me sending a bad registration number too.
An email to Filip got it fixed within a few more minutes.
Outstanding service!

Wow, not only a great product, but easy manual to read, even for me

Who'd thunk it?
Nice job Philip. Consider me a happy customer.

What does "hardware specific" mean? If I change my mainboard/CPU/graphiccard I'm not able to use it anymore?
If so I'll leave my fingers from this one.
Hope someone clarifies this.

A hardware bound license key allows the software to run on a specific computer. It is only based on the real core components of your PC (like mainboard and CPU). Changing the graphics card or installing a network card will not require a new key.
If you have a second PC or if you upgrade your PC (partly or completely), I can create extra license keys for you at no extra cost (as long as it's for the same user).
Best regards,
Filip

These are great news!

As I work on two different PCs you would send me two keys? So your licence is user-specific and not "installation"-specific? That'll be pretty fair.

DJ

Filip, that is very fair and fantastic news. I too use two computers and was wondering about this 'hardware specific key' and what would happen when, inevitably, I change my laptop etc.
I sincerely hope you get the financial reward you deserve for creating this amazing software. I textured a tree last night by simply using the Auto Decal/Projection Paint mode and it was so easy. Previously I would have just slapped a procedural on it and maybe a few small dirt/moss decals to break it up.
Thanks.

This is a tree I created using the Sweeper plugin. I used it as a quick test in 3DPainter. I created an 'automatic decal' then used 'projection paint' to paint the model in 3D space. It's a bit rough as it's my first attempt but the potential is certainly there.

Good to hear about the multiple lic. I use AM on 2 separate machines and have one copy of 3dpainter up and running & Licenced.....will need to do this to my second machine but not at any rush,.....so the info gave me a sigh of relief...
Excellent program by the way and WELL WORTH the price tag (bargain) for me, Thanks..

If so you shouldn't have to wait long. Filip was FAST with my key and also with a couple of questions I've had since.
