I've started working on the Hall set and am basing it on the wiki images here:
http://wiki.hash.com/two/published/Yoop%27s+castle

I intend to add decorations to the ceiling, statues and paintings, windows and improve the columns.

Hi,
Ok Ken thank for this new interior Yoop castle thread.
Nice start

I'll look for the outside Yoop castle myself.

We'll base our work on the wikki URL you've specified...and with the animatics
I 've made some drawing stored in Yoop castle /design story /wikki page.
maybe some can be adapted to fit your design... take what you wish fit best.

I thought Matt (AniMattor) modeled the bunny rabbit. Or, was that a different rabbit?

Ooooo Can I donate my Cow-a-Johnga model to be a weird statue? (don't tell John, of course). He could be a former victim of Mrs Yoop as she is inclined to transform people for her amusement. There could be other statues that also represent former victims. Like a gallery for her "Best works"

And Didn't you (Ken) do Mrs Yoop?

Fabulous - my evil plan is complete!
KenH
Yes! We could take some characters off the cd too to be statues. I plan to make inlets between the columns for them. They'll probably be in stone though....no bright colors for Mrs Yoop.
If you can get the model to me, I'll put him in Nancy. Thanks.
KenH
Another update. That's scarecrow in the hallway.....is he too small? Too big? I like the columns there as it makes it like a prison with bars. Also, I'm not going to go with windows but lanterns/candles/torches. Yoop is cut off from the outside world and that's why she needs some captives to talk to.

Ah poo. That's no fun.

here's a vanilla concrete Mr Moo Yoop (aka Cow-a-Johnga aka Mooozilla).

I'll zip up the model later - no textures/decals should be included I presume?

& to answer your question - I think it looks good to have the characters small.
KenH
Heh....that looks great. I don't think I'll need textures. If you want you could put a quick model beard on him. But it may be dark in there and it mightn't be noticed.

KenH
Added lights.
martin
Oh... Nice. Very eerie.
KenH
Thanks Big M. Does anyone know how to make Bulb lights sort of fade off and softer at the edges. I can't see softness in the properties and I can't use any other light types for the fire.
KenH
Added my troll statue.....need five others. And a picture of mr and mrs yoop at the end should finish it off. I also adjusted the colors in PS to come up with another lighting feel.
NancyGormezano
I like the idea of the giant statues dwarfing the main characters. The alcoves look great. I prefer the amber-y lighting.
KenH
Awww....just as you say that. I'll render an amber one tomorrow. Mr Cow is on the left. Not a great angle. I might move him further up the corridor.

Try to render to an OpenEXR file. That should get your bulb light attenuation right.

I have a really nice unicorn model that would make a great statue. I'll post a pic of it tomorrow for you. Working on the Bedroom today.
KenH
Perfect! Thanks Lloyd. Another good one that comes to mind is Perk. I don't think he's available though.
KenH
Here's the relative sizes of the characters. I scaled up Mrs Yoop 350 percent in the chor. The others are normal size. It's just a jpeg. I'll do an exr when I get a chance to experiment with it.

All it needs now is the painting at the end.....Rodger.

Oh, Perk would be good.

Ken, I've been thinking about the great Mrs. Yoop's Castle "look" you're doing... Go ahead and model some more of Alain's room designs. We'll put anything you build into the film, one way or another. Mrs. Yoop's Castle is the pinnacle of the film, and you're doing a bang-up job of proving that.

p.s. Don't forget the Balrog as one of the statues.
KenH
Thanks Martin. I've started on the kitchen which looks more like an "add on" to the castle at the moment. I might stick with that look. I think the hallway is more or less done. Just needs texturing and probably abit of fog with all those torches.
OK, I'll put the Balrog in but I'll let you handle Mr Jackson when he comes knocking! biggrin.gif

I've started on the kitchen

Kitchen? Is that the "Golden Chamber?" I saw the "Kitchen" task on dotProject but there's no call for it in the script or book. Yoop's Golden Chamber is where she takes her meals but rather than cook she transforms things like rocks and mice into the food she wants.

Hey Ken, the corridor is looking fantastic.
KenH
Thanks Jeff.

Rhett....by kitchen I meant where the group first come in contact with Yoop. Have you any suggestions as to what props should inhabit that room?

OK good, that's the right place, then.

We'll need a tea kettle and a cup. A cage to hang from the ceiling. Her large table and chair (maybe the legs should be made of tree trunks). And I think a few rocks will be called for.

Alain may have something to add about the set dressing but I like his impression of having the room fade into the darkness.

Something like a rough shelf or bookcase could be placed along the wall and lead into the black.

That's something to start with, yah?

KenH
Thanks Al and Rhett....I hadn't seen that sketch. I'll get on it.
KenH
I've made this set big so that the group of characters don't need to be scaled down. Is that the best way to go about it? Does a bigger set mean longer rendering times? If it does, I'll scale the set down and we can scale down the group....if that isn't going to effect any dynamics/rigging on them.
martin

No.
KenH
Thanks Martin. I'll leave it as is then.
