I seem to be having some real trouble with my hair in 12.0. I'm not exactly an experienced user, but I'vve had A:M for some time now.
The problem is that the forces don't affect the hair. I don't know why, but they just don't. SO my hair stays exactly where it's groomed. Is this some sort of bug, or is there something I'm missing?

Do you have dynamics turned on?

As a matter of fact, I do. I have liek everything on, and everything points to ti working, yet it doesn't!

Do you use Spring or Constraint as Dynamic-Simulation?
Is your stiffness-level high?

I use constraint, but I'v tried them all, and I've tried adjusting my stiffness lefel. It's about 50 right now, and there's no affect when chaning it.

Are you trying this on frame 0? - move to another frame to see the effect perhaps.

Nope, nothing. But it does look like the motion is affecting it a tad, bit. I have the model set to spin around currently. It just won't get affected by forces...

Perhaps you could post screen shots of your relevant parameters that you have set. I have never used external forces with hair, as I too, at one time (ver 11) had trouble getting them to work - but I believe others have (especially Mr. BigBoote)
so if you could post what settings you have for the 1) Force object, 2) the settings in the hair system for forces 3) how the force is positioned in the chor with the hair, and perhaps a rendered frame - not sure if forces would show in real-time maybe?
Might help track this down better...
EDIT - just occurred to me - do you have something other than 0% in the forces settings in the hair material ? - perhaps this is what is keeping external forces from affecting the hair? I'm just stabbing in the dark.

Well, there it is. The little hair thing in the middle is the thing that I'm using to try to get my hair working! Unfortunately, it don't work.

ok - now that i see your settings - I realize you're just trying to get gravity to affect the model (and not an external force object) -
To get gravity to work - you have to turn on use forces in the hair system settings - you currently only have use gravity on

Oh wait no I had that on, I was just playing with settings and accidentally turned it off...

the other thing to expand is your targeting in the hair system properties - turn off is Rod and adjust the stiffness - you currently don't have that expanded in your screen shot

Eeep, I forgot to do that one for the screenshot. Here...
Rod == Off(Was on before, I just been playing around with the settings.)
Stiffness == 50%(Tried 100% and 0%, etc)

I just tried hair in 12w with a char of mine in an action - and it works -
best thing I can suggest is start clean - new project - bring your hair char in & check your hair settings - start a new action (or chor) - and move to a frame other than 0
I also hopelessly confuse myself with turning things on/off, etc ...

Yeah...it woudl be nice to have a solid solution though...to know exactly what's going on...

So nobody here knows what's gonig on? Man, I just can't git this thing to work...

I notice you are on a mac - I am using PC ver 12w - It works for me.
I created a 1 patch model (horizontal, normals up) & I created a hair material -
material settings - hair system:
dynamic options ON,
targeting CONSTRAINT,
stiffness 0
is rod ON
Use Gravity ON
Use Forces ON
do not change anything else.
dragged hair material to the 1 patch hair model
created an action with the hair model (could have done it in chor as well)
in the action or chor: go to frame 1 or 2 or 3 or 5 or whatever - WATCH hair droop -
make a simple case & try it.

Aye I've done that!! Lawl, my A:M sux, first it stopped rendering to .png files correctly, and now this...
