(Chant throughout the whole song)
Wop them, bop them, pop them,
Wop them, bop them, POP them,
Wop them, bop them, POP them.

We are the Loons, and we're really tough,
Don't fool with us because we can get rough,
We'll pull on your toes, and tweak your nose,
We'll twist your hair, and make you stare,
Until you yell, "Enough!"

We are the Loons, and we know why you're here,
You want to stretch us, and bend us, and pull on our ear,
You may think you're clever but we know what you'll do,
You'll wop us, and bop us, your goal is to POP us,
So we'll do it first to you.

We are the Loons but we're not buffoons,
You come in the morning, and you won't leave by noon,
You'll mess with us, guess with us, you'll even dress with us,
Others have tried but they have been tied,
Just like we'll do to you.

hehe that could be done like rapping lol

The music (not the lyrics) to "Teddy Bear's Picnic" is PD.

You could probably adapt the loon lyrics to it and have a song.

I tried matching the words to the beat.... they don't match sad.gif

Could you write a lyrics and notes sheet to see how you hear it?

Lovely tune BTW

I did say "adapt" wink.gif ... something like this:

[attachmentid=17556]

I'm not saying there isn't some surgery to do but when I saw the words I thought "Teddy Bear's Picnic".

Mission Accomplished!

Here's another recording form last weekend. Martin sings the Loons' song.

NancyGormezano
Ahhhh, that's a relief to see that others can match my high standards in singing. Hee heeee. Tres charmant.

I assume there will be a need for a "chorus" of voices for that little ditty?

Mucho fun.
Rodney
blink.gif

Yep... need chorus of voices from high and squeaky to very low register...

Could end with whats his name yelling.... or...

Moving in slowing... things aren't looking so good...

(now more quietly this time)

Wop them... (quitely)

<pause>

Bop them... (little louder... shh....)

<pause>

Jump on them... (little more empashis on each word but maybe even quieter...)

(Loons move in from all sides... most of them now smiling rather maniacally)

<pause><Loons moving in closer>
<pause><closer>
<wait for it...><Loons begin to grin... they've done this before...>

Stop them!!! (Yelling and pouching)
KenH
Yes....it may have been said....but I can hear the "unknown loons" chanting this in the background as King Bal and Chief Loon talk.

"unknown loons"

unknown? I think we know who we they are

shall be a fun challenge to sync up the voices
Rodney
This is going to be a fun sequence to animate. Lots of mayhem... loons everywhere... squash and stretch...

For all intents and purposes the Loons should be really scary creatures.
They have the tattoos/warpaint. They have weapons/pointy spears.

Am I mistaken that when this song is sung our heroes still don't really know the Loons to be inept... comical creatures? This is before the comedy of exagerated activity takes place right?

Regarding my suggested adddition leading to the pounce and capture of our heroes:

The line "Jump on them..." might be said by only Big Loon as a preparatory command.
His preparatory command clues all the Loons into what they are about to do. All through non-verbal and simple verbal communication. For other victims that stumbled across the Loons it could have been 'Sit on them...", "Stomp them..." or whatever warriorly ways the Loons are schooled in. Some of them (I'd guess all of them) must have escaped to post the sign(s) warning not to go to Loonville.

The seriousness of the early scenes is important.
If the viewer regards the Loons as something of a threat initially... scary even... the exageration and comedy of the inept Loons will reasonate all the more in later scenes. It also helps contrast their evil ways with that of Mrs. Yoop.

Having Big Loon issue the preparatory commmand which all other Loons follow also would establish that he's been rising in power within the Loon clan for quiet a while and the other Loons tend to follow him. When he tries to usurp power from King Loon later his history has already been (somewhat) established.

Now we know what it would sound like if you combined William Shatner with Leonard Nimoy...

This would be a great Hip-Hop song. If nobody takes it by the time you get back, you should certainly give it a try!
jamagica
Ok...just a question. Is this a movie for the smaller kids or is it gonna be like a PG type thing...it looks very G'ish to me...Should i make the hip hop beat kiddish in that case? Meaning easy to follow. If you guys also want a vocal track over it...ya man is here!

I'll actually try to get started today...I gotta pack then with leftover time I'll start on it..

If I did record over it for you guys I could do different voices for each clause of the song
jamagica
I've already started on the instrumental and it's going to be great...I'll try to post something up in a few hours

Thanks for the permission!

Did you catch "Teddy Bear's Picnic" in "Open Season"?

And they didn't even bother to change the words.
martin
Niels is trying his "sound" some more.
NancyGormezano
definitely hip hop - fun

A concern would be that it has too similar a feel to the scarecrow song - perhaps the scarecrow song should be pushed to a slightly different flavor (eg cowboy overtones?, latin/salsa flavor?).

Niels obviously has the range - and would know better than I how & when to introduce variation.
Rodney
Dusting off 'Wop Them Bop Them' for a little exploration this weekend.
All storymen/women are welcome to join in as they see fit.

The first thing we'll do is review what we already have:

The Script
The Animatic
The Song

The entire 'Loon' sequence follows to aid in our understanding of the location, character and activities within the song.

SEQUENCE 2_03

2_03_01
TIN WOODMAN, WOOT, followed by SCARECROW, continue hacking their way through the forest.

2_03_02
EXT. CLEARING – DAY

TIN WOODMAN emerges, almost tumbles headlong into a vast cleared space in the forest.

TIN WOODMAN
060-03 Whoa—whoa!

TIN WOODMAN regains his balance with the aid of WOOT and SCARECROW. They gaze around.

2_03_03

WOOT
060-04 What…

SCARECROW
060-05 In the name…

TIN WOODMAN
060-06 Of Great Oz…

2_03_04
The RABBIT peers over WOOT⿿S shoulder.

WOOT
060-07 Wow⿦

2_03_05
EXT. AN IMMENSE CIRCULAR CLEARING - DAY

The top branches of the trees reach over and form a TREE DOME over it. The clearing glows with a soft, white light.

WOOT pushes TIN WOODMAN aside, SCARECROW pushes WOOT aside, so that they stand in a row, staring in awe.

These are the LOONS… and their various actions support this name. Some play, some work at tasks and some gather in groups to talk… their voices are a dizzying cacophony of noise and confusion.

2_03_06
LOONS argue

2_03_07
LOONS carrying balloons.

2_03_08
LOONS belly bounce.

2_03_09
LOON bowling

2_03_10
PAN TO: Rack of LOONS hit by bowling ball.

2_03_11
TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT watch in amazement.

TIN WOODMAN
My!

2_03_12

SCARECROW
061 Are… are they rubber, do you think?

SCARECROW⿿S voice echoes through the clearing.

2_03_13
The LOONS stop whatever they’re doing; turn toward the intruders.

2_03_14

TIN WOODMAN
Uh-oh, they⿿ve spotted us.

SCARECROW
Eh⿦ Yikes!

2_03_15
The LOONS rush at them—run and bound and bounce with tremendous speed. One Loon reaches toward them, it⿿s arm stretches, and its hand grows to huge proportions

2_03_16
TIN WOODMAN starts to raise his axe—and the LOONS are on them.

SCARECROW
062-04 Yaaaahhhhh!

2_03_17

WOOT
062-05 Look out—

TIN WOODMAN
062-06 Watch your—

2_03_18
The arm wraps around them.

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, WOOT
062-07 Help—HELP!!!

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT are swiftly inundated in the sea of roundness…

2_03_19
EXT. IMMENSE CLEARING - LATER

TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW and WOOT are all snugly wrapped up in long tendrils of vines. They struggle helplessly. Suddenly, BIG LOON leaps in front of them.

2_03_20

BIG LOON
063 A-ha! Gotcha!

2_03_21
The LOONS make strange noises and bounce excitedly. TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT look around, concerned for their safety.

2_03_22

BIG LOON
063-01 Come—bring them to King Bal and have ‘em

2_03_23

p=.BIG LOON (CU)
tried, condemned and perforated!

2_03_24
The LOONS cheer lustily, bounce up and down.

2_03_25
SCARECROW, TIN WOODMAN and WOOT exchange worried looks…

2_03_26
EXT. CENTER OF THE CLEARING - DAY

The captives are dragged to a raised PLATFORM. The LOONS bounce and cheer madly. On the PLATFORM is a throne consisting of a big, WIDE CHAIR with a string tied to one arm. The string leads upward.

2_03_27
BIG LOON bounces up onto the platform.

BIG LOON
064 Now King Bal shall judge these terrible creatures—and dispense justice! Yaaaas.

2_03_28
The LOONS bounce and cheer until the entire clearing is a mass of chaotic, bouncing madness.

2_03_29
SCARECROW, TIN WOODMAN and WOOT look around at the madness, frightened.

2_03_30
BIG LOON takes hold of the string. The other LOONS fall silent.

2_03_31
BIG LOON looks around importantly. With great ceremony, he pulls on the string.

The assembled LOONS “ooh” and “ahh” reverently.

2_03_32
BIG LOON solemnly pulls… there is a GASP from the assembled LOONS… they lower their eyes…

2_03_33
KING BAL appears at the other end of the string. He’s much like the other LOONS, except for the fact that he wears a crown.

2_03_34

KING BAL
Coming down, everybody! Can you see me? Coming down!

2_03_35
BIG LOON hauls KING BAL down the throne. KING BAL seats himself. Two attendant LOONS rush up and tie KING BAL in. He looks out over his loyal subjects… bobbing gently against his restraints.

LOONS (reverently)
064-01 Woo… woo-woo-woo…woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-woo

2_03_36
LOONS continue to “Woo” reverently until KING BAL holds up a hand ⿿ they stop.

2_03_37

KING BAL
065 Hello again, hello. What’s up now?

2_03_38

BIG LOON
066 Strangers, your Majesty—

BIG LOON throws a menacing look at TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT.

BIG LOON
066-01 —strangers and captives!

2_03_39
The other LOONS “Woo” vigorously until KING BAL again raises a hand. He looks closely down at SCARECROW, WOOT and TIN WOODMAN.

KING BAL
067 Are they dangerous, do you think?

2_03_40
WOOT looks around. His fear is dissipating.

2_03_41

BIG LOON
068 Ah… they may not be…

2_03_42

BIG LOON
But we mustn’t take chances, must we?

2_03_43

BIG LOON
Enough accidents happen to us poor Loons as it is.

2_03_44
KING BAL takes a closer look.

The assembled LOONS react, wail and moan wretchedly.

2_03_45

BIG LOON
068-01 My advice is to condemn and perforate ‘em, now!

The LOONS cheer lustily. BIG LOON acknowledges their support with a nod of his body.

2_03_46
KING BAL looks disgruntled. He mutters:

KING BAL
069 Keep your advice to yourself. (louder) Who’s King here, anyhow? You—or me?

BIG LOON looks out at the assembled LOONS. They’ve fallen silent. SCARECROW, TIN WOODMAN and WOOT take note of this. They exchange a look.

2_03_47

BIG LOON
070 We made you our King because you have less common sense than the rest of us!

2_03_48
PAN: BIG LOON pleads case to LOON crowd. He struts back and forth between the throne and the prisoners.

BIG LOON
I could have been King myself, had I wanted to, but I didn’t care for the hard work and responsibility!

The other LOONS are impressed. They mutter.

BIG LOON turns to his audience—suddenly—there’s a sharp explosion—BIG LOON looks panic-stricken—he deflates.

What remains on the platform is a heap of flabby, WRINKLED SKIN that looks like a collapsed rubber balloon. The LOONS gasp.

2_03_49
SCARECROW, TIN WOODMAN and WOOT react, stunned.
2_03_50
KING BAL settles into his throne smugly.

KING BAL
071 Hah! Conceited rascal! He puffed himself up until he was bigger than the rest of you, and this is the result of his folly!

2_03_51
The LOONS react, cowed and frightened.

2_03_52

KING BAL
071-01 But… there is no reason not to be… merciful. Get the pump working, and blow him up again.

2_03_53
Some LOONS wheel out a big PUMP to BIG LOON’S skin.

2_03_54
The LOONS with the PUMP connect a hose.

2_03_55
LOONS pump air into BIG LOON.

2_03_56
BIG LOON just starts swells out.

2_03_57
SCARECROW, TIN WOODMAN and WOOT watch, fascinated. WOOT is forming a plan.

2_03_58

BIG LOON
072 Stop!

2_03_59

KING BAL
073 No, no—keep going! Bigger!

It⿿s clear what KING BAL⿿S decision means. He gives BIG LOON a look.

2_03_60
BIG LOON wails in anguish.

2_03_61
The other LOONS watch, fascinated as BIG LOON inflates to tremendous size and begins floating skyward.

2_03_62

KING BAL
074-01 Pride before a pop!

2_03_63
BIG LOON floats to the end of the hose, looks around desperately. The pumping continues and he pops free and squirts into the air, flying around erratically.

BIG LOON
075-01 Noooooooooo….

BIG LOON goes OS and can no longer be heard.

2_03_64
The LOONS on the PLATFORM look at KING BAL. KING BAL settles back imperiously into his throne. The LOONS on the platform push the PUMP away.

2_03_65
SCARECROW, TIN WOODMAN and WOOT look around… tense.

2_03_66

KING BAL
076 And now… these intruders DO appear to be proud and puffed up.

2_03_67

KING BAL
Perhaps we SHOULD perforate ‘em, eh? What say you?

2_03_68
Slowly, then with gathering momentum, the LOONS begin to cheer.

2_03_69
KING BAL looks out over them, smug and secure.

2_03_70
WOOT looks around, then up at KING BAL. WOOT squints his eyes.

2_03_71
On the platform, an attendant LOONS produces a long, sharp thorn. He glances at KING BAL, who nods his assent.
2_03_72
The LOON with the thorn approaches SCARECROW, TIN WOODMAN and WOOT. They look around desperately. There seems to be no escape.

2_03_73

SCARECROW (CU)
Hoo-hoo! (frightened)

2_03_74
The LOON leans over with great menace… and sticks the thorn into SCARECROW’S leg.

2_03_75
CU: There’s a moment of expectation. SCARECROW relaxes. He smiles.

SCARECROW
Heh⿦ Didn⿿t hurt a bit.

2_03_76
KING BAL and the LOONS react with extreme disappointment.

2_03_77
The LOON with the thorn

2_03_78
CU: jabs at TIN WOODMAN.

The thorn thunks against TIN WOODMAN’S body.

2_03_79
TIN WOODMAN smiles.

TIN WOODMAN
Heh⿦ Sorry⿦ Make of tin, you know.

2_03_80
The LOONS react with a cry of outrage. The LOON with the thorn looks around. Obviously, he thinks he’s going to get blamed for this. The mood grows ugly.

LOONS
Muttering.

2_03_81

KING BAL
What is it? Dull or something?

2_03_82
The LOON with the thorn is desperate. He jabs the thorn into WOOT’S leg.

2_03_83

WOOT
077 Ow!

2_03_84
WOOT kicks out instinctively—into the LOON’S puffy stomach.

LOON
077-01 Ooof—

2_03_85
The kicked LOON explodes with a loud pop.

2_03_86
The other LOONS gasp in horror.

2_03_87
WOOT recovers and struggles against his bonds. With a monumental effort he bursts them.

2_03_88

KING BAL
Uh-oh⿦

2_03_89
LOONS flee in terror.

2_03_90
WOOT frees TIN WOODMAN and SCARECROW.

2_03_91
WOOT grabs the thorn which lies unnoticed on the ground.

2_03_92
WOOT leaps off the platform—and lunges into the crowd of LOONS. They scream in terror.

2_03_93
WOOT runs after LOONS.

WOOT
Here ⿿ take that! How do you like it now? Ha!

2_03_94
WOOT pricks a LOON in the butt. It pops.

2_03_95
WOOT pricks another LOON in the butt. It pops.

2_03_96
With yells of fear the other LOONS bound away in all directions, popping.

2_03_97
TIN WOODMAN and SCARECROW watch, horrified.

2_03_98
Only KING BAL remains within reach, seated on his throne with a bewildered look.

2_03_99
WOOT grips the thorn and starts for the platform. SCARECROW grabs him.

SCARECROW
079 Enough, Master Woot.

WOOT
079-01 He would’ve—

SCARECROW
079-02 Let him alone. He seems a good enough king for his peculiar people, and after we are gone, the Loons will have something of a job to pump up all those whom you have punctured.

2_03_100
CU: WOOT faces SCARECROW belligerently… then he lets the anger go… slumps. SCARECROW puts a kindly hand on WOOT’S shoulder.

2_03_101
KING BAL fumbles with the cord that fastens him to the throne, his eyes on TIN WOODMAN, SCARECROW, and WOOT. He releases it—

KING BAL
079-03 Heh-heh. Yes. Heh-heh!

He floats upward to the leafy dome.

2_03_102
WOOT watches KING BAL rise sullenly… rubs his leg.

WOOT
080 Every one of them ought to be exploded!

2_03_103

TIN WOODMAN
081 No. It’s my conclusion that we had no business to intrude here. This is their country, not ours. Come, Woot.

2_03_104

SCARECROW
082 Well said, my friend.

2_03_105
TIN WOODMAN and SCARECROW walk away but WOOT remains.

SCARECROW
We really had no right to disturb their peace and comfort; so let us go away.

2_03_106
WOOT glares at the pile of deflated LOON skins. He picks one up and stuffs it in his pocket.

WOOT
083 Try and perforate me, will you. You many come in handy some day.

2_03_107
WOOT follows his companions. The LOONS’ lament follows them…

WOOT
Wait up, guys
Rodney
First impression I get is that we have two songs we can incorporate into the Loon sequence.
The first "Wop Them Bop Them" and the second "We Are The Loons".

Both seem to provide interesting and hopefully compatible support for our story.
They are the chant and the song.

One is apparently being sung when our heroes stumble into Loonville.
The other helps carry the story forward and reveals more about the Loons (through dialogue) as we get to know them.
For now the dialogue/lyrics in both are mostly the same.

'We are the Loons' as sung by Niels:
We Are the Loons (Hip Hop)

'Wop Them Bop Them' as chanted by Martin:

(Can't seem to link it but its here: Link )

QUOTE

There is a third element of music present in the script that is similar to and maybe even part of the Loon's chant.
Its the 'Woo Woo Wooing' of the Loons whenever they get excited.
Rodney
Looking for opportune location for our music we next turn to the Roberts (Taylor and Holmen) for advice.
Their animatics and the storyboards give us great insight into the character of the Loons.

Breaking these down futher will take awhile and is at the heart of this process.
Rodney
It has been so long since I saw the animatics its like looking at them again for the first time. The wonder of it continues as I see Robert Taylor's animatics fully support the transition from the woods to the opening sequence of the first Loon song.

The hip hop nature of "We are the Loons" would fit in nicely here but need to be distilled to the beat of drums/instruments as our heroes enter.

Here's the lead in up to the point of hearing the drums and discovering the Loons.
The song has begun...
Rodney
I'm out with the family for the afternoon but you can bet I'll be thinking about Loons.
Dhar
QUOTE(Rodney @ Feb 3 2007, 11:48 AM) *

Don't you dare! Your family deserves your full attention. Don't even think about animation. You can never replace precious moments with the family.

Now you tell me!

Thanks Dhar for always helping me keep things in perspective. smile.gif
Rodney
It becomes more and more apparent that these Loons aren't all there. (especially King Bal at the beginning!)

The evasive nature of pinning the character of the Loons down suggests this may be by design.
They are creative and talented and subject to the pitfalls of human nature not unlike we are.

As the Seven Dwarves of 'Snow White' were born with characteristics that compeled them so too it would appear are the Loons.

Lets examine the song to see what we can see shall we?

(Chant throughout the whole song)
Wop them, bop them, pop them,
Wop them, bop them, POP them,
Wop them, bop them, POP them.

We are the Loons, and we're really tough,
Don't fool with us because we can get rough,
They even describe what they are willing to do
We'll pull on your toes, and tweak your nose,
We'll twist your hair, and make you stare,
Until you yell, "Enough!"

We are the Loons, and we know why you're here, They see others potential actions through their own
You want to stretch us, and bend us, and pull on our ear, They can be stretched and bent. They have ears
You may think you're clever but we know what you'll do, They think they are far more clever
You'll wop us, and bop us, your goal is to POP us, Popping isn't fatal to a Loon but it apparently hurts the ego. Its humiliating... and deflating.
So we'll do it first to you.
Sure are defensive little guys aren't they? They've had visitors before.

We are the Loons but we're not buffoons, They see themselves as united...especially while singing, chanting...wopping and bopping. They are at least mildly aware that they aren't in the norm. They are Loons... and therefore of superior material
You come in the morning, and you won't leave by noon,
You'll mess with us, guess with us, you'll even dress with us, Wish fulfillment?
Others have tried but they have been tied, More proof that they have been visited before
Just like we'll do to you.

So, what did I learn? Um... still working on that. tongue.gif
At first blush it seems like the Loons continually play a game of Wop Them Bop Them with each other and any visitor that comes along. Its not much of a life... but its fun.

Any insight from Frank L. Baum?
Rodney
Picking up where we left off... We'll explore a little futher.
Here's an attempt to use words to paint the picture.

Even before our heroes see the Loons they hear them.
This presents both a problem and an opportunity.

What best to have heard audibly as the scene ramps in?
The Loons are singing to themselves.

My first thought would be to start with the last verse first.
There are many reasons to do this but from the Loons perspective? They sing the same song... over... and over... and over.

But why? (I think the story is revealing itself)

Our heroes are introduced to the Loons via a song already in progress.
For how long have they been singing? Only the audience can say.
So we begin with the end but mostly as beats:

(At first the words are not entirely audible or understandable)

We are the Loons but we're not buffoons,
You come in the morning, and you won't leave by noon,
You'll mess with us, guess with us, you'll even dress with us
, <The beat gives way to lyrics.>
<Fade in Lyrics>

Others have tried but they have been tied,
Just like we'll do to you
. Wooo!

(Now, at last...with the Woo of the Loons which we'll hear again later... we see the Loons for the first time)

We are the Loons, and we're really tough, (Buffa Loon tries his best to look tough)
Don't fool with us because we can get rough, (Biggie Loon holds up Sally Loon. Sally Loon smacks his nose which reverberates)
We'll pull on your toes, and tweak your nose, (The fairest of all the little Loons gets a beauty treatment)
We'll twist your hair, and make you stare, (A new hairdoo. She primps... they stare at her Loonish beauty... enraptured)
Until you yell, "Enough!" (Little Sally Loon pantomines that she's fine... she's finished... then points to the center of their circle)

It appears we are witnessing a rite of passage for two little Loons... we'll call them Widdle Woon and Sally Loon. The little Loons appear to be filled with helium and must be held down via string, unlike the other mature Loons which seem to have some control over their bouyancy.

We are the Loons, and we know why you're here, Bubba Loon points his spear accusingly at Widdle Woon. Widdle Woon tries not to laugh.
You want to stretch us, and bend us, and pull on our ear, SF Loon (think skinny farmer) and FF Loon (think fat farmer) go into their antics.
You may think you're clever but we know what you'll do,(More antics from the the Bro Kin brothers doing a 3 stooges bit with Widdle Woon now at the center of attention.)
You'll wop us, and bop us, your goal is to POP us, (Widdle Woot manages to dodge all attacks easily. On the word 'Pop' he shoots skyward.)
So we'll do it first to you. (Widdle Woon's string is grabbed and he's brought back down. He frowns... the game is over.)

(Widdle Woon is now being dressed for the occasion and he's none to happy about it.)

(As Widdle Woon is getting dressed up and the song is still being sung the lyrics fade and Tin Woodman, Scarecrow and Woot dialogue takes over.)

Scarecrow: (to TW) "What strange manner of creatures are they?"
Tin Woodman: (inaudibly) "mouthing the words "I'd like to find out". <no dialogue!>
Scarecrow: (loudly trying to hear over the beat) "What did you say?"
Tin Woodman: (louder) "I said..."

Music stops.
All Loon eyes and attention are on our heroes.

Tin Woodman: "...I think we're about to find out."

Note: I don't have the script presently in front of me so not entirely sure of TW, SC dialogue.

Additionally:
The introduction of Widdle Woon accidentally brings an earlier idea back in play.
If we should so choose to follow that path Widdle Woon would accompany Woot to Yoop's castle.
A story hook that doesn't have to be explored in the movie but perhaps he's an adventurer too?

END: 'The Secret Rites of the Loons' treatment

Next up: The Loons initiate our heroes in the same fashion

No feedback here one way or the other so... perhaps another treatment?

Looks great to me. Visually, I think you've got it all down. Sounds great to me too!

Though I prefer the chant more (reminds me of Tim Burton/Danny Elfman thing)
The song (reminds me more of ghostbusters)

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm not the song writer I'm just trying to help fit it in. smile.gif

There are several aspects of the script that I need to reinvestigate.
For instance, Does a Loon-skin/Loon still fit into the Yoop Castle sequence?

If it does now would be a good time to take a look again at how the Loon/Loon-skin gets there.
This may have been decided long ago but most of us weren't involved in those discussions.

Ken is still blocking out these scenes so we want to keep him in the Loon loop.
I plan to download whatever is there on SVN related to this sequence and have a look.

From what I remember, Woot picks up the perforated loon skin and puts it in his pocket(?).

Edit: From what I've blocked so far there is no "what's that" scene to indicate that the group has heard the loons. When they stumble upon Loonville (and see the loons), they exclaim "In the name of Oz" and we get lots of shots of the Loons doing activities. Then they see the group looking at them. Then they grab them and bring them down to their village.
My instinct would be to have them singing the song as they do these activities and save the surprise till they are seen. Hearing them before sort of "softens the blow".

Finally, when the group are caught then we get the chanting of "Wop them, Bop them".

Yup. Thats where the discussion started way back when and I believe it still rests there now. tongue.gif

Robert Taylor was going to investigate the possibility of having a little Loon stow away in Woot's backpack and show up to save the day later. I had championed that idea as a possible story arc but not sure its going anywhere.

The good news is that having Woot pick up the Loon-skin should be pretty simple to do.

The 'What's that' comes earlier (perhaps you aren't blocking any of our heroes chopping their way through the brambles).
The animatic has it pretty clearly defined. They hear the music (beat?) and while investigating stumble into Loonville.

I posted the boards from the animatic in this discussion.

The boards (and some of the drawings in the animatic) seem to indicate it is night. It's not.
Perhaps its just really dark in these woods. <insert shrugging shoulders here>

I had a look at the script, but I can't see where it says they hear the loons before they see them. I can only go by the script for blocking.

Its in the animatic. To my knowledge the script doesn't account for any music/songs.
This is the 4th time I've been involved with integrating a song into TWO and at least there is one there to begin with this time.
You'd think that'd make this process a little bit easier. biggrin.gif

As they are sure to hear a few beats of any song that is being drummed as they are on approach I'll leave it to the music masters to convince you.

I agree that you need to follow the script so feel free to seek grand poobah level acknowledgement of the intros importance (or lack thereof) in the script. As no lipsync will be required (for the song) it'll work well within the layout you are establishing either way. (i.e. its important but all this rather a moot point)

Someone call in the maestros! Time for them to earn their keep syncing songs to scenes.
You don't want to leave this up to me. wink.gif
