4. When you have the parts you need checked, press ok, on the repository browser, and the options panel.
5. Then it will bring up a dialog asking you for your forum sign in name and password. Instead email willp@hash.com and give him your forum user name and a password you want to use for svn. (We haven’t had time to tie it to the forum login yet)
6. Then it will bring up a dialog asking you where to ”check out” from. Press ok to download the data to the folder you specified. (Don’t change any info here unless you know what you are doing).

So, I'm trying to get everything installed on my dad's PC instead of my mac, and I already have v. 13 beta 4 downloaded and I also have tortoise svn setup. Anyways, as I follow the svn walkthrough and go to the movie tab I don't get the receive button, so instead I get to the repository URL button through the tools menu. After I select the Shard Data, Libraries, and my scene and click "ok" twice as instructed... nothing happens. I made sure that the enable svn box was checked. Does anybody know where I went wrong? I have to tell you I'm getting use to PC's again, so I'm not exactly sure what to do? If anybody needs a screen shot of something if that would help, I could do that, but I don't know what keys it is for a PC.
Anyways, if anybody gets a chance to help me, I would greatly appreciate it! smile.gif
Thanks, Teresa
Rodney
Teresa,
I'm sure you did this but just in case...

Make sure your restart A:M.

I had the same problem with the missing Send and Receive buttons.
Then one day... BAM! It was just there.

Don't know how it started working for me. It just did.
Kelley
Can't solve your major problem, but if you want a screen capture on a PC, just hit the 'Print Screen' button. That will copy to the clipboard. Then Paste into any imaging program like Photoshop, Corel, etc. At the very least you can use the Paint program that Windows keeps in Start>All Programs>Accessories>Paint.
TeresaNord
Cool, the Update and Commit buttons appeared today. (thanks Rodney)

I still have trouble opening _2_01_10a though, I don't know why (something about the scarecrow bedroom proxy). Maybe I'll try loading and opening something else to make sure that everything but that scene is working properly for me.

PS- I can't believe how fast you can select the scene you want on the Repository URL with a PC, amazing.
TeresaNord
Could somebody else who knows what they're doing try to open _2_01_10a for me? Pretty please. I need to find out if it's the scene that's the problem or if the problem is me. On both of my computers the scene won't open because of some unresolved conflict. Rhett and I tried to resolve it a couple weeks ago, but for some reason that didn't seem to work for me. I think svn is working ok on both of the machines I've tried it on. My mac now has svnx and the pc has tortoise svn, neither will open that scene though. Ok, well, I guess I better go. Any help or suggestions of how to go about this hurdle would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

THANK YOU RHETT, YOU'RE A GENIUS!!! I think it'll work this time!

Hey! Clue us in here. If Rhett is being a genius again we definitely need to know more about it. biggrin.gif
TeresaNord
Oh, sorry Rodney! smile.gif
Rhett is brilliant and walked me through the terminal and text edit programs (which I didn't know how to use or even that they existed) to help me locate the errors in my .cho files and then when I found em I sent the files to him to be fixed.

There was an uresolved conflict in the Choreography file and I just went though it and pulled out the tags that were corrupting the file. I might have gona about fixing it the hard way, but as long as it works, right?
Rodney
Rhett,
So you've mastered the arcane art of SVN file conflict resolution?
That does take some pretty serious genius from what I've seen.

(Useless aside: I know SVN is designed and optimized for multi-user collaboration but I wonder how it might be used to deconflict incremental file updates on a single machine with one lone animator. Hmmmm...)

It looks like Hash Inc made a really great choice with SVN.
Go Rhett! smile.gif

TeresaNord
Rhett- I put the cho file on the desktop so when I updated svn it would be replaced like you said, but when I hit recieve I don't think it's updating, becauseI have the same problem as before (which shouldn't be happening). So it looks like maybe the problem is something about svn not updating my current files or something. I dunno, but I'll work on it later today if I get a chance after school and work.

Edit-
Ahhh, I signed out of the community panel and A:M unexpectedly quit, Exception #023 Socket Error in Stream, I get the same error message now every time I try to sign in?
My computer is screwy dry.gif .....or its operator laugh.gif

What about if you do an update through SVNx or Tortiose. i don't know if it's still the case but for a while , at least, A:M needed a few clicks of the "Receive" button to update all your selected directories.
Dhar
Or, if it's already been committed, revert your file. That should revert it back to the last updated file. Me thinks.

This is probably meant that the community server needs to be rebooted.

I just updated and put svnx on my mac, and I just put Tortiose on my pc. I haven't had a chance to try to load the scene on the pc yet (i'm at school and i'm trying to write this reply before quota time kicks me off again). I'll try clicking 'receive' multiple times when I get home. (yesterday i had to push it a lot on the pc to get it to load)

Can you right click the file on a mac and tell it to commit or revert, like you can on a pc? (I saw people committing files like that at the hash bash) I don't get those options though when I right click the file on my mac. Is this normal?

Cool, thanks Noel, so it's not just me, that's great news! smile.gif

Yes that's normal. Tortoise makes those options available from Windows Explorer windows. On a Mac you have to do it through SVNx. SVNx has a pretty clever Working Copy browser that scans an SVN-managed directory and sets apart files that are different from the most current revision. It's opening scan can take a long time, however, depending on how many files are in the directory (TWO doesn't have enough to make this a problem). Select the file you want and you can update, commit or revert it independent of other files.

You could make an Automator script that would appear in your Finder's right-click menu but I find it more convenient to just go through SVNx.

Looks like there were some broken links too.
TeresaNord
Just thought I'd give everyone an update, but for Rodney mostly, because Rhett was brilliant AGAIN....We worked over Skype just now for about 1 hour and 45 mins. and he got me up and running this time!!!!! I'm so excited, now I can animate on TWO!!!! We went through svnX and reconnected a lot of broken links. Anyways, thanks Rhett!
I am eternally gratefull! biggrin.gif (I wish there was a little green alien squeaky toy picture)
