The one I directed you to is the same method just in a newer version of AM
cuboos
ok thats cool to know but how come i cant get it to work
johnl3d
did you try my project ?
if not try that first

otherwise try something simple

make a material that is red
apply it to a material effector
put thom in a chor and have material effector touch him
where it touches should turn red

Post your results

here's a v12 version

wireframe with 3 material effectors

hmmmm i think i know what i did wrong in the tutorial it said i had to change the aim to somthing but i asumed it ment the role cause i cant find the aim can you point out the aim? and i'll see if i right when i get home
johnl3d
Aim is really the rotation angle of the material effector
If you set up material to start from right to left then by rotating the material effector you can get it to work left to right or top to bottom etc.
By changing the scale in the material effector setting you can adjust the results of the material effect also. I'll try to get a tut out this week

johnl3d
just a quick example

shape and material effector did not move but rotated effector and scaled it as the frames increase

could have some use

Your material was fine you just were using it incorrectly for the model . I rearranged a few things and then added another idea. On the qt you can see a cube burn using your material with a pose slider. This makes an alternative to the material effector that effects everything it touch as you noticed the ground change in your test. I then used your material with the effector to burn thom out of existence. ohmy.gif
Your material is made to work from the direction left to right.
