I am looking at the scenes in Act 1 Seq 2 and I think I have a little problem. I have some scenes using a model called tincastleproxy-b and some others using a model called drawbridge. These are the same things, except drawbridge is pretty much just the front of the castle / drawbridge area.

Is drawbridge a valid file to keep using? Should only use one or the other?

Well ,

...for the "tincastle-proxy1b.mdl", I don't know why it is located there in the final castle folder:
data\Shared Data\Models\Set_chors\Tinmans Castle\final castle\tincastle-proxy1b.mdl

it should be into the castle proxies folder ??? :
\data\Shared Data\Models\Set_chors\Tinmans Castle\proxies

Jody if you can would you move it to the proxie?

*proxie into proxies dir
*final set into final dir

--------------------------
tincastle-proxy1b.mdl
This is an overall outside castle proxie...good for the opening scene to the castle.
Jody have just finish a better castle proxie...hope it will be available into the PROXIE folder wink.gif

-------------------------
drawbridge.mdl:
data\Shared Data\Models\Set_chors\Tinmans Castle\proxies\drawbridge.mdl

The drawbridge.mdl should be use for scene in front of the door
Maybe a better proxie should be extracted from the recent castle proxie Jody has made ???

For the final drawbridge setup , it should be extracted from the final outside castle...

BTW maybe we can do this step now ? what do you think Jody ?
Someone would take the final drawbridge for detailed texture and color ?

------------------------

about the SVN files:

Jody, I want all outside castle related files into his outside castle directory if possible
data\Shared Data\Models\Set_chors\Tinmans Castle\final castle\Outside Castle

If we extract the drawbridge from the outside castle , we should put it into a new drawbridge final directory too .

Jody, I can do those move if you wish, but I prefere that you do it, so you stay tuned with the SVN in your local repository etc.

keep me posted on this important issue wink.gif
Not as important as our defeat again Carolina Hurricane but...

Thanks for looking at this Al. I agree that it should be fixed now so that when we start swapping models for renders, we aren't surprised.

How are you dealing with the different locations, elevations when animating to a proxie of a different set?
For example, you have a proxie drawbridge--yet the drawbridge is part of the main castle. Is the drawbridge located in world space where it would be on the final castle (very high on the Y-axis)?
Or is the choreography that is animated at the proxie drawbridge going to be inserted into the final castle set and translated to the proper position before rendering???

I'm looking through the chors now. These were setup in a dark time, when the animators just went and pulled in whatever they needed and put them where ever they wanted. So, the various set pieces are not in any consistent spot from chor to chor.

Anyway. These scenes seem to have been setup so that wherever the set (either model I mentioned above) is placed, the actors were placed accordingly. We're hoping that the proxie and the final swap out without a lot of need for repositioning the actors (obviously).

As far as rendering goes, that's an area that probably needs to be looked at, as in what do we need to be doing at this stage so that rendertime isn't a cluster of reverse engineering chors?

Okay, here's the skinny.

I built the new proxies directly off of the final set. These now use an action to assemble everything to keep the clutter down to a minimum in the choreography.

Next, the drawbridge I have in the 'Outside' folder is just the drawbridge model with the dynamic chains on it. I had an old proxy for the drawbridge that removed a lot of geometry from the chains without simply erasing them.

I will move all the '_proxy' files to the proxie directory if that's what you want. Any changes like this are easily done at this stage.

As to the overall naming convention. I went to non-versioned names now as we are getting close to actually using them for more animatics and finals.

If this is all confusing... join the club. I was banging my head on the wall trying to find a middle ground so as not to completely mess up the animators while providing an easily swapped out set.

Currently, if you have the proxy project open (new one I just put up), you only need to import two files. The final hill model and the final assembly action file. Then in choreography, simply change the shortcut for the proxy hill to the final hill. Delete the proxy assembly action and drag and drop the final assembly action on the final hill shortcut in the choreography. This will swap out ALL of the models that are action objects in the assembly action. After that, simply remove all the proxy models that you don't need from your project.

If I missed the mark, just let me know the changes needed. I can always go through the shot projects and update the proxies for if you wish Paul. (Yes, keeping everything lined up with the old set locations)
