Hey Everyone,
I saw that someone posted a request for a Lightning Tutorial and I threw this together very quickly....Excuse all the "Uhmm...Ahhh...Ohhh..."
This was totally on the fly, but you get the point.
Lightning TutorialThis is for beginners and uses Render as Splines to simulate the lightning bolt.
Cheers,
Eugene

Well, you learn something new every day - I would never have guessed that animating the randomness over time would result in a smooth change.
You should file an AM:Report for the Glow's non-appearance in the Surface Properties when Render As Lines is set.
For an off-the-cuff, unplanned demo, that was pretty good!

Gene the glow would make a difference and varying the line width but good for a quick tut

Cuboos,
Give the tutorial a try and you should post an example of your efforts when you are done.

As long as the file isn't too big (I think 1Mb is the limit), you can upload directly to the forum.

I don't know what settings you are using, but I typically use Quicktime with Sorenson 3 Codec (it's in the Render options).
Also, you should check at what resolution you are rendering at. Choose the "Low" setting in the Render options and that should also keep the file size down.
Finally, how long is your animation? This I can't help you with, but usually just a few seconds is plently.
If that still doesn't work out for you, simply post a jpg image of one frame.
Cheers,
Eugene

Nice sound effects!
If you have Photoshop Elements 2 you can build animated GIFs in the Save For Web option (I guess the full Photoshop has this too). Otherwise, there's probably a zillion shareware GIF animators - see such web libraries as Tucows.

Awesome tutorial, but I only have two questions.
I have AM 2003 and I've been looking but I can't find "Ambiance Colour" do you know if it's under another name or somewhere else? If not it's no biggie.
The other is how do I end it to a .mov file like you did? I did "Render Animation Preview" and chose a destination, gave it a filename but then it gives me the error "Unable load file []." when I try to save it.
Oooh, for once I do something that looks cool and I can't show it of!!
I really hope you can help me on this.
