Attached is an image of the tree panels with the cast shadows (sun).
Each tree is made up of only 2 panels. Image sizes are a little large by my standards (about 1 mb each) and are all 500 pixels high.

These render very quickly, 1.5 minutes for 16 passes (all these trees are in one chor).

I have tweaked the alpha channels to get a reasonable balance between edge quality and cleanliness.

The images are suitable if we decide to use tree hair.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,
David

I like --I'm definately in favor of tree hair. The Art directors(?) may wan't more cartoony trees... Which could be rendered from a tree model for use in the emitter

Dave's tree set would be nice for background and distant forest isn't it ?

Will , a good plan for most of the trees...I'll let the final modeler to deal with that and texturer would be welcome to tweak and improve this aspect...
Are you open for that ? and when would you be available for this kind of work ?

Thanks
Al

Will,
I was thinking they might want more cartoony trees also.
This was something I could do within my skill set, and had been planning on doing anyway.

I tried some of these as tree hair and they worked well (the feathered alpha works really good).
Thanks,
David

What about a photoshop filter to make them more cartoony looking?
alweb
David sent me his tree files.
I'll post it in the SVN asap...today

It'll be free to you to try and update that tree folder...
final modeler will tap that resource for their work

I would like to have Paul work on tree /forest in that same place
I'll put David tree under /prop/tree/david_tree
...So we can add /paul_tree etc
That way we keep trace of who's done what about tree...

Hi, Al.

Are you not being kept informed?
I am unable to continue working on TWO at the moment for a number of reasons. I don't have access to the SVN so I can't post there or receive files from there.

You all seem to be doing a great job though! Keep it up. :-)

Ah ! of course I understand, without V13 it not possible to go very far...
I must confess that I don't follow every thread...since a while...maybe a couple of years ? wink.gif

If you want to put your trees and forest work available to TWO
I would be please to post it to SVN for you.

Of course once loaded in V13 it would be hard for you to work on it
But if you want you can still do stuff in V12 , we would take care of update and touch-up

People can make nice, valuable work , even if it not in V13?
Isn't it ? or I've put my feet on my mouth ?

Any forum link to your previous work on tree?

Thanks a bunch

Al

You have done very nice sets ! and cool nature!

Will,
Aren't you concerned about hair Jump?

It seems everytime I try to use tree hair, it ends up jumping during the render (render farm).
Adding slaves later in the process Exacerbates the issue as well.

Just wondering.

BTW seeing as how Colin has thrown his hat in the ring, should we do an A:M users meeting anytime soon?

TWO was set up to iron out these sorts of problems....amongst other things.

I was looking at this problem last night.
With 'Face Camera' turned off the hairs should not move but they appear to do so in some places. Now I am not sure if it is moving or we are witnessing something else.

I made a simple hill from a few patches and populated it with very wide hair of various lengths and set 'bow' to 0. I set 'face camera' to 0% and then turned the model around to view it in realtime. As the hairs came closer to the picture plane it could clearly be seen that they were being cropped and the hair guides would suddenly appear to jump. This is very similar to the cropping that you can see in displacement mapped geometry.

Al, I will sort out some trees for you but they will need more work to make them useable. I kept running into brickwalls and never found a good solution. I was hoping that one of the great talents around here would step into the ring with a good solution. You should already have a number of the trees that I sent to Bob though.

Thanks Paul,

I haven't found any trees on the SVN yet(only David'S set )
...and don't know what's happened with those you sent to Bob.
If someone know where they are.?
...please regroup everything you got under the prop/ tree tab on the SVN.
Put your files into folder with your name on so we can give the appropriate credit and working time

If it's not too big Paul, you can post your tree sample and stuff right here, we will upload to SVN for you.

I remember some nice tall pine tree proxie on some blocking anim...any clue where they are located ?
I would like to get them into SVN tree directory.

I'll extract mine too ,those I've built for the ku-klip workshop proxie and make them available to SVN asap...

That way everybody who want to work on that , would be able access other's work .

Thanks
Al
