Sorry guys, a bit of a noob in the Radiosity/IBL/HDRI field, but i've been parusing everyones lovely posts and progress on the subject from some time. You guys are getting some fantastic results!

So... in my foolish mind I thought it would be cool to tinker with the new Ambient Occlusion and IBL. I slapped one of my V12 models into V13 and started letting her rip.

Near as I can tell from all the posts on the subject. One finds an HDR Light probe file online somewhere (or makes it them self with HDRI shop) Brings this into AM, Then under Global Ambiance Type, selects Image Based Lighting. Then under Environment Map you select your HDR file. And then change the Mapping Type to Light Probe. Somehow I don't feel like this is what i'm supposed to do.. but this is what i've gotten from post gleaning....I've added a single real light aside from the ambient occlusion which is set to cast shadows.

Sooo then let her render... 30 minutes later the results are interesting, but my usage isn't particularly ground breaking. I think a similair effect could be achieved with normal raytracing methods. Is this how it is supposed to work?

Yes. That's the way it is supposed to work.

Ah Thanks for letting me know i'm on the right track! Now I just gotta figure out how to use it better! Thanks for working on all these cool tools for us Yves smile.gif It's very interesting how it has the sort of "color bleed" exhibited by radiosity....this is going to be fun expirimenting with.
