I'm rereading the Osipa book and found this quote, page 111, concerning modeling for a mesh layout that works with his pose/interface (our FACE) poses:
"The default shape is the most imprtant shape. Everything in this whole book - all of these shapes, all of the setups - will not work if you do not adhere to the rules laid out here for the default shape. The reason is that we'll be using additive shape animation, the default type for most software. Additive shape animation is very powerful, and can also sometimes be very difficult to control. Take note of the list of rules for the default shape, and do your best to make sure your character follows them.
Your layout, as fig 6.4 (in the book) shows, absolutely must have:
1. Circular rows all the way into the mouth (I assume he means "around")
2. A bored expression/expressionless mouth
3. A closed mouth
4. Lips that continue from the outside of the face and turn inwards to the mouth"
I haven't looked at many of the TWO models yet, but I hope we are close to meeting these requirements! I modeled the sample pose mesh according to his layout, so if you are curious about what he's talking about in this quote take a look at that mesh.
If you can get a copy of this book, I highly recommend it.
