So I thought I'd better start another thread for my Oz map, and thought this would be a good place.
I'm hoping that a use for this map will find it's way into the movie. robcat2075 had the idea of maybe having an unrolling scoll with the 3D map on it. My idea was to use the pic, when finished, as a link to concept art, character pics, short ani tests, etc... on the TWO website (when that comes). By clicking on, for example the Tinman's Castle, it would bring up work and characters from that area of the movie.
Since my last post of this map I have added a reflectivity map, The Emerald City, and The Yellow Brick Road. All civilization details will also be added with displacement and normal mapping.
Rendered with AO sampling at 15%, other AO setting at 100% With two lights.
Displacement: 2500%
Normal: 150%
I thinks that's it for now.

there's a point in KuKlips Workshop where he has to explain where chopfyt went off to. Originally, when i was doing that scene i had him using a Powerpoint presentation, but i think a magical map is more appropriate.

Added snow to the mountains, but I don't really like the look, so I'm getting rid of the snow -- except the snow on "Snow Mt."

On one or two of them it looks good though. All the mountains seem of similar height. I wonder if you can vary the sizes.....easily?

Mabe some more trees will give it a better look....or are we already planning that?

I was thinking of varying the height of some of the mountains, but I have to paint every detail in *sigh*. I will probably end up doing it anyway

Hi. This map would not be used for the actualy terrain of Oz, just as a 3D map. The map is based off of an early map of Oz, made by somebody I don't know, some time ago, haha. So the only other trees I'll be making are where Loonville is.
Speaking of the map. Anyone know where Winkieville is compared to The Tin Man's Castle? I can't find it on any of the maps that I have of Oz.
Here's the last render without the snow.

You can use the dodge and burn tools in Photoshop to raise or lower the mountains.

Yes, I know, that's what I was meaning by "paint"

. That's still going to take awhile to get it just right.

Perhaps you've already seen this but here's a map with "Winkie Country" on it.

http://www.hash.com/users/ed/temp/oz/2.jpgHey Robert, Yeah, that's the map that my map is based on. I just can't seem to find Winkieville (Where Woot starts from) on the map.

BUMP
...because its cool, perfect for the TWO Game and was rather hard to find.
If someone can point me to the other v13 displacement thread of the same I'd appreciate it.
Kudos to Zaryin for making such a great map.
Thanks!

Thanks Zayrin,
If you ever find yourself with some extra time I'd like to work with you to create a simple(!) mockup of how the map might be used in game play for the TWO game. I expect you might be still working on the map but the mockup need not have a lot of detail to convey the possibilities.
What you say?

Hey Rodney, I just saw your post. I must have missed it here. WHat exactly would you need?
Rodney

Zaryin,
You must be pyschic.
I've been working with your older map... trying to make it work...
No deal.
Is the map available via SVN?
I attempted to make a clickable flash/map today and it works but it'd work a lot better if we could manage the sections of the map better.
This is more for fun than anything at this point but who knows it could turn into something.
Lets see where did I put that poor attempt...
Zaryin

No it's not available that way. I don't even know how to work SVN so that might be a lot of trouble. Anyway else I can get you a larger version of the map?

My email readily accepts attachments.
I'll send back any edits to you but imagine I would mostly just hide parts and render.

Thanks!

Do you want the color and the displacement, or just the displacement?

Rodney, before I send, do you want the psd files, or just the targas?

Send me them all and I'll keep them grouped together.
Then if I adjust anything it'll be easier to know what I changed.
BTW - Thanks! This is very much appreciated.

).

Rodney, I can't send the color psd. in the mail. It's just way too big -- even zipped. Sorry about that. If you can think of a way for me to get it to you...
Rodney
Apr 9 2006, 07:23 AM
Thats okay Jeff. If I find I need it I'll put in a request.
I just recieved 3 files so I assume the color PSD was a fourth?
Is it okay if we continue working with the Map by posting here?
What I'm really thinking of is setting up some illustrations for the TWO Game and as detail is needed we could press on for more detail for the TWO movie.
Thanks again for the map decals.

Sorry it took me so long to reply Rodney. i am having serious problems with my internet connection right now. For some reason I can get through right now so I am posting a reply really fast before it goes out.
Sure work on it here. Let me know if you need anything and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
