This is a still image of the project i'm working on called White Devil.
WD TEASERHere is a teaser trailer of the film. By all means criticize. I'm aware of the stiffness of the model and still having problems with the assignment of the bones.
If anyone wants to help flesh out the shoulder joints and the hips joints would be greatly appreciated. In fact if anyones bored I could use help here and there on the project.
I will be posting more updates as time passes by.
Also check out the link below for a description of the film.

Off to a nice start
I noticed when the camera was spinning around the character his mouth has some weird creasing at the edges of this lips which is really distracting, try and rework the splines to clean that up if you can.
Add some eyebrows too

The screenshot above looks great, that scene should have been worked into the teaser somehow.
Continue to post more!

heh yeah you caught the eye brows...or lack there of. Already worken on it. The mouth crease is a pain in the bum. Iv'e tried reworken the splines but no difference in the results... ill keep tryen

put up a wireshaded pic of his face and maybe we can help smooth him out a little.
There were a few weird lumps or dips in his jacket. Was that intentional? I'd get rid of it myself.

Here are the photos of Devs face.
Also i'm aware of Devs jacket. It was done on purpose, but only as a test, Iv'e had mixed comments about it, but personally I'm not sure if I like the rough bumps myself. I'm thinking about making a texture usen soft grey shades to give the jacket a worn look. Any other ideas?

I highlighted the trouble spots that jumped out immediately. Joining 5 splines together at 1 cp will always cause a crease. Creating a 4 pt patch -or- 5 pt patch where one spline just kind of dead ends into it will also cause a crease. Splines need to have a sense of flow to them. This is a major difference for people that come from polygon programs. You can do that kind of stuff and not have it wig out in the renderer. Not so here.

Adding 1 or 2 more spline rings around his mouth will probably kill the crease you have there.

Oh I'm well aware of those creases, but with the way I shade the character it doesn't show up at all. The only problem that shows up is when I rotate the character a faded black line appears between the cheek and the lips. I'll work on the trouble spots anyways to see if it makes a difference, but the problem spots you highlighted still won't fix the cheek/lips problem.
Click the trailer link on the first post and watch the part where the camera spins around the character, you will see it clearly.
[attachmentid=13197][attachmentid=13198]
Here is the face model without the toon shade. You can see the creases right underneath the cheek.
And here is another with the toon shade. The toon shade hides all the creases on the face, but when you rotate the head the faded black line under the cheek appears.

Here is the full body shot. However it's still not done. Some things still need to be tooned out color wise.
Notice her dress has some rough lines runnen through it, i'm currently touching up that problem. Her hair still needs to be addressed to. I'm going to fill it out some more to give it more flow. Then a few more accessories and she'll be done.

Updated model. Finally done. I may add little more details here and there, but basically finished.
For my second human model she turned out alot better then the first. I approached the cell shadeing a little different then that of my first model. This looks so much better. I have decided to go back and update Dev with the new style.
Also thanks to --Luckbat creator of EBON, he has handed over some usefull "How to's" on backgrounds. So hopefully the next room model i'll post will be more along the lines of a toon rather then real.
Peace out.
BTW I am on track (so far) with my first episode. People have asked when it might be done. I'm looking by the end of the year.

Ok HELP!
I've designed this pool of liquid gel, and I want a human body made out of gel to arise from it.
Picture in Terminator 2 the metal guy when he was liquid metal and he reformed into his human state. Something like that.
OR, just haven the body rise from the pool having the gel stretch and break apart from him as he's rising.
I am experimenting with the second method right now usen the cloth wizard. Click on the link for the cheezy example.
Any ideas?... and no, I'm trying to avoid doing it with poses because that would take forever.

That's a real toughy..
try breaking up the shots
First a hand comes out, then switch to a shot with half the body, use particles to drip goop coming off.
Then to a final shot with the character completely out.
AceLK
Feb 22 2006, 12:38 AM
Hmm i tried using particles and I just can't seem to pull off the dripping goo effect, however using your idea haveing multiple camera views, iv'e managed to figure out a way to have the goo look like it's stretching and then break apart as the body is rising. It looks like it might work but will have confirmation when it's finished rendering.
I think people might want to know exactly how I pulled this off (assumen this works) ill post a tut with the prj file.
For now here is a screenshot.
Notice the head... in the Chor section during the animation the liquid stretches then breaks at a point and then the goo reshapes the back and sides of her head. Like I said, i'll confirm this when it's done rendering.
[attachmentid=14620]
Comments anyone?

I'll be posting a face shot later tonight.

This is a post I made along time ago containing information on White Devil. I will paste below.
--------------------------
Posted at 09/05/2005
Ok, for those wanting to know about my cartoon pilot episode "White Devil" keep on readen.
The origin of White Devil was inspired by the japanese anime "Cowboy Bebop". I had several cartoon scripts written up before this one and decided to pursue this to be my first 30 min toon animation.
The first script to White Devil was actually a sequal to the Cowboy Bebop series... upon finishing it, I fell in love with the main character and thought maybe I could profit off the idea...but I can't legally sell White Devil with Cowboy Bebop content in it... I loved the main character so much I decided to rewrite the script and make it a show of its own.
Taken place in the future I decided to place the show on the planet Venus. Based on real theories, I made it possible that Venus could be colonized.
Although I said it takes place in the future (year is not set...2100 's? maybe) the feel of the movie will look like it's in the 1980's mixed with technical advances...such as human cyborgs, holograms, personal space ships etc...yes yes...it sounds like Cowboy Bebop and it's true...iv'e kept alot of the ideas in their that made the series great but trust me, this cartoon is still orginal.
A brief synopsis of the story is about the main character "Dev".
At birth he was abandoned at a monastary(sp?) and raised by a loving nun named Cecilia. When Cecilia first found him as a baby, he had a necklace around his neck with the word "Dev" inscribed onto it (which assumed to be his name). The baby also had a blanket wrapped around him that had a mysterious emblem stitched on it's backside.
Dev growing up begins to believe his real parents left him clues... upon leaving the monastary he ventures out in search for the truth.
When I began work on White Devil 2 years ago, I was hand drawing everything frame by frame. Progress was going slow. 1 person + 10,000 cells = years to complete. I decided to try out 3D, so I bought the program Animation Master at the begining of the year and loving it. I'm taking the project in the 3D direction and will do it with the Cell Shade technique.
I will be posting some images of the show so you can see how i'm progressing.
I am aiming to have a very short trailer available by christmas and the show finished sometime next year.
I'm hoping to build fans along the way for I will need all the encouragement this stressful task is going to give me.
(Add on) The show mixes it up with guns, martial arts, ship flyen and other various action packed fun.
-Thanks all for the support.

The site is boring on purpose... that site is just a temporary (as stated), because the real one is on hold until I find a .com domain to put it up. (just to give everyone a heads up that it's completely done in flash, so have the latest version ready
Second, underneath the photo where it's showing off the new side lights the caption says this

"Ok, i decided to do something a little different with street lights. Instead of hanging over your head like the ones you find in the cities, I decided to have them off to the side and just shoot a soft light across the road.
Now, i'm still working on the lighting effects so don't strain your eyes looken for a beam because it's not there."

Just another photo to throw up.
Iv'e been debating on how I want my backgrounds to look... I really enjoy the look of EBON and have been looking at doing somthing similar, but one day I accidently left "toon" on when I rendered this photo and the background actually looks like it fits with the character.
I know toon rendering slows down things quite a bit, but not as bad as I thought.
I'm not sure if I will go this route...what do you guys think?
*I am however not using "toon rendering" for my character models. With the help of luckbat, he guided me in the ways of non toonage rendering.

Apr 17 2006, 10:45 PM
depends, what version of AM are you running?
in the next v13 beta you'll be able to have multiple lights affect toon'd objects, which means you'll have more control over your scene.
If you use v12 your objects will be restricted to 1 light source.
You may just want to drop the toon shader altogether and use diffuse-0 in combination with toon-lines, get the best of both worlds like you do with your character. Get some consistency goin.
luckbat
Apr 18 2006, 04:01 AM
I think the reason the background toon lines look "right" to you is because you've got such bright, saturated colors. They go well together.
If you want to improve things further, try making the lines on the background objects as thin (or thinner) as the one you use for the characters. You might also play with the "percent of underlying" color setting, instead of using black. (Alternatively, if you're laying in the toon lines in post, as a separate layer, then you could use "soft light," or 67% "hard light," or something similar.)
AceLK
Apr 18 2006, 08:19 PM
Yeah I agree, I think because everything is bright that makes it very interesting to me. I keep trying to invision it in my head to see if it will work overall.
I tried imagining people walking around the city, having a good time while looking in store front windows etc. using these bright colors.
Then I try to imagin all the fighting, which seems fine in my head...
But then I try to imagin everything at night time...thats when I get screwed.
I can't seem to figure out how to transition from day to night and keep the same feel.
I don't even know what the right night time look would be "color wise".
I hope this makes sense. You all see where i'm coming from? Maybe i'll post a night time screenshot soon.
And yeah luckbat, it does make sense to thin the lines out a bit. That render was on accident so I didn't adjust anything for the toon settings. (well , I did now and it looks better

)

Upcoming video of white devil. Should be fairly lengthy when it's complete. Hopefully will be ready by end of july.
The scene takes place in episode 3. The reasoning for this is that I refuse to show anything from the first episode until i'm 100% comfortable with the design of the film. Seems how I don't plan on doing episode 2 & 3, I just figure this scene would be perfect to use for a demo.
So why do it period? Why not just wait till you have the quality up to where you want it to be?
Well, the demo is basically being done "for me". it allows me to sit back and think things over about what i'm looking at and what can be done for improvment. I just decided to share it with everyone else.

Moving sometime in July-Early Aug
This puts me in a corner. I won't be able to complete the next Dev trailer in time, but I should have the Nanyque teaser trailer done by the end of next week.
I have started working on the first scene of the movie, but with all this moving happening and will probably be getting married this year as well (we still havent decided when to set the date), the production of White Devil is going to recieve some delays.
However, I have been in the middle of making some dealings with an animation studio (staff of 30) who is interested in the WD project. When and if negotiations are met, I will be handing over the project to them and I will place myself in the directors chair, which is something i've always planned on doing in life anyways.
I will make sure to keep you all informed and I am still planning on doing this project myself.

Ok, unfortunatly due to time restraints I was unable to touch up anything period. This turned into a rush job and it's not actually too bad. After I move and settle in to my new place i'll probably resume work on it and touch it up even more, redo the effects etc.
Right now i'm busting my butt off to get the next "Official trailer" done before i'm completely moved out.
What is this trailer about?
The trailer is called "Venus Firefly". If you saw the first trailer I posted a long time ago, you would remember a blue lightning bug flying around Dev. In this video you will see the same thing.
The "Venus Firefly" is not a bug, but a nano machien that was designed to filter out Carbon Dioxide and Helium and then to spray out Nitrogen and Oxygen so humans can breath properly on the planet Venus.
They were created by the famous inventor "Gehn Savien".
He designed them to resemble that of a firefly and programmed them only to come out at night. They were also designed to be people friendly and you can find that they hover around people who are sad in attempts to help cheer them up. Later on the people adopted the name "Venus Firefly" and labled it the most beautiful invention Gehn has ever created.
Hope you enjoy-

Well, here is one of two guns that Dev uses.
The image above is missing one minor detail I forgot about, but you get the idea on the overall look.
Dev also owns a Silver plated gun entitled "ACTION" and as you see above the gold gun is labed "RE-ACTION"
Each gun differes from eachother.
The Silver Gun -ACTION (Full Auto) uses metal donut shaped rings which whistle as they fly.
The Gold Gun -RE-ACTION (Semi Auto) Uses a slug shot that causes knock back apon impact.
