Here is the design the new loon are based from.

Just to show that I
have been working on the new loon, here is where I am so far. I didn't give him lips because of the ref, but if you want a bottom lip Bob, let me know.
EDIT: Also, I haven't added the eyelids yet.

Thanks guys.
Here's the finished head. I finished the eyelids, but still left him "bug-eyed". I figure the positioning of the resting pose for the eye lids will put alot into the character. So left him with the "innocent" look of the generic loons. Also game him some spec to make him look more balloon like.

Now, is this a handsome Loon, or one that would have trouble with the babe Loons? Is there such a thing as a babe Loon?

O even a handsome Loon?
Nice modeling as usual

The sketch is abit ambiguous in the chin area. I personally would prefer to see a chin bulge out some. Up to Bob though. Also, his cheeks are bulging, but his mouth isn't smiling so much.
Nice work so far.

Hm... your creature looks a bit scary now with the high specular intensity. I would suggest a very low spectral intensity with a very large specular size. i think a mild specularity would make the characters a bit more loveable... unless these are going to be the antagonists i think you should really make them softer looking.
also... the eyes are also a bit scary, they do protrude a little to far out, and the bulges of skin around them looks like their about ready to pop out.
nice modeling job though.

I think the mouth/lips need to be more bulbous/rounded but other than that it looks the perfect amount of balloonish

Thanks everyone for the comments. I agree with some of them. I think I am going to leave it alone, except for what Jim and Bob tell me to change.
Thanks again, everyone.

Thanks, Paul.
Bob and Jim: Ok, here is the finished body, sans inside mouth (forgot to add it, haha). Proportions are based on King Bal. Height is at 5 ft., because I didn't know how tall to make them. Anything need to be changed? What else needs to be done?

Hi Jeff,
I would lose the indentation at the chest/stomache joint area and give him a big full round body like in the sketch. The sketch also has his head about a 1/3 the size of his body, but your character's head is about 1/4 the size of the body. I think if you make the body shorter and rounder it will fix the proportions difference.
If you can make the cheeks and neck a little chubbier, too, that would be good.
Nice stuff!

Hey Jim, Yeah, I should have stated that the head propertions were based on King Bal and the body was based on the chief. I figured if I built it in the middle it would be easier to change it for the different loons. He wasn't meant to be specifically King Bal. Not yet anyway.
I agree about the neck area, I saw that while I was making it and am trying to tweak it to get it right. I seem to be haveing problems with it. How do you want the cheeks to look? I'll fix the chest area. Just one of those areas I am used to doing something with, even though I knew I shouldn't, haha.
Thanks.

Bob drew the characters, so he knows best what they should look like, but I would like to see the body a little wider/fatter around the waist.

Jeff,
Just wider from the front view. He looks perfect from the side.
Thanks, Kevin and Jeff, about the self portrait. It's a real oil painting on canvas, but I took the picture in bad lighting with a mediocre digital camera, so it's a bit fuzzy. I'll try to get a better picture when I have time.

Think the sides of the neck and head need a little "fattening" up to get rid of that shadowing?
