Full Version: My marker lines have disappeared

I'm using V.12 Yeti which has been upgraded to 12.0q. I actually upgraded just a few minutes ago due to this puzzling problem. I happends in both V.12p and the upgrade.

Here is the deal: I model of a simple tire with just a few splines. Since I want to decal in cylindrical fashion, I made a horizontal and vertical marker. Problem is, they don't show up. I changed views, and some views show the markers, but the front view has nada. Then I selected the model, and as soon I had a bounding box around the model, the markers appear. Deselect the model and the markers disappear again.

So I saved the file and closed down AM. After reopening AM and the file, nothing changed. Still no marker settings. Now I changed from OpenGL to DirectX and back. No difference. Ok, so now I turn off everything and reboot my computer. Guess what, no diff, still no marker lines.

Then I copied the tire model (basically just a few circle splines extruded) and created a new project file. Pasted the tire model and the same problem occurs. Well, last resort - I upgraded to V.12Q. Still no difference.

I suppose someone is going to say, why don't you just start the model over again in a new project. Yeah, I could and then have no answer to this puzzle when it happens to a model that has 1000 cps.

I've had this problem on and off for several versions... back to 10.5.

I am negligent in my reporting... mostly due to not being able to replicate it and also to the very sporadic nature of the occurrences... it didn't happen enough to cause too much trouble.... it usually went away on its own.

I usually report stuff when it happens often enough to annoy me.

I have never been able to figure out any rhyme reason or pattern to what causes this.

I have found that after a "while" it just magically... goes away... or... comes back... meaning the markers return... No explanation.

Eric,
Is there any chance that you are leaving your view when these disappearances occur.
Do the marker lines always show up if you are in a full view (front, back, top, bottom, left, right)?
Do they disappear if you turn a model?
Do they disappear if you go into Birds Eye View?

Answers to those questions might help us track it down.

Thanks

Rodney, to my recollection, the markers are only visible in direct views, right? I don't have AM open right now, but ...Ok, I opened AM. Opened Goosey in front view and made X marker 0 and Y marker 0. Both showed up. Next I hit perspective view and both are gone, as they don't show up in perspective and so far all is right. Back view, ok. Right, left, bottom, all show marker. Now I hit front view again, and the marker is gone again.

In front view (num2), the markers were gone although the arrows on the ruler were there, set to zero. When I switched to back view (num8), they were visible. Side view, visible. Really strange, especially since I tried everything under the sun to get them back. I'm also starting to believe (will do some more tests) that V.12Q upgrade brought back some more of the nuisances of earlier versions. After upgrading from V.12.p last night, I had about 7 of the dreaded cp hops pulling the mesh way askew and about 5 error shut down messages occur. Not a nice experience after such smooth sailing in V.12.p. Btw, the errors and hops occurred in the "Goosey" project I made with V.12.p (no hops or errors) and then continued on in V.12.q (hops and errors.)

If it turns out I can replicate any of the shut downs and hops, I will certainly report them, but in the mean time, if they continue, I will switch back to V.12.p

Update: I just created a new project and made a shere. Added markers, and all showed up even after rotating the model and viewing from all sides. Next I imported Goosey and the markers disappeared again. Obviously the problem has to do with either the complexity of the model or something in particular with the Goosey model itself. Although, I've had this happen with other projects as well, including new ones.

Problem with Goosey file found:

I opened "Goosey" and wanted to select a spline and then lock all others. After locking all others, the spline should have had the unlocked spline color visible, but it showed up locked as well. This lead me to believe that I had locked double cp's covering the selected unlocked spline. I was correct and actually found that I had at some point copied and pasted the whole Goosey body over the original, making it appear as one model. After deleting the double, the markers became visible again.

Fascinating discovery if that is all there is to the problem. Very interesting.
Note to self.

Not solved, my mistake.

After deleting the double splines, I still had a spline of the original model selected which, as stated in previous post, made the markers appear. As soon as I deselect all splines, the markers disappear again.
