Nice start. I'm sure you'll have plenty of direction on this one, so I'll stay stum (is that a word?).

Hi David,
That's a nice head model you got going. It's a bit too realistic for the look we are going for. So I've attached a side sketch of Woot to show the more cartoony style and proportions we want to capture.
Thanks,
Jim

Very nice start. Please post the wireframes for us. The spline layout around the mouth and upper face is very important for making sure it's possible to get the poses we need and to make sure they are going to blend well together.

Here's a new version I was working on. I made the checks larger and widened the nose and mouth. I'll incorporate the profile sketch you posted.

David,
Great job capturing the likeness of my sketch!
I have just a few comments:
I think the inside corners of his eyes are pulled too far back into the head. Try to soften that area around his eyes and nose.
Add a crease or fold to where the eyelid starts.
The ear is probably just roughed out at the moment, but it needs to be a little more accurate. I can send an ear model if you would like.
Define the nostril "thingies" a bit more.
I've attached a marked up image to help show what I am trying to describe.
Thanks, it's coming along very nicely!

I've looked at the ears on the CD characters and Frank Silas' ear tutorial, but I'm still struggling with ears. Could you post the ear model?
Thanks,
Curtis

Here's the ear model. It's not 100% realistic, but it holds up okay.

He's looking great. The only problem I have is that his ears are looking way too similar to the green monkey's. I would make them smaller. Of course, that's just my opinion, I'm not the Modeling Director

Hi David,
I think the cheeks are a little too wide. Can you make them smoothly blend into the rest of the face more, not so bulgy (if that's a word).
I'd also like to see some kind of corner of the eye treatment, by giving the inside and outside corners more of an angle instead of being round all the way around the eye.
Create more of a jawline below the ear and thin out the area behind the ears to allow the neck to flow into the head and connect a little higher.
I've attached a couple images to show what I'm (probably inadequately) trying to describe. The one on the left is an animated GIF. It may take a while to load.
Thanks,
Jim

I did the retouch on another copy in Photoshop and added the tween frames in ImageReady. First time I tried it, so it took awhile, but it's not hard to do.

You nailed it, David!
Looks great!
Can you create some geometry to represent the hair, just so we can get an idea of the total look. You can combine it with the body whenever you like.
Thanks,

David,
WOW! Woot is really personable. There are heaps and mounds of expressive potential in that mesh. The soft round features and the deep eyes really bring out the cute kid that Woot is. I would be interested in seeing what he looks like with some hair applied. The ears may be excessive but they also may be part of that personality that brings him to life.
Excellent work!

David (and reviewing crew),
That is an outstanding character. When he was bald, the ears looked like they could be a bit on the excessive side but I think that they work quite well when the hair is present. The character as a whole has a "farm boy" innocence going on. The ears enhance that "feeling". I understand that this is not a democratic thing with voting for how characters look but I would ask the artistic directors to look twice before toning down ears - they add to the character in my opinion. I also really like how you shaped the upper lip/muzzle area. It accentuates his youth. Very nice work.

One more thought David, the hair on his left looks a little strange you may want to cover the left side part im not sure .Just a note: the hat is going to be expressive with him .You know, on backwards, tilted to the side, brim up etc.cant wait to get him Rigged.Robert H is doing a wonderful job with his voice it fits the character to a tee.

He'll do nicely. Wonderful model David. I hope he's not going to have that backpack for the whole journey. Also, is that hat a different one to the one on the monkey? It might make sense just to use the one.....

Preface: I think Chairoscuro has done an excellent job modeling.
Concern: I feel that Woot is straying from the stylized vision of the film that we switched to when there was all the controversy with the tinman. He just doesn't seem to have the same charicatured quality that the sketch does.I feel he's kind of straying into the uncanny valley of quasi-realism.
I know Bob approved it, and I'm not second-guessing him. I just didn't want to remain silent if it could be improved. If I'm over ruled I won't make a fuss.
cheers,
matt

Ken:Using the same hat is fine with me. I don't care for the one I did.
Bob:I thought the final hair was going to be particle hair and this was just a mockup?
David:The backpack could be shaped different, just do a quick sketch to show what you mean. I was thinking loose so it could have secondary animation.

The leather collar, I assuming would be stiff, poses a problem if I were to bring the backpack closer to Woot's body.

I like this version better, too. As far as I know, we are going to try to use particle hair. At least try anyways. It looks like simcloth is out of the picture, though, so I can't say for sure if particle hair is still an option.

Id like to try to move this wonderful model into rigging today if possible.I assume the back pack is removable and is liable to have dynamics on it .We are trying to rig him next as well as the servant as we are close to handing out layout .

The larger back pack as will and Jim designed it, is actually perfect he's a little boy carrying a big burden.I like that..... very symbolic for the movie.
