Hi,

This works in Panther, because I tested it, but in Tiger I was working on my church scene and did a test render and there were no coloured shadows. I made a small project and tested and I couldn't get it to cast. I followed Yves' thread, if a few settings are changed, I'm really tired. I got my windows quite like how I wanted them too, but not in Tiger. It works in 11.1 Panther and 12.0n+ Panther.

Can a Tiger person try to get this to work?

You need translucency values set for the windows. Also remember not to use solid colors for the stain glass. Use RGB colors that still have elements of red, green, and blue.

Not sure what exactly you mean by tiger and panther... but animation master has a wonderful set of tools for achieving realistic glass. The shadows are based on what color the light passed through, so you may have the transparancy setting way too high... or there may be a problem with your color or transparancy maps. I'd have to look at your project file... but i need to get up in the morning... blink.gif

You may also want to look into caustics. They realy give a lot to a render... i think i'll make some sort of gothic catheadral and render it with caustics. Stain glass as high as the ceiling... OH YA! laugh.gif

Different versions of the Mac OSX operating system. Panther is version 10.3.x, Tiger (the current version) is 10.4.x.

Indeed it does - that's a very nice image you have there!

Hi--
sorry I didn't specify Tiger vs. Panther. Basically, every year Apple tries to make its market share invest in a new cat.

The images are rgb, and I'll check the translucency. In a final render, I got it working again. Now, I have to figure out how I got it working again.

Dan, I've used caustics in other programs, what does it add to render time for A:M? I have to be careful about that.

thanks, S.

I've only used them a few times in A:M, but for the most part it doesnt add much to the render times at all. The only time taker is the initial calculation of the photons, and then its done taking up time. Unlike radiosity where it spreads out its workload through the multipasses and uses final gathering samples and jittering, caustics, once calculated, are set and its quality wont change from multipass to multipass.
