I finally got a start on the rabbit a day or two ago. Here is the original sketch Bob made.
[attachmentid=11275]
I spent a lot of time working out the paths around the mouth/nose area. It's kind of a wierd shape, but I think it will work even in the extreme poses on the character sheet. Are the 5-pt patches on the face a concern? I need to do some reshaping on the nose/muzzle area. He's looking very dog-like right now.

I'm not sure about the Poofy-cheek things--should they be behind the face area (starting behind the eye's and corner of mouth) or extending into the face area as I have them now?
Enough posting--I've got some splining to do!

Swwwweeeeeeeeeeet! That is going to be so fun to animate!

Some more progress. The nose still looks like a dog's. i think I'll move onto the eyes next.

Here's a look at the mouth. All those neat little circles...I love Jason Osipa!
[attachmentid=11285][attachmentid=11286]
And a new view of the smoother, nicer cheeks!

(Frank, I'm looking forward to animating this guy, too!)

Looking REALLY good, Matt! Nice progress.

I agree about the nose looking like a little like a dog's. Maybe you can cheat a little and flatten his nose area/muzzle in a bit towards his face. Otherwise, super!

I think that the nose should be flattened some and more upturned. That would be more "bunny-like" to me. Good job so far.

Very nice start, can't wait to see more. How were you planning to handle the eyelids? Separate geometry? Keep up the good work...
AniMattor
Jim and Richard: I'll be working on tweaking the nose. I'll get somer reference and see what a rabbit's nose looks like But it definitely needs some flattening and shortening of the muzzle overall.

Cosmonaut: I hadn't thought about eyelids yet... I usually make them part of the face gemoetry, but separte pieces would be easier.

KenH
Lovely work! I hope you're saving versions of your model. That's a great nose if you want to do a dog in future.

I hope you make the eyelids as part of the mesh. In fact you could probably make them with what you have there....
agep
Yeah, great model so far smile.gif

I dunno... I like the nose. Rabbits with big noses make me laugh. Remember, we don't have to be anatomically correct: caricature is the name of the game. It's funny, and fine as far as I m concerned. You're doing a beautiful job.

AniMattor
Bob,
Since you like it I'll leave it where it is for now. After I get the eyes finished we can see how it relates to the rest of the face better. I've got plenty of work to do besides fixing what ain't broke. Cheers!

matt

I think the nose in general is okay... yes... it may be ANATOMICALLY dog-like... but... he is most definitely a rabbit... this should not be a problem.

A rabbit has a more pronounced groove down the middle... and the nose continues off the contour of the forehead/snout... but since this rabbit has a pronounced "snout" you won't be able to get that line... unless you "flatten" the nose... which removes some of the cuteness. Since a dog's nose is usually black.. or darker than the rest of him... and a rabbit has a lighter color nose... or pink... that blends in to his body color...

Anyway... quick sketch...

Bob is the Director. There's no higher word than his. So if he says it's fine then it's fine.

Vern, I do like the smaller more upturned nose though. It's cute-er.

Either way it's allll goood.

Oh, I just realized something: you guys don't know this rabbit's actually an avatar. It's really Ozma. You'll see what I did in Act III. Not that that changes anything - if it ever uploads. It's 280 megs. Ha ha ha - poor server........ By the way, you're all correct: I'm just an odd bird.
No, no, not Brad... But Bob - odd bird........

By the way, Frank, please tell that to my wife, she thinks shes the highest power........

280MB in one hit?!
That's probably going to make it very difficult for some to download and impossible for others!
Frank Silas
Please let us know when it's uploaded. I'm on pins and needles. This is soooo great, so fantastic! I can't wait to see it! :-)

OH, and wives are the exception to every rule! That's what my wife tells me! --LOL

Oh!

So, we should be asking her about the Tinman's lower region clothing issues?

Bad idea... she may suggest boxers. I have found that women tend to like boxers... or maybe just the ones I find... the women... not the boxers...

Way off topic!

Actually, Paul and Frank, I'm uploading the entire movie: that's the 280MB, (There are 10 individual parts). You need to watch the whole thing, so when you are animating a scene, you'll know arcwise where your character is in their development. There's lots of gag stuff added, and of course, the crazy Act III itself. I tied all the arcs together with backstorys and endings... I hope thats what I did, anyway: the audience will let us know.

Sorry to bring this post back On-topic....smile.gif

Is there going to be a standard eye design for the characters? I'm just putting a simple one in for now, but I haven't seen any talk about this.
I prefer to use plain old round eyes, instead of oddly shaped ones with a surface constraint to keep the pupil on.

I should have a another WIP later today.

matt
KenH
I've talked about it. I also think it should be sorted asap. We need an official TWO eye. What will the eye's need to do? Dilate is a given I assume.
JTalbotski
I have replaced Tinman's Keekat eye with a standard eye. All the eyes will be alike, even though Tinman's and Tingirl's eyes will be tin.

I am attaching what I used for Nimmee Amee, Tingirl, Tinman and Chopfyt.

I'm not sure what to do for the rabbit. See how they work in his head. They may need to be more cross eyed.

Jim
AniMattor
Thanks. I'll try it out as soon as I can. I built him with a round eye, so as long as it's round it should work fine.

Matt
AniMattor
The modeling is basically done. I ripped limbs from a number of different models on the cd and from my own collection to make it possible, but I think it worked. The tail is temporary. I left the ears facing forward for now, but I'll probably make them face to the sides when I rig his ears. It will give him a better range with less deformation. I have a tongue in him, but not much else in his mouth. Is it detailed enough? Does he need a uvulae and tastebuds? I also just DL the master eye. I'll be popping it in later. The eye in these shots is temp.Do I need to model more detail into the feet? (pads, etc)

If there are no major revisions, I'll go on to making the facial poses next, and then try fitting one of those nifty rigs into him. I haven't used FACE yet, how many poses do I make? I have Stop Staring, does FACE use one of the shape sets from there?

Comments? Crits?

Hi Matt,

Really nice job!

I just have a few minor tweaks, but overall it's great!

The cheeks seem a little too wide if we are going to be putting fur/hair on him/her.

The lower body could be a little chubbier especially the legs. I want him/her to be a little cuter.

Try turning up the nose a tiny bit.

Can you make the toes longer and more rabbit-like instead of round? Maybe just pull the areas between the toes back toward the ankle.

The rabbit looks kind of strung out and lacking sleep with the indentation around the eyes. Can you smooth that out so the forehead and cheeks flow smoothly to the eyes. If those are supposed to be the eyelids, there should be another spline ring around each eye for more subtle definition.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi,

Have you forgot the theet ? or are they hided ?

Nice bunny, Matt! Well done!
AniMattor
Jim I don't know exactly what you mean about his feet. I changed them a bit, but I don't know if I did what you wanted.

I plumped his legs up a bit, but I don't want to do too much. They'll (hopefully) squash out a bit when he crouches down.

Did I get what you wanted in eyes and nose?

Matt,

The head is perfect now, thanks!

It looks like you fixed the feet. Attched is a sketch of what I tried to explain.

As far as I know, without seeing the new animatic, the rabbit acts and moves like a rabbit and should only be thought of as a rabbit during most of it's time on screen. I don't want it to look like a main character or human-like in it's appearance. So I was thinking the legs could look more rabbit like instead of Bugs Bunny-like.

But leave it as it is, unless Bob has any comments about it, because I may be wrong about this.

Thanks for doing such a great job! He's a fun character

Jim
AniMattor
I'll wait until I hear from Bob before changing the legs any more. It's hard for me to know what they'll look like in a "Rabbity" pose when he is in the stretched out rigging pose. I may put in some temp bones to see what the legs look like moving.

Hi Matt
Great Job, Im thinking he could be slightly plumper in the belly and legs would go accordingly but, you know hold it there for now because with the squetch rig we may get enuff in a squash it's a wonderful modelling job ,Post the mesh and let me take a look.
congrats, and happy thanksgiving.

Way too cool bunny!!! great work!

Nice work...maybe I should try to model
AniMattor
Bob,

I've attached the Rabbit so you can look at him.

Thanks for the comments Trajcedrv and JohnL3d. yeah, you should try some modeling!

Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Hey, i stuck a quick rig in the rabbit and just did a super quick jump, its brutal but let me know if this gives you a idea how he moves

I didnt weight the character.

I like the bunny, i think it would be cool to animate him in the movie if given the chance.
kuep
here is a rabbit pose. this is just quick and i just pulled some points to fix it up. it will also depend on the rig and setup if he goes from a human to animal pose. morphing from one to the other.

hope this helps
AniMattor
Nice! That's the first I've seen him move, Kuep. I didn't even put a test rig in him yet. I' think he'll be setup with the Squetch rig like all the other characters. It's bipedal, but it has plenty of flexibility for him to behave like a rabbit.
AniMattor
Here it be! Bob made some tweaks to the proportions and we now have an official Wabbit character. {edit} I've attached the mesh in case anyone wants to try to put in the squetch rig. (I could try myself, but I think someone else would know how to install it better.

Ha, I love that rabbit character. He turned out great. I hope the switch from two to four legs isn't too hard.

I guess that's my job, rigging that is. I'll have something posted tomorrow.
