Finally made some progress now that Ku-Klip is about done. Made a few changes to my model based on the Woot WIP so here's what I've got so far. Working on rendering a hair test as well...

I have yet to model a human head or semi human, but that sure looks good to me. It feels like sketch is coming to life. I'll enjoy checking on your progress. Great job.

Thanks guys, made some more progress, I think I'm going to tackle the hat next (even though that will need to be the same as the woot model).

No problem Bob, hair color is probably the easiest thing to change.

Looks nice! one suggestion, though. it might be better to make the body a little longer, and use the posing to get that hunched-over look. His torso seems so short he wouldn't have much range of motion for stretching out to reach or jump or whatever.
Keep up the good work!

Looks great! The only thing that I am not sure about is that his butt looks very high up compared to his groin. Maybe monkeys are like that?
I agree that his torso could be a little longer.
I can't wait to see some fur on this guy!

Thanks Jim, I'll try to adjust his butt (I really don't know much about Monkey's butts) since it does look odd now that you mention it. I'll post a side and front wireframe next time to give you a better feel for the overall proportions...hair coming soon...

Actually they should all carry their own hats for ID .The model looks great Kevin I agree with the body comments, should be a little longer, and not so shapely its getting very real looking remember to keep the characature look.

Thanks Bob. I'll also try to make his body more angular/caricature-looking like Jim's sketch, I have a tendancy to smooth my organic models out too much ... I've been working on it but it keeps cropping back up. Are you still playing with hair color ideas?

The idea is to keep the oridginal film colors for audience Id purposes. That puts Woot in the colors of the lion so that puts the monkey in the lions colors as well, golds yellows browns etc.

Guess will have to change the topic title from "Green Monkey" to "Lion Monkey".

Kevin,
Fantastic! I think it's dead on.
One question though, are his forearms shaped like that to help control the fur shape? They do match my sketch showing the fur, but they're a little funny looking without the fur.

Cool, thanks Al and Bob, I'll make those changes tonight (and fix his forearms Jim, they were pretty weird looking - I gave him some popeye-like forearms that didn't quite fit)...

Dec 14 2005, 06:35 PM
Should I really make his hands that big? They can probably be a little bigger but I'm starting to think they will look HUGE compared to the rest of his body if I make them as big as Al's sketch.
JTalbotski
Dec 14 2005, 07:05 PM
Kevin,
I think they can be a little bigger than what they are at the moment. Scale them up to what you think looks good and then give us a look. They don't necessarily have to be the size Alain drew, because the green monkey shouldn't look very realistic.

As nice a s that tail looks you may want to keep it straight out so it can be figure 8 animated.

I think David is referring to the final scene (not sure it's still in the movie) where Mrs Yoop is turned into a green monkey so that Woot can be Wootie looking again.

Actually... it would be kind of funny to just use the exact same green monkey and stick that "bun" on its head in a dress... change his "look" through facial expressions and body language...
... or not...

Maybe I missed a change to the Script but in the story isn't there a problem with changing Green Monkey back to Woot because there always has to be a green monkey in Oz and right at the end, Ozma brings woot back having changed Mrs Yoop into Green Monkey?
