I would like to tackle the Wood chopping axe,
and possibly the Tinman's heart.

Are there design sketches I can take a look at?
agep
I did make this one that was on the sketch of the tinwoodsman. But thats not the wood chopping axe is it?

zandoriastudios
no, that his butt-whooping big axe!!!
NancyGormezano
Probably not up to woodchopping - but maybe could start from here: (just the axe - could put different textures on it, sharpen the blade)

I'd like to tackle the TinThrone - if you're looking for something gaudy & ornate ?

This is a picture of an axe I saw online. It is a 19th century French forester's axe. One side for chopping, the other end for marking the timber. I think this would look good for Nick Chopper.

Here's two sample styles of throne (picture them in shiny tin) - One froo-froo style, one more manly (Ivan the terrible's throne). I like the froo-froo (of course) - but whoa! might be taxing my skills a bit! I would probably tone it down a bit and make the motifs more fitting with OZ themes. Opinions?
KenH
I like the second one. More practical looking and similar to the one in the storyboard.
zandoriastudios
I like the first one more...but are we just dispensing with doing designs first?

Will - Are you talking to me?

I was trying to get an idea to see what style for the throne that you might have in mind - Elaborate versus simpler lines ? ... Did not know if you already had a design ... And also if you had some ideas for the throne room itself ? - thought it would be good to match the style of the room.

Speaking of which, I also did some browsing to get an idea of throne rooms - just gathering data - was not thinking I would be doing it, nor did I know how far you've gotten with the design. Just for my own education.

Truthfully - I'm not sure I'm up to the task of a complicated throne. So I'm really torn. (I tried noodling some just to get an idea of complexity - have included it - not happy with it).

So for what it's worth - & sorry if I'm jumping the gun, or overstepping (I can't help myself - I enjoy thinking up ideas - even if they're not used) - heres some reference photos for throne rooms - thought the idea of windows next to throne was nice - like the idea of mirrors, and steps leading to throne - like the curved ceilings, archways - However - I don't remember much of throne room showing in the animatic, just remember primarily the throne & platform.

I'm tired - need to give it a rest.

Are there design sketches for the axe? or the tinman's heart?
zandoriastudios
Nancy,
In the case of the throneroom, or any major set, I do feel that we should provide a sketch of how it should look and then art direct it towards that.
For background elements, I don't have as strong a concern, so modeling props, trees, etc. without any intervention is OK. If I see someone modeling something that I feel strongly should be designed first, then I will step in and ask them to wait...
So in this case, let's wait for the throne room.

There IS an approved sketch of King Bal's throne--an oversized papa-san chair that you can tackle smile.gif
NancyGormezano
Ok Will.

I shall discontinue my never-ending pursuit of Delusional Grandeur.

And thanks for the offer - but someone else should have the fun of doing the Big Baloney Chair.

(Whew! That's a relief. I've already converted my froo-froo attempt to something that perhaps should be delegated to some dark corner in an abandoned garden. I might post it in my Tin Follies thread..and you can reject it there laugh.gif )

Perhaps in time hence, people will say "Remember that lunatic who kept trying to play with us?"

It's so lonely being fringey. (Violins playing in background)
zandoriastudios
I'm sorry sad.gif

I didn't want to be put in the position of hurting people's feelings, and I questioned the wisdom of just letting everyone start modeling, because I feared that this is what would happen.
I don't think you are a lunatic at all! There may be some lunacy involved in this project , but I won't name names tongue.gif
NancyGormezano
How wise you are - but you obviously don't recognize lunacy...I went ahead because... well...that's what lunatics do:

I replied there, but will repeat: I really like it!
Can you add another level of embossed detail to the metalwork around the cushion with a bump or normal map? I'm not sure about the feathers across the top...

Thanks Will - I was also thinking that the metal work needed more detail (oh boy - MORE ungapotchki!) - will do, via a bump map .

And I definitely won't try & talk you into the feathers on top - I was just going for ridiculous, farsical..more fitting for Yoop, not for HRM TinWoody. laugh.gif

I do have another idea for the feathers tho ... which might work ...
NancyGormezano
Bump map added & Possible Use for feathers ? (or could be smaller and have the wagging tail of Toto the dog drive the fan action a la Looney Toonies ) ...

Disregard color scheme ... can always be changed when the throne room is designed.
MMZ_TimeLord
Don't know if the "Tree Stump for chopping wood on" was being worked on...

So here is my WIP for it. biggrin.gif

Some of the geometry is below the ground.

Comments, ideas, fixes are welcome.

Yes, this means you O-Mighty art directors... tongue.gif
Eric2575
Wow, Nancy!

Very nice work on the throne. You rock, you lunatic wink.gif

Hope everything will work out for you and your mum.

Okay I took a shot at the split and unsplit cut wood.

All these pieces are in their own model file. Each piece has a bone in it and can be piled/stacked however you wish in an action or choreography action (as I did here).

I was also thinking I may separate the split pieces from the unsplit pieces. i.e.- two models... split wood and unsplit wood. That way you could add more than one instance of each model to get the amount of wood you needed.

You can also put pieces below ground level so they do not show up.

Let me know if the seperation is a good idea and what more variety I can add.
(Twigs, More pieces with branch nubs, etc.)

(I can already see I need another model with some half logs (split just once).
KenH
Yes for things like this, instances do a very good job. You only have to texture them once and they can be duplicated as many times as you need....even altered using muscle mode in the chor.
They look great. I was going to do them. I'm glad I don't have to now. Could you do one with a split in it....like you have in the trunk.

Well done please send

MMZ_TimeLord
Bob, I've got a few more touch ups to do on these.

Didn't get the 'split' in some of them that Ken requested.

But here's another teaser for you... There are only three models in these movies.

They are groups of 'unsplit wood', 'split wood - half' and 'split wood -quarter'.

I'll do a little more and send them to you for placing in the SVN Bob.

biggrin.gif
MMZ_TimeLord
Bob,

Got the splits in the wood as well as touched up some other things on the models and bones.

I'll e-mail the models to you.
Paul Forwood
Jody, I just want to say how much I like all of these models that you are churning out in these TWO threads. Great stuff!
MMZ_TimeLord
Thank you very much paul.
