I think Jim Talbot is the master modeler and he has some good tutorials - not perhaps on modeling but he has a really good face you can do some "cheating" with. Here is a link about it:

A little cheat of Michael Jacksonīs head - the outside only...
I am not so good on modeling... hope someone other can do it...
And I do not really believe in modeling realistic - it will always be some puppet feeling over 3D models - so better hold on to that puppet feeling - more or less.
I believe more in doing things as simple as possible - some Talking Pens are my way:
