Full Version: Motion Tracking Anyone? =^.^=

I've spent a couple hours tracking the motion a of a video clip so I could steady it manually (using a seperate compositing software):

-pick a spot in the video to track
-run the tracker
-use the keyframe path created to see where the path needs to be smoothed out in order to guide me in setting keyframes for offsetting and scaling the footage.
-end result looks pretty good for doing it manually.

I know I can set up a simple, flat model, past a movie as a decal onto it and use that as a layer in compositing within A:M, using an isometric camera.
Thus I can use A:M to manually track motion of footage.

What I'm wondering is if someone wouldn't mind writing a plugin for A:M which automates the process of tracking a target detail area of live action footage. Then the plugin could generate a dynamic path which updates each time the tracking function is run.

If anyone is interested, please say so. In that case I'll go into more detail regarding how this thing should function.

Correct. Syntheyes is the tracking program for the budget-conscious.

I merely muse that it might be nice to have an auto-tracker function in Hash A:M since it seems quite handy as a lightweight compositing software.

Just a thought, in case someone is looking to create a plugin for A:M.

I didn't really understand your inquiry but thought I should mention the tools available thru 2D3 (http://www.2d3.com/jsp/index.jsp)

Sure, they are the makers of the very expensive BouJou, but they also have, and are making some INCREDIBLE other tools. One in particular I have played with and been amazed by is STEADYMOVE http://www.2d3.com/jsp/products/product-ov....jsp?product=11

It does a remarkable job of smoothing-out bumpy footage, I tried it on some VHS-C footage I shot on vacation and what went in quite bumpy, walking and shooting, came out looking like it was shot on a dolly. AND it works right within AfterEffects.

John,
Is it better than the built in Motion tracker (set for stabilization) in AE?

EDIT: this plugin is (ouch) $499.

Well now, I can do auto tracking in my copy of Combustion, thus a limited ability to auto-stabylize a shot or track an image to a surface.

Full license of Combustion = $1000
Upgrade of Combustion = $200

Upgrade of Hash A:M = $100

Being able to use A:M most of the time, even as a compositor = Priceless smile.gif
