I'd like to get links in one place for Cloth Tutorials ...... Pre & Post v12beta
So when you Post, ........ Specify what Version (v11 -or- v12beta)

316 Cloth T-Shirt Project
by Bjorn Cole Category: Project Files 20 March 2002
This is a cloth T-Shirt project to go along with some of the ideas discussed in Bjorn's Cloth tutorial in the Dynamics section entitled "The Cloth Wizard and You."

Yeah, I killed that one when I ultimately gave up on Old Cloth.
Hoping to play with New Cloth in the not-too-distant future, though.
May 16 2005, 09:29 AM
Thanks for getting this started Mike.
We definitely need to get JohnL3D's cloth projects linked in here.
Here's a link to the current discussons on SimCloth:v12 Beta SimCloth Forum Area
*Ooops. I see you linked that already.
May 16 2005, 10:55 AM
If you do still have it, I would sure like to take a look at it.
Could you possibly repost it?
May 16 2005, 11:30 AM
Mike - I'll have to have a look, but certainly if I have it.
Acutally, now that I know about that how substep problem, I may even have to try a re-run to see if I can make it work....

Hope on someone WINKing on clothes!

I'm really looking for the v11 version process.
I am doing Tests in "v11" & "v12 Beta", to see which method is most efficient.
Certainly v12 cloth is prettier, but the sim time is a factor.
Here is a "Shirt" Test I did on "Manny" the manequin in v12Beta (check it out on the v12Beta Cloth Pinned Topic ..... just used the settings Will suggested in Torus Cloth)
The file is called: "mannyTest_B_move.mov"
I like Betty too!http://www.hash.com/imagecontest/JUNEGallery/JUNEWinners.asp

Had a look on your Betty - nice!
I had a look on your site - I liked this one - telling a story - with still images - music:http://www.3d-simulation.com/mov/fear320s3.mov
Having some cloth would be nice - takes time to render - to me lipsync is the way to tell stories - with cloth - adding a bit to the emotions - perhaps you have some good links using the timeline in the Choreography - I believe you have showed a way with your animation Fear... but how to set it up - trying to animate - the characters - not using still images - that would be hard - or do you know how to organize the timeline in the best way - using Actions? or not Actions? only Relationships? And adding clothes to it... it will be pretty hard work?
I believe - you missed to link!
May 17 2005, 06:26 AM
Mike - I think I ended up trashing my T-shirt project in disgust.
Sim time is a factor for the new Cloth - but my limited purusing of the movies of the new stuff seems to me that I've mainly missed out on two points:
1) My meshes were always too light. I think a fairly dense(probably 4 patches to each patch they are meant to lay on) mesh is probably required to get good collisions.
2) I needed to play with interpolation steps more - this new cloth will automatically subdivide time to keep the cloth on the correct side of the mesh.
These two things led me to believe that properly done v11 cloth will take a long time as well. I'm doing a couple of small experiments with a couple of other test files I built back in the day - I'll let you know how those turn out.
Here's a copy of my test file - very clean, no cloth applied yet. Note the super-density of the dress - feel free to lighten it as you experiment with finding a critical density.

Hmm, for some reason, I can't get the attach to work ATM. Let me try again in a few.
May 17 2005, 07:29 AM
If you need a shirt, let me know & I'll send you Manny's Shirt off his back!
(don't go to the Trouble of making a New one)
............ & maybe Manny too!
Did you ever find a solution for Cloth Collisions in v11?
ALSO, Have you checked out "Manny Loses his Pants" on the "v12 Beta SimCloth Forum Area"?
( I used PolygonModifiers & Cloth Wizard)
May 17 2005, 07:42 AM
Yep, I'd love to get some Cloth & Movement on those Characters, along with Lipsinc.
As far as how to set this all up, I'd have to figure that out if I am ever able to get back to that project.
Don't really have any preconceived ideas on "how to organize the timeline in the best way"
I'd say subtlety of movement in Cloth motion would fit this case, along with slow fades in lighting, etc.

Here are two projects I had set up, but my poor computer if having trouble chugging through. The first here is the one that is most likely to work - I get through about 2:00 of simulation and then the comp seems to run out of RAM or something because it more or less gives up.
May 18 2005, 04:50 AM
Here is the second, with a much denser cloth mesh.
I'm guessing that higher densities have a higher change of success (once the collision radius is set appropriately).
Sorry for taking so long to upload - I had tried running the projects both during the day whilst at work and last night. Both hung up, although the lighter one almost made it as described earlier.
My specs are 1.4 GHz proc and 512 MB Ram. If you can beat these, you will likely succeed with the first file.

Too dense? Your computer is on fire?
I do not see any project!

some Cloth settings.
Special Thanks to Will Pickering & David Higgins!
My "Manny" Settings on the end refer to a Movie Post that will follow.
May 18 2005, 01:21 PM
I'll try running the First Project in just a bit!
BTW: your second Posted Project did not show up in your Post!

Sorry, just realized the .prj was over a meg. That's the prob.
May 18 2005, 05:02 PM
THanks for the 2nd Project file .........
Are these set up for "v11" or "v12Beta"??
(first one appeared like an older version file)
I did get the 1st file to Render in v12Beta.
It did really chug down to a crawl on the end.
It was because the cloth really whacked out.
I'll post the MOV in a bit.
I tried a second render too, but the AVI will not open in Quicktime!
May 18 2005, 06:24 PM
Looks like the PolygonModifier did not work out on this.
Here is Bjorns Movie from his Project file.
I cut it short because the cloth flies everywhere in the end.
May 18 2005, 06:30 PM
I have a feeling the issue is that it is better to let the cloth settle on the body rather than let the cloth settle then scale the body back up (I think because each frame the body scales up adds an additional force on the cloth.)
May 18 2005, 07:12 PM
Huh, well, that was meant for v11 cloth, but interesting reaction nonetheless....
Edit: The scaling may also cause the body to slip past the cloth and cause a super-force to drive it back outside.
May 18 2005, 07:29 PM
OK I thought it looked like a v11 setup, but wanted to try v12Beta.
Here is the file for Beta:
One thindg about the Simulation, if you save the file after simulation it is enormous! so try to avoid that.
WHen I get time I'll run the orignal file with Cloth Wizard in v11!
May 18 2005, 07:32 PM
Be sure if you post something to Specify "v11" or "v12 Beta"...........
or done with "Cloth Wizard" or "PolygonModifier"
May 20 2005, 06:09 AM
I just Posted a new Topic on the “v12Beta” forum:
