Full Version: Wink Tutorial #2
Hash, Inc. Forums > Technical Direction and Development (Learning Animation:Master) > A:M Tutorials and Demonstrations > Modeling
Paul Forwood
This tutorial covers modelling a sphere and then adding a capped hole to the surface. It is aimed at new A:M users who have previously viewed the 'Porthole' tutorial.

Edit :

Yikes, sorry folks!
I just noticed that I have made a big eror in this tutorial! ohmy.gif

Where I have said to use Ctrl/A it should be just 'A'

Nice modeling tutorial Paul! Lots of gems in that one.

Thanks. Ken. smile.gif
I had to cut out alot of frames to get it down to the 1Mb restriction.

It would be nice if we could cover everything with these compact Wink tutorials. I know that they would have saved me months of frustration when I first started with A:M. For the moment though I'll be happy to just cover some of the basics. I prefer the big Tech Talk Tutorials that Hash have put out but these are handy, bite-sized tutorials.

Thanks for checking them out! smile.gif

Paul that was great! That is exactly what I mean about putting down the steps. Heck I thought I knew that stuff but you cleared up a couple things for me. Appreciate it very much.

Wow, I love these new WINKS, (too bad it's not available for Mac's)
Very good job on this one too.
Ive seen tuts on this before and I always have the same problem tho...
The 4th 5 point patch will not select ! ie, become available
as a 5 point patch. I have toyed with the normals to no avail, but the 4th one is always just stubborn.
What am I doing wrong here ?
thanx

Be sure to release the shift key when you close the spline ring. If you close a spline ring with the shift key pressed the ring will not be properly closed. Instead of one cp at that point you will have two.

You can open and close the end point again by selecting it, pressing Shift/K, to disconnect it, and then closing it again by selecting it again with the left mouse button and, while still holding down the left mouse button, right click on the cp. I hope that you can make sense of that! smile.gif

I know it is a real pain at times! I spent about a half an hour last night trying to close a 5-point patch. dry.gif

Is that a fact? I haven't used a Mac for several years and am a bit out of touch but I thought these Wink files would run on a Mac. Okay, you would need a two/three button mouse and you would need to replace the 'Ctrl' key with the Cloverleaf key, or whatever it's called, but SWF files must surely run on Macs, don't they?
