This is a tutorial of a different color... Toon coloring that is.

It also is presented in a little different format than most, i.e. there is no A:M screen to be found. In hindsight I should have created a lighter background for better printing of the PDF version. The experimenting continues...

This is a reauthoring of a previous text and image only tutorial by the very toon talented Gilles Charbonneau!

We had talked at length about his text-based tutorial and I hope he will approve of my adaptation.

A good tutorial I think! though I miss the A:M screen in some parts - too me one part of people not understanding how to do things in A:M is that they can not find where to click, where to do the things.

To find something it is easier then you see the menu in its surroundings - not a cut out menu - one of the good things with WINK is that it is so easy to do Screen Captures - showing the menus in their surroundings. For sure that is not needed all the time - sometimes it can be better with more text and a cut-outed menu.

I am curious about how this tutorial is done. Is it done in some image editing program? The text also? And then copied-and-pasted into WINK? Or have you done something with the XML-file in WINK for the text, because I havenīt seen this alternative in WINK - text without borders and without a background or perhaps I have just missed it?

It is a NEXT-button missing - and the NEXT and PREVOUS buttons are easy to miss in WINK - I usually myself clicks fast through the tutorial to see how many buttons I have missed... always one... Just a tips!

But this is a new way of using WINK - with its pros and cons - and I hope it will be a little more explained.

The PDF I am also missing...

I think I'll have to rerender the tutorial so that a printable PDF file is created with a white background. I don't want to have people waste ink now do I? wink.gif

Concerning the A:M Screen... This tutorial only scratches the surface of Toon Rendering... Each of the areas can be explored more thoroughly in the 1000s more tutorials to come. smile.gif

With your favorite tutorial program gaining hyperlinking abilities in v2.0 this tutorial could almost be considered a menu.

*I do see the missing NEXT button. Until I get this fixed everyone will have to use the slider at the bottom. Apologies!

Hello all

Great job with the tut Rodney.

Seven, this was done in 1999 with v7.1. Toon render was brand new and was the most fun I had for quite a time at the time!

Thanks Gilles.
...and thank you for the original tutorial! smile.gif

For many your tutorial is the classic introduction to toon rendering in A:M.
We can do more with toon settings in current versions but the old methods are just as tried and true.

I must confess though that I haven't looked in the direction of toon rendering in far too long. I'll have to remedy that this year.

Hello again!

Now that makes me feel younger(turning 45 next week) smile.gif

I have sent an inquiry for v15 upgrade, will have a look at toon and intend to do some personal work in A:M, have a short in mind. Like I did in the past, will probablly do some new tutorials in the process of learning it all, again. Toon might be one of them!

More than a few of you old timers* (hehe) are dusting off the cobwebs these days.
You can't let all these younguns have all the fun you know. Show 'em what splines are made of! smile.gif

Toon or otherwise, I'll look forward to hearing more about your project.

*I am much much much younger than you. ahem.

Last I checked we we're about the same age but I was much better looking wink.gif

eah, been working with XSI for years at work, I need to go to the basics of Animation, which is having fun. Looking at the Two movies on Youtube at the moment, I like what I see.

I am looking for the best way to create that short of mine, 2D and 3D ways, A:M is one of the contenders so far.
