Building characters for a short movie based in a desert. Tryin out new skin materials, it's turning out well so far.

Tysiphone (left) needs her weapon modeled, re-do her gloves and maybe the hair too.
Kane (right) is pretty much done modeling-wise. Just need to rig. He might get a big red torn up cape if I can get it to look good. (like Tetsuo had in Akira)
I'll post more pics as work gets done.

Kricket,
I must say.... You've found a style that really hides it's 3DCG origins. I like!
It looks like you used photoshop to create it in 2D. Impressive.
I'm looking forward to seeing this animated!
I see you've been updating your site as well.

Thanks! It's straight out of the renderer. I put a bloom post-effect on the camera tho.

That's exactly what I was going for

I always see photoshopped line work with nice shading/coloring and wanted to emulate that in 3D.

Wow very impressive.
You should be able to get a job in the Anime-industry, if you not already have?

Great models, I am waiting to see them in action.
I have few quetions:
1. Is this toon rendering? If it is, it doesn't look that way to me.
2. What is the light setup for the scene? very desert like!

One more thing! Thank you for your tutorials, they are the best thing since sliced bread!

Great characters. Any reason why Tysiphone is standing on her toes?

Except that they seem like they are going to burn horribly with there light skin, they are awesome looking. I love your style.

Yes, it's toon rendered. Was trying to emulate this kind of skin -
http://gallery.wonkothesane.com/gallery/shirow?page=3 (Shirow is the MAN)
The desert was pretty easy to setup, it's a grid with a crumple material applied to it. There's a white sun-light coming down (with shadows) and off to the side is a red area light (no shadows) The red light catches the crumple areas and just sets it nicely imo. The bloom post-effect on the camera also helps a ton.

She defaults to being on her toes, the rotoscope I use to model her is setup that way. She can rest her feet on her heels, but she's in a fighting-stance and I think she looks more agile this way.

Yea, at the beginning of the animation as they walk through the desert I planned to have them wear cloaks to protect themselves from the sun. Taken off before fighting of course

Work has been slow

Hope to update more often.

Kayne - fully rigged. yay!
Tys - slightly modified hairdo, went through several gloves and settled on these. Needs facial rig, weapons.
Skullbot - Mostly done, just need to model a skull to replace the head. Then rig.
The 2 heroes come across a desert outpost where all the repair mecha have gone mad. They've been killing everyone they meet and donning their skulls.

From there many 12-packs of whoop-ass shall be opened.

Nicely done. You obviously have a story in mind for them. Do I smell a short? Also, how is the ground done....just roughness?

It's really coming along. Lol, I saw the big rock ball on that robot's herad before reading your post and thought, "Boy, I hope that isn't what he's going for there..."
It's coming along great.

Seems very interesting. Shirrow Rocks it's true, he (or his influence) is pushing the Japanese CG industry which has predominately sucked until recently. Looking forward to seening this when it's done

*applause* Very nice!

They are really nicely and smoothly detailed. Very interesting characters you got there! *thumbs up* It would be interesting to see these characters in action!
Just one thing was bothering me: Perhaps it's the angle, but the female character's breasts seem a little... too flat? Maybe it's me, but they look a little like paper flat. It could be just the angle though.

Besides that, I really like her look, so please continue the good work when you can!
