Very good Den!
I think very shortly we'll have to add the instructions to do the same exercise with v12 cloth. It will be a good way to test the differences of the two technologies.

One more to go...eeekk! I'm working on your certificate now so whatever you do... don't quit!!!

To Chris Wheeler:
I hope your movies are still on your site because I'm gonna grab 'em!
I suspect you have a lot more like these posted here but I haven't been able to see them until now.
Beautiful stuff!

I take it this is the new A:M Simcloth. Nice!
I need to do this exercise with the new cloth myself.

Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement:
I added a bone to the flag model and selected all the pole control points for that bone. Then in choreography, I chose the flag and added a new constraint of rigid body.
When the cloth was simulated it bounced off the pole! Exactly what I wanted it to do!
Only two more to go for certification... YAY!

Nice John. I like the adding of the airplane. My only crit would have been to add some rotation to the propeller and when the plane goes by the flag, have it react to the air current that would displace the flag.
Over all good job,
Keep it up your almost done.

it was pretty easy...i put shaggy in the pose holding the flag and rendered it out
i went into photoshop and made a selection around him and in channels i save the selection.
so now all i got is shaggy and a alpha channel..... saved as a targa 32 bit
in A.M. i made a flag ( 2 control points and extrude a few times )
when added a decal and applied it ....( in the decal settings where it's states as a COLOR as default i changed it to cookie cutter ) ......
i seen a tute on Cookie cutters a few months back ....
hope that helps ....
i might redo it ( my starting idea was the wind to be faster lol )

Exercise 18: Waving The Flag (Cloth)
John Bailey
September 4, 2006
I finally got that Jolly Roger flying. I used simcloth (Shear stiffness 55, Air drag 0, Bend Angle damping 0, Shear/Stretch damping 0) with a Force (width 60cm, Fall off 200cm, and a magnitude of 300%). I wanted to see the whole flag stand out almost straight and all of these parameters finally gave me four of them after much experimentation.
I had to use constraints on Shaggy. I'll play around some more with grouping. I'm really interested in that concept.

You're absolutely right, Elliot - I posted too late, difficult to get the angles when using the background as a flat rotoscope, had eyes closed - there are 100 excuses, but there's no real excuse.
When I showed my son, he said exactly the same thing

, and that I should always go through him first
before I post. Lesson learned.
