Hi everyone,

Can someone give me a quick Tut on the use of Auto Assign w/ BVH? I've followed the Zandoria tutorial but there must be a better and faster way.

Have a ton of BVH's to share.

Thx.

better and faster? It only took me all of an hour to get it figured out. Thats about as fast as it comes with rigging and animation.

Auto-assign only assigns CPs to bones, as an aid to skinning your character. Zandoria's tute is currently the best way to use BVH, but pose-assign no longer works as he described. For a method of re-using BVH files with the same naming conventions, check my post here or wait for my video tutorial which I'll be making... someday.

Here's my take-

I created an action in which I imported the bvh and constrained the skeleton. Now when I want to load a new bvh I rename that action; import a second bvh file in the same action; select the first bvh, that the character is currently constrained to; Under properties I choose the new bvh from the drop down list; POP- my charater moves to, and is constrained to the second bvh file. I usually find it necessary to rescale the new bvh to better fit my skeleton.

Ben and Zach...those are BOTH good appraoches. I'll try them, as I've been just rerigging each time and it would be nice just be able to try any old BVH without jumping thru that hoop!

Thanks fellas. Will try

Oooohhhh... good idea, Ben!

Well Ben...sounds good in theory... but here's how it goes for me.

Here's MY take-

Now when I want to load a new bvh I rename that action; import a second bvh file in the same action; select the first bvh, that the character is currently constrained to; Under properties I choose the new bvh from the drop down list; POP! A:M Crashes.

OK. If at first you don't suceed...try, try...to blame someone else!

I was able to get Ben's method to work...with some variations.

I opened the action that previously had my character constrained to the BVH.
I opened the BVH info under 'action objects'.
Deleted all the keyframes from the previous BVH.
Right clicked on the file, and chose 'capture sequence'...
The new action took over, I resized the skeleton to my character. Save As...

Thanks Ben!

Hmm...well I'm glad you got a method workin'. It never crashed me but I did discover after quite a bit of frustration this morning that I have to be on frame zero for it to work.

for the record.. this is what I did with all of my animations. It was the only way I could get something close to reusable.

I havnt had to resize or scale anything so far. If the two bvh files are the same.. I just don't delete the first keyframe.. The one on which I applied all of the constraints and scales. Then start the capture at frame 2.. .. when you render.. just allways render from frame 2 on out. Seems to work fine.

That's a good idea, Colin. I have been deleting frame 1, and resizing...don't need to.

HEY JULIAN... How's it working? Did you mention earlier you had a "ton" of BVH's to share? We are interested........

Have 65 megs of BVH's to fttp to you. Please let me know where you would like it. Am stranded on dial-up (sigh) this weekend but can make available on Monday biggrin.gif

Haven't had a chance to suss out rigs yet. I am a former Poser user and miss the ease in which one could integrate 3D and BVH's. AM rules for pose-to-pose and I am looking forward to getting the Set Up Rig from Anzovin.

Best regards,

JG

YES! I'm out this weekend too...check back here next week and we'll arrange a transfer! Cool beans!
John Bigboote
Colin--- Where did you get the BVH for your character doing the silly posing? I have GOT to have that!!! If it's on free BVH .com please tell me what it's labelled...too silly!

Julian- I've emailled you off-list in inquiry...to your 65 meggs of BVH's.

It would be cool if Hash let us use their FTP site to make all these found BVH's easily available to those who aspire. For trading and storing, they could start it out by putting some of they're captured BVH's in it...
Sevenar
I'd love to get those BVH files as well... I'm a lousy animator!
Bighead
jgesq: I'm also interested in getting those files you mentioned.

So, where are they? (I mean, were they uploaded to ... where?) huh.gif
John Bigboote
BigHead- I can make them available to you via FTP...email me at matt@campbellanimation.com if still interested and I'll set it up.

If Hash is looking to fill disk-space on the new disc...maybe we could put some BVH's there...for folks to become familiarised with the wonder of using motion-capture files... I'll suggest this to Paul Daley.
Rodney
John,
If Julian's is able to share his BVH files I'm sure that the A:M Community would love to have them available via the Extra CD.

Julian are you interested and able?
Bighead
John: ok, the message is on its way ... regards. smile.gif

Wow, I'm real hungry for Bvh's if it's not too late?!

BUMP

Did anyone make any headway with this 65MB of BVH files?

Rodney
