I was thinking of adding this to my Anime Movie Collection, but have no idea if it's good. Anyone seen it who can give a quick summary and a review? Please? All I know is that it's during WWII. That's it. The reason I want it is because it's been getting awards and good reviews all over.

I rented the DVD several months ago. It's unlike any other anime I'm familiar with. Not really a "war" movie, it's "after the war" and all the misery that involves. There's almost no military action in it. An extremely low-key movie.

Very good artwork, and the character animation is more effective than most animes. I enjoyed it.

That is one sad story. It is relentless in its progress toward the final tragedy. Very sad.

yep, its good but i recommend watching it in Japanese with subtitles because IMO i find it rather 'ironic' with English voices mainly due to the situation the film is in.

Definitely good stuff. Highly recommended.

I think I'd understand it a lot better.

I haven't seen it with subtitles either so... I'm sure that would help too.

I have had this live action telemovie for a while now, i have only watched the first, say, ten minutes..looks really good even though the dvd has no English subtitles..

It begins completely different (begins in present time) but if you like Japanese doramas, especially humane and touching doramas, i think this should be on you watch list.
