This isn't anime per se... but I've long been inspired by anime and those styles and themes reoccur often in my art (doodles if you prefer).

Last night as Wednesday Night Chat was winding down I decided to model a 10 minute man (i.e. model a character as quickly as I could) a couple of hours later... I had changed him into a character I drew many years ago. He's about 50ft tall and there is (or at least was) an army of robots just like him.*

I'm sure others have anime (and manga) inspired characters they are itching to transform into 3D too.

If anyone wants to post their work here maybe we can keep the inspireation going.
Anyone game?

*This character fits into the "My Robot Movie" continuity so I may update my WIP too!

And while this guy doesn't look too much like the japanese character that inspired him he was one of my first attempts at toon rendering in A:M.

He was more of a test to see how hard it might be to bring Shirato Sampei's characters to life. For those that aren't familar he created such characters as Sasuke and Kamui Den among others. While the later stories of Kamui became a lot more realistic in drawing style (and mature content) the early ones I always thought would be perfect for translation into 3D.

My friends artwork is heavily influenced both by Western Comics and Anime/Manga, I'm currently working on bringing his characters to life in 3D.

Very nice Kricket! I've seen some of your work in that style but I don't remember that one.

Always nice to have talented friends. If they have similar interests... even better! smile.gif

Wow - nice model.

Would love to see a closeup on the head with wireframe to see how you modelled the eyes etc.

Cheers

A project that I was working on got canned (seems nobody had the money to fund it) but there was a lot of preliminary work done, so I can share some of it here. Our anime was to be based off of a comic book called Luftwaffe 1946: Families of Altered Wars. It was an alternate history take on WWII where the nazis didn't lose and continued developing some of the crazy aviation projects that they had in the works (jets and other oddities).

I've posted the big version of this pic (our lead character, Dora) and numerous other shots of the characters and aircraft at

A page full of images from the video

There are also a few videos of Dora in action linked from there.

Hope you enjoy them! I may someday adapt these characters into ones for a project that may even get finished.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys. I wish the show that the models were originally made for had been able to go into production. If I get the spare time someday I'll at least be able to reconfigure the character models for other purposes, though.

Luckbat, good work on that lip-sync and the hand gestures and such she makes during that animation sequence. Very smooth.

If they ever come up with a way for AM to do sharp, smooth color seperations on toon gradients, it would be perfect for anime... more stylized than the way its set up now. The shading can too easily look uneven/fuzzy, though it's still able to make for some nice imagery.

Hey I really like the mix he has of west/east there! That's a really original looking piece. The wires are great, I'm definitely going to sit down and take a good look at them for study purposes, thanks!
